A method to polarise antiprotons in storage rings and create polarised antineutrons
An intense circularely polarised photon beam interacts with a cooled
antiproton beam in a storage ring. Due to spin dependent absorption cross
sections for the reaction gamma+antiproton > pi- + antineutron a built-up of
polarisation of the stored antiprotons takes place. Figures-of-merit around 0.1
can be reached in principle over a wide range of antiproton energies. In this
process antineutrons with Polarisation > 70% emerge. The method is presented
for the case of 300 MeV/c cooled antiproton beam
Influence of doped-charge transport layers on the photovoltaic performance of donor-acceptor blend p-i-n type organic solar cells
This report demonstrates external power conversion efficiencies of 2% under 100 mW/cm2 simulated AM1.5 illumination for organic thin-film photovoltaic cells using a phthalocyanine-fullerene (ZnPc/C60) bulk heterojunction as an active layer, embedded into a p-i-n type architecture with doped wide-gap charge transport layers. For an optically optimized device, we found internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of above 80% under short circuit conditions. Such optically thin cells with high internal quantum efficiency are an important step towards high efficiency tandem cells. The p-i-n architecture allows for the design of solar cells with high internal quantum efficiency where only the photoactive region absorbs visible light and recombination losses at contacts are avoided. The I-V characteristics, power conversion efficiencies, the dependence of short circuit current on incident white light intensity, incident photon to collected electron efficiency (IPCE) and absorption spectra of the active layer system are discussed. KEY WORDS: Doped-charge transport layers, Organic solar cells, Photovoltaic cells,Phthalocyanine-fullerene  Bull. Higher moments of nucleon spin structure functions in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory and in a resonance model
The third moment of the twist-3 part of the nucleon spin structure
function is generalized to arbitrary momentum transfer and is
evaluated in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT) up to order
and in a unitary isobar model (MAID). We show how to link
as well as higher moments of the nucleon spin structure functions
and to nucleon spin polarizabilities. We compare our results with the
most recent experimental data, and find a good description of these available
data within the unitary isobar model. We proceed to extract the twist-4 matrix
element which appears in the suppressed term in the twist
expansion of the spin structure function for proton and neutron.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figure
The GDH Sum Rule and Related Integrals
The spin structure of the nucleon resonance region is analyzed on the basis
of our phenomenological model MAID. Predictions are given for the
Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule as well as generalized integrals over spin
structure functions. The dependence of these integrals on momentum transfer is
studied and rigorous relationships between various definitions of generalized
Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn integrals and spin polarizabilities are derived. These
results are compared to the predictions of chiral perturbation theory and
phenomenological models.Comment: 15 pages LaTeX including 5 figure
Total Value of Phosphorus Recovery
Phosphorus (P) is a critical, geographically concentrated, nonrenewable resource necessary to support global food production. In excess (e.g., due to runoff or wastewater discharges), P is also a primary cause of eutrophication. To reconcile the simultaneous shortage and overabundance of P, lost P flows must be recovered and reused, alongside improvements in P-use efficiency. While this motivation is increasingly being recognized, little P recovery is practiced today, as recovered P generally cannot compete with the relatively low cost of mined P. Therefore, P is often captured to prevent its release into the environment without beneficial recovery and reuse. However, additional incentives for P recovery emerge when accounting for the total value of P recovery. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the range of benefits of recovering P from waste streams, i.e., the total value of recovering P. This approach accounts for P products, as well as other assets that are associated with P and can be recovered in parallel, such as energy, nitrogen, metals and minerals, and water. Additionally, P recovery provides valuable services to society and the environment by protecting and improving environmental quality, enhancing efficiency of waste treatment facilities, and improving food security and social equity. The needs to make P recovery a reality are also discussed, including business models, bottlenecks, and policy and education strategies
Real and Virtual Compton Scattering: the nucleon polarisabilities
We give an overview of low-energy Compton scattering (gamma^(*) p --> gamma
p) with a real or virtual incoming photon. These processes allow the
investigation of one of the fundamental properties of the nucleon, i.e. how its
internal structure deforms under an applied static electromagnetic field. Our
knowledge of nucleon polarisabilities and their generalization to non-zero
four-momentum transfer will be reviewed, including the presently ongoing
experiments and future perspectives.Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures. Minireview/Proceedings of "Many-Body Structure

Measurement of the LT-asymmetry in \pi^0 electroproduction at the energy of the \Delta (1232) resonance
The reaction p(e,e'p)pi^0 has been studied at Q^2=0.2 (GeV/c)^2 in the region
of W=1232 MeV. From measurements left and right of q, cross section asymmetries
\rho_LT have been obtained in forward kinematics \rho_LT(\theta_\pi^0=20deg) =
(-11.68 +/- 2.36_stat +/- 2.36_sys)$ and backward kinematics
\rho_LT(\theta_\pi^0=160deg) =(12.18 +/- 0.27_stat +/- 0.82_sys). Multipole
ratios \Re(S_1+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 and \Re(S_0+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 were determined
in the framework of the MAID2003 model. The results are in agreement with older
data. The unusally strong negative \Re(S_0+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 required to bring
also the result of Kalleicher et al. in accordance with the rest of the data is
almost excluded.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables. Changed content. Accepted for

Photo-production of Nucleon Resonances and Nucleon Spin Structure Function in the Resonance Region
The photo-production of nucleon resonances is calculated based on a chiral
constituent quark model including both relativistic corrections H{rel} and
two-body exchange currents, and it is shown that these effects play an
important role. We also calculate the first moment of the nucleon spin
structure function g1 (x,Q^2) in the resonance region, and obtain a
sign-changing point around Q^2 ~ 0.27 {GeV}^2 for the proton.Comment: 23 pages, 5 figure
A measurement of the axial form factor of the nucleon by the p(e,e'pi+)n reaction at W=1125 MeV
The reaction p(e,e'pi+)n was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI at an
invariant mass of W=1125 MeV and four-momentum transfers of Q^2=0.117, 0.195
and 0.273 (GeV/c)^2. For each value of Q^2, a Rosenbluth separation of the
transverse and longitudinal cross sections was performed. An effective
Lagrangian model was used to extract the `axial mass' from experimental data.
We find a value of M_A=(1.077+-0.039) GeV which is (0.051+-0.044) GeV larger
than the axial mass known from neutrino scattering experiments. This is
consistent with recent calculations in chiral perturbation theory.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, uses elsart.cl
Magnetic dipole moment of the (1232) from the reaction
The reaction in the -resonance
region is investigated as a method to access the magnetic
dipole moment. The calculations are performed within the context of an
effective Lagrangian model containing both the -resonant mechanism and
a background of non-resonant contributions to the
reaction. Results are shown both for existing and forthcoming experiments. In particular, the sensitivity of unpolarized
cross sections and photon asymmetries to the magnetic dipole moment
is displayed for those forthcoming data.Comment: 25 pages, 11 figure
