    Red Dragon: A Redshift-Evolving Gaussian Mixture Model for Galaxies

    Precision-era optical cluster cosmology calls for a precise definition of the red sequence (RS), consistent across redshift. To this end, we present the Red Dragon algorithm: an error-corrected multivariate Gaussian mixture model (GMM). Simultaneous use of multiple colors and smooth evolution of GMM parameters result in a continuous RS and blue cloud (BC) characterization across redshift, avoiding the discontinuities of red fraction inherent in swapping RS selection colors. Based on a mid-redshift spectroscopic sample of SDSS galaxies, a RS defined by Red Dragon selects quenched galaxies (low specific star formation rate) with a balanced accuracy of over 90%. This approach to galaxy population assignment gives more natural separations between RS and BC galaxies than hard cuts in color--magnitude or color--color spaces.     Feedback control architecture & the bacterial chemotaxis network

    Bacteria move towards favourable and away from toxic environments by changing their swimming pattern. This response is regulated by the chemotaxis signalling pathway, which has an important feature: it uses feedback to ‘reset’ (adapt) the bacterial sensing ability, which allows the bacteria to sense a range of background environmental changes. The role of this feedback has been studied extensively in the simple chemotaxis pathway of Escherichia coli. However it has been recently found that the majority of bacteria have multiple chemotaxis homologues of the E. coli proteins, resulting in more complex pathways. In this paper we investigate the configuration and role of feedback in Rhodobacter sphaeroides, a bacterium containing multiple homologues of the chemotaxis proteins found in E. coli. Multiple proteins could produce different possible feedback configurations, each having different chemotactic performance qualities and levels of robustness to variations and uncertainties in biological parameters and to intracellular noise. We develop four models corresponding to different feedback configurations. Using a series of carefully designed experiments we discriminate between these models and invalidate three of them. When these models are examined in terms of robustness to noise and parametric uncertainties, we find that the non-invalidated model is superior to the others. Moreover, it has a ‘cascade control’ feedback architecture which is used extensively in engineering to improve system performance, including robustness. Given that the majority of bacteria are known to have multiple chemotaxis pathways, in this paper we show that some feedback architectures allow them to have better performance than others. In particular, cascade control may be an important feature in achieving robust functionality in more complex signalling pathways and in improving their performance

    We derive sufficient conditions for an atomic measure ∑λ∈Λmλ δλ,\sum_{\lambda \in \Lambda} m_\lambda\, \delta_\lambda, where Λ⊂Rn,\Lambda \subset \mathbb R^n, mλm_\lambda are positive integers, and δλ\delta_\lambda is the point measure at λ,\lambda, to be a Fourier quasicrystal, and suggest why they may also be necessary. These conditions extend the necessary and sufficient conditions derived by Lev, Olevskii, and Ulanovskii for n=1.n = 1. Our methods exploit the toric geometry relation between Grothendieck residues and Newton polytopes derived by Gelfond and Khovanskii.Comment: 17 page

    Doubt continues to linger over the reality of quantum vacuum energy. There is some question whether fluctuating fields gravitate at all, or do so anomalously. Here we show that for the simple case of parallel conducting plates, the associated Casimir energy gravitates just as required by the equivalence principle, and that therefore the inertial and gravitational masses of a system possessing Casimir energy EcE_c are both Ec/c2E_c/c^2. This simple result disproves recent claims in the literature.     The problem in this study came from the interim results of observation carried out by researchers in the field. Researchers found the problem is the lack of durability that is owned by the football team SMKN 5 Pekanbaru. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect on the endurance circuit training on the football team SMKN 5 Pekanbaru. The study used the approach of one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study is a soccer player who SMKN Pekanbaru 5 of 16 people by using total sampling where all population sampled, to obtain research data using preliminary tests pretest and post-test after it was given a circuit workout. Diproleh The data were analyzed using t-test. Based on data analysis found that a circuit workout effect on durability on the football team SMKN 5 Pekanbaru, marked from the results diproleh namely 2,595 tcount > rtable 1,753. From the results obtainable circuit training effect on the durability of the soccer team SMKN 5 Pekanbaru

    Penatalaksanaan Fisioterapi Pada Kasus Tendinitis Bicipitalis Sinistra Di RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta

    Latar Belakang : Tendinitis bicipitalis merupakan peradangan atau iritasi akibat dari kompresi yang berulang pada otot tendon. Tendinitis bicipitalis merupakan reaksi terhadap adanya trauma akibat jatuh atau dipukul pada bahu, dengan lengan atas dalam posisi adduksi serta lengan bawah supinasi, dan tendinitis bicipitalis memberikan rasa nyeri pada bagian depan lengan. Permasalahan utama yaitu nyeri dan keterbatasan gerakan fleksi, abduksi, dan eksorotasi; adanya spasme otot pectoralis mayor; penurunan kekuatan grup otot fleksor, ekstensor, abduktor, adduktor, endorotator, dan eksorotator. Tujuan : Untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan fisioterapi dalam mengurangi nyeri dan spasme, meningkatkan kekuatan otot dan menambah lingkup gerak sendi bahu pada kasus tendinitis bicipitalis dengan menggunakan modalitas Micro Wave Diathermy (MWD), Ultra Sound (US), dan terapi latihan. Metode : Intervensi yang diberikan terdiri dari Micro Wave Diathermy (MWD) selama 10 menit, Ultra Sound (US) selama 6 menit, dan terapi latihan dengan melakukan gerakan-gerakan fungsional bahu yang setiap gerakan dilakukan 8x pengulangan. Hasil : Setelah dilakukan terapi selama 6 kali didapatkan hasil penilaian nyeri pada nyeri diam T1 : 2 menjadi T6 : 1, nyeri tekan T1 : 4 menjadi T6 : 2, nyeri gerak T1 : 2 menjadi T6 : 1; peningkatan kekuatan grup otot fleksor T1 : 4 menjadi T6 : 5, otot ekstensor T1 : 4 menjadi T6 : 5, otot abduktor T1 : 3 menjadi T6 : 5, otot adduktor T1 : 4 menjadi T6 : 5, otot eksorotator T1 : 3 menjadi T6 : 5, otot endorotator T1 : 4 menjadi T6 : 5; peningkatan LGS dari T1 gerak aktif bidang S=600-00-1500 , F=1200-00-600, dan R=900-00-90 menjadi T6 : S=600-00-1550 , F=1400-00-700 , dan R=900-00-900 dan pada T1 gerak pasif bidang S=600-00-1550 , F=1300-00-700 , dan R=900-00-900 menjadi T6 :S=600-00-1600 , F=1450-00-700 , dan R=900-00-900.
