Study of olivines from Omolon and Seymchan meteorites using X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy with a high velocity resolution

Study of olivine from Omolon and Seymchan meteorites was performed using X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy with a high velocity resolution. X-ray diffraction patterns were measured at room temperature while Mössbauer spectra were measured at 295 and 90 K. The orthorhombic crystal lattice parameters were evaluated for olivine from Omolon and Seymchan. These parameters appeared to be different for olivines from both meteorites. Mössbauer spectral components related to 57Fe in crystallographically non-equivalent sites M1 and M2 in both olivines were determined and its Mössbauer hyperfine parameters were evaluated. Some differences in the tendencies of temperature dependence of spectral parameters and small variations of 57Fe quadrupole splitting in both M1 and M2 sites of olivines from Omolon and Seymchan were found. On the basis of Mössbauer parameters and chemical data, the temperatures of equilibrium cation distribution were evaluated for both olivines. © 2012 American Institute of Physics

    Optimal polymer slugs injection curves

In the paper we study miscible injection of liquids with decreasing viscosity in two-dimensional geometry. Polymer flooding of oil fields is our prototype model. Based on several one-dimensional approximate models we give rigorous formulation of the graded viscosity banks (GVB) technology which helps to save polymer by injecting several slugs with gradual decrease of viscosity instead of one slug. Limiting injection curves when number of slugs tends to infinity is calculated

    Elastic properties of FeSi

Measurements of the sound velocities in a single crystal of FeSi were performed in the temperature range 4-300 K. Elastic constants C12C_{12} and C44C_{44} deviate from a quasiharmonic behavior at high temperature; whereas, C12C_{12} increases anomalously in the entire range of temperature, indicating a change in the electron structure of this materia

Historical Retrospective Review of Idea of University: Complementarily of Reason and Spirituality

    Get PDF
Background: In the paper the Idea of the University and its transformations throughout the history are analysed. The content of the Idea of the University was based on understanding of spirituality when the man is upcoming to enlightening. Religion, philosophy, and education get together, when spirituality is defined as the categories and personal characteristics of a human. According to philosophy, spirituality is a non-physical way of a human being, which was granted to him as the ability of self-education. Religion understands spirituality as invariant of enlightening. The scientific-methodical apparatus of education was created to realize the potential ways for raising a person to enlightening in secular or religious schools. The spiritual aura was constantly presented at the University. Methods: A general philosophical approach and comparative historical method were used in the research. Results: Understanding the role of spirituality in the University education was absolutely manifested. The University was based on the idea of going up from individual towards the Universal Truth and Absolute Spirit. Knowledge and Truth are ideological categories of the University. Truth contained the spirituality and rational knowledge in the unity. Conclusions: The University has not lost its Idea throughout the history. The basic conclusion of the paper is that its Idea as well as its essence is the change of its criteria in response to the new historical reality

Data Processing and Enrichment of LiDAR-Derived Traffic Data

    Get PDF
With the escalating demand for efficient traffic management and the increasing complexity of traffic control, diverse sensor technologies have been implemented to measure traffic in real-time. The road-side LiDAR emerges as a novel technology addressing the data gap in multimodal traffic analyses. LiDAR sensing return time to precisely capture distance and reflectivity, generating point cloud data encompassing all traffic trajectory information. It overcomes challenges posed by illumination conditions like light, dust and fog, which often affect camera sensor performance. In addition, LiDAR sensing minimises the effect of changing object position and angles, simplifying object detection and recognition. This paper tackles the challenges of analysing LiDAR-derived traffic data by proposing a method for traffic trajectory data enrichment. The methodology followed includes creating a semantic map, bridging the physical space and raw data, transforming from a local to a standard Coordinate Reference System (CRS) and enriching data trajectory representation. Three use cases are presented based on the dataset obtained after enrichment: object classification, permissible directions violation detection, and traffic flow density. The proposed method is validated using traffic data from a LiDAR system of 6 sensors located in one of the busiest intersections in Sofia, Bulgaria. The raw sensor data is processed by a fusion box called the Augmented LiDAR Box, delivering time series frames with labelled moving objects in .osef format. The results prove that the proposed data enrichment method successfully transforms the trajectories into semantic sequences, opening up new avenues for trajectory analysis and intersection traffic micro-modelling

Petroleum-related hydrocarbons in deep and subsurface sediments from South-Western Barents Sea

    Get PDF
Subsurface sediments from a pockmark area in South-Western Barents Sea have been earlier found to contain elevated levels of petroleum-related polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. This work describes a comprehensive analysis of various biomarkers, including the highly source-specific hopanes, in a 4.5 m long gravity core from the same area, together with subsurface sediment samples from other areas in the region without pockmarks present (“background samples”). A clear difference between the pockmark gravity core and the background sediment cores was found, both with regard to genesis and the level of transformation of organic matter. A number of indicator parameters, such as methylphenanthrene index (MPI-1), point towards a significantly higher maturity of hydrocarbons in the pockmark core throughout its length as compared to the other sampled locations. Higher contents of microbial hopanoids (hopenes) may indicate the former presence of petroleum. These findings confirm the hypothesis of a natural hydrocarbon source in the deeper strata present in the studied location with pockmarks
