    Sub-micron Junction Termination for 1200V Class Devices toward CMOS Process Compatibility

    Minute distance obtained from pulmonary venous flow velocity using transesophageal pulsed Doppler echocardiography is related to cardiac output during cardiovascular surgery

    Purpose. We studied the relationship between minute distance calculated from pulmonary venous flow (PVF) velocity tracing and cardiac output (CO)measured with thermodilution method in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Methods. In 32 patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery, simultaneous measurements of hemodynamics including CO and transesophageal pulsed Doppler signals of PVF velocity were performed before and after surgical repair. Minute distance was calculated as the product of the heart rate and the sum of time-velocity integrals of PVF. Results. The minute distance after surgical intervention increased from 1121 ± 347 cm・sec-1to 1764 ± 538 cm・sec-1 (plt0.001 mean ± SD), while CO increased after surgical intervention from3.5 ± 0.9 L・min-1 to 5.3 ± 1.1 L・min-1. Simple linear regression analysis showed that minute distance was related with CO before and after surgical intervention (r=0.81 and r=0.76, respectively). The changes in minute distance were also related with those in CO (r=0.80). Conclusion. The present study demonstrated that minute distance obtained from the pulsed Doppler tracings of PVF velocity was related with CO during cardiovascular surgery in adults. These results suggest that the changes in CO could be estimated from minute distance in pulmonary vein

    Novel erythrocyte pits in small tropical ruminant, lesser mouse deer.

    We examined unique erythrocyte pits of the peripheral blood and bone marrow in the lesser mouse deer, Tragulus javanicus, using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Under the SEM observation, the pit was observed as a hole on both mature erythrocytes of the peripheral blood and immature erythrocytes of the bone marrow. By the TEM, the mature erythrocytes had a vacuole, which showed complicated shape and occupied considerable space within the cytoplasm. The vacuole was communicated extracellularly by perforation, which corresponded to the hole on the cell surface. In the bone marrow, erythroblast and reticulocytes have a cytoplasmic vacuole. This abnormal feature of the erythrocytes is peculiar to the mouse deer, and not found in other tropical ruminants. Despite the disadvantage of volume loss from the small erythrocytes, the mouse deer were healthy and showed no signs of anaemia

    Self-trapped electrons and holes in PbBr2_2 crystals

    We have directly observed self-trapped electrons and holes in PbBr2_{2} crystals with electron-spin-resonance (ESR) technique. The self-trapped states are induced below 8 K by two-photon interband excitation with pulsed 120-fs-width laser light at 3.10 eV. Spin-Hamiltonian analyses of the ESR signals have revealed that the self-trapping electron centers are the dimer molecules of Pb2_23+^{3+} along the crystallographic a axis and the self-trapping hole centers are those of Br2_2^- with two possible configurations in the unit cell of the crystal. Thermal stability of the self-trapped electrons and holes suggests that both of them are related to the blue-green luminescence band at 2.55 eV coming from recombination of spatially separated electron-hole pairs.Comment: 8 pages (7 figures, 2 tables), ReVTEX; revised the text and figures 1, 4, and

    稀少遺伝性自己炎症性疾患: OTULIN関連自己炎症症候群の新たな病態を解明~既報の疾患に新たな視点を追加し、未診断患者の診断や炎症・細胞死研究の進展に期待~. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2024-04-25.OTULIN-related autoinflammatory syndrome (ORAS), a severe autoinflammatory disease, is caused by biallelic pathogenic variants of OTULIN, a linear ubiquitin-specific deubiquitinating enzyme. Loss of OTULIN attenuates linear ubiquitination by inhibiting the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex (LUBAC). Here, we report a patient who harbors two rare heterozygous variants of OTULIN (p.P152L and p.R306Q). We demonstrated accumulation of linear ubiquitin chains upon TNF stimulation and augmented TNF-induced cell death in mesenchymal stem cells differentiated from patient-derived iPS cells, which confirms that the patient has ORAS. However, although the de novo p.R306Q variant exhibits attenuated deubiquitination activity without reducing the amount of OTULIN, the deubiquitination activity of the p.P152L variant inherited from the mother was equivalent to that of the wild-type. Patient-derived MSCs in which the p.P152L variant was replaced with wild-type also exhibited augmented TNF-induced cell death and accumulation of linear chains. The finding that ORAS can be caused by a dominant-negative p.R306Q variant of OTULIN furthers our understanding of disease pathogenesis

    Detrimental effect of anemia after mechanical thrombectomy on functional outcome in patients with ischemic stroke

    BackgroundAnemia can occur due to an aspiration maneuver of blood with thrombi during mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for stroke. However, the association between postoperative anemia and stroke outcomes is unknown.MethodsIn a registry-based hospital cohort, consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent MT were retrospectively recruited. Patients were divided into the following three groups according to their hemoglobin (Hb) concentrations within 24 h after MT; no anemia (Hb concentrations ≥13 g/dL for men and ≥ 12 g/dL for women), mild anemia (Hb concentrations of 11–13 g/dL and 10–12 g/dL, respectively), and moderate-to-severe anemia (Hb concentrations <11 g/dL and < 10 g/dL, respectively). A 3-month modified Rankin Scale score of 0–2 indicated a favorable outcome.ResultsOf 470 patients, 166 were classified into the no anemia group, 168 into the mild anemia group, and 136 into the moderate-to-severe anemia group. Patients in the moderate-to-severe anemia group were older and more commonly had congestive heart failure than those in the other groups. Patients in the moderate-to-severe anemia group also had more device passes than those in the other groups (p < 0.001). However, no difference was observed in the rate of final extended thrombolysis in cerebral infarction ≥2b reperfusion or intracranial hemorrhage among the groups. A favorable outcome was less frequently achieved in the moderate-to-severe anemia group than in the no anemia group (adjusted odds ratio, 0.46; 95% confidence interval, 0.26–0.81) independent of the baseline Hb concentration. A restricted cubic spline model with three knots showed that the adjusted odds ratio for a favorable outcome was lower in patients with lower Hb concentrations within 24 h after MT.ConclusionModerate-to-severe anemia within 24 h after MT is independently associated with a reduced likelihood of a favorable outcome.Clinical trial registrationhttps://www.clinicaltrials.gov, NCT02251665

    Survey of Period Variations of Superhumps in SU UMa-Type Dwarf Novae

    We systematically surveyed period variations of superhumps in SU UMa-type dwarf novae based on newly obtained data and past publications. In many systems, the evolution of superhump period are found to be composed of three distinct stages: early evolutionary stage with a longer superhump period, middle stage with systematically varying periods, final stage with a shorter, stable superhump period. During the middle stage, many systems with superhump periods less than 0.08 d show positive period derivatives. Contrary to the earlier claim, we found no clear evidence for variation of period derivatives between superoutburst of the same object. We present an interpretation that the lengthening of the superhump period is a result of outward propagation of the eccentricity wave and is limited by the radius near the tidal truncation. We interpret that late stage superhumps are rejuvenized excitation of 3:1 resonance when the superhumps in the outer disk is effectively quenched. Many of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae showed long-enduring superhumps during the post-superoutburst stage having periods longer than those during the main superoutburst. The period derivatives in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae are found to be strongly correlated with the fractional superhump excess, or consequently, mass ratio. WZ Sge-type dwarf novae with a long-lasting rebrightening or with multiple rebrightenings tend to have smaller period derivatives and are excellent candidate for the systems around or after the period minimum of evolution of cataclysmic variables (abridged).Comment: 239 pages, 225 figures, PASJ accepte
