Determination of HART I Blade Structural Properties by Laboratory Testing
The structural properties of higher harmonic Aeroacoustic Rotor Test (HART I) blades were measured using the original set of blades tested in the German-dutch wind tunnel (DNW) in 1994. the measurements include bending and torsion stiffness, geometric offsets, and mass and inertia properties of the blade. the measured properties were compared to the estimated values obtained initially from the blade manufacturer. The previously estimated blade properties showed consistently higher stiffness, up to 30 percent for the flap bending in the blade inboard root section
Growth of superconducting MgB2 thin films via postannealing techniques
We report the effect of annealing on the superconductivity of MgB2 thin films
as functions of the postannealing temperature in the range from 700 C to 950 C
and of the postannealing time in the range from 30 min to 120 min. On annealing
at 900 C for 30 min, we obtained the best-quality MgB2 films with a transition
temperature of 39 K and a critical current density of ~ 10^7 A/cm^2. Using the
scanning electron microscopy, we also investigated the film growth mechanism.
The samples annealed at higher temperatures showed the larger grain sizes,
well-aligned crystal structures with preferential orientations along the
c-axis, and smooth surface morphologies. However, a longer annealing time
prevented the alignment of grains and reduced the superconductivity, indicating
a strong interfacial reaction between the substrate and the MgB2 film.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures include
Spectroscopic Evidence for Anisotropic S-Wave Pairing Symmetry in MgB2
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of superconducting MgB ( K)
were studied on high-density pellets and c-axis oriented films. The sample
surfaces were chemically etched to remove surface carbonates and hydroxides,
and the data were compared with calculated spectra for all symmetry-allowed
pairing channels. The pairing potential () is best described by an
anisotropic s-wave pairing model, with , where is the angle relative to the
crystalline c-axis, meV, and meV.Comment: 4 pages and 3 figures. Submitted to Physical Review Letters.

Effect of sintering temperature under high pressure in the uperconductivity for MgB2
We report the effect of the sintering temperature on the superconductivity of
MgB2 pellets prepared under a high pressure of 3 GPa. The superconducting
properties of the non-heated MgB2 in this high pressure were poor. However, as
the sintering temperature increased, the superconducting properties were vastly
enhanced, which was shown by the narrow transition width for the resistivity
and the low-field magnetizations. This shows that heat treatment under high
pressure is essential to improve superconducting properties. These changes were
found to be closely related to changes in the surface morphology observed using
scanning electron microscopy.Comment: 3 Pages including 3 figure
Anomalous microwave conductivity coherence peak in c-axis MgB2 thin film
The temperature dependence of the real part of the microwave complex
conductivity at 17.9 GHz obtained from surface impedance measurements of two
c-axis oriented MgB2 thin films reveals a pronounced maximum at a temperature
around 0.6 times the critical temperature. Calculations in the frame of a
two-band model based on Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) theory suggest that
this maximum corresponds to an anomalous coherence peak resembling the two-gap
nature of MgB2. Our model assumes there is no interband impurity scattering and
a weak interband pairing interaction, as suggested by bandstructure
calculations. In addition, the observation of a coherence peak indicates that
the pi-band is in the dirty limit and dominates the total conductivity of our
filmsComment: 10 pages, 4 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev. Let
Evaluation of Rotor Structural and Aerodynamic Loads using Measured Blade Properties
The structural properties of Higher harmonic Aeroacoustic Rotor Test (HART I) blades have been measured using the original set of blades tested in the wind tunnel in 1994. A comprehensive rotor dynamics analysis is performed to address the effect of the measured blade properties on airloads, blade motions, and structural loads of the rotor. The measurements include bending and torsion stiffness, geometric offsets, and mass and inertia properties of the blade. The measured properties are correlated against the estimated values obtained initially by the manufacturer of the blades. The previously estimated blade properties showed consistently higher stiffnesses, up to 30% for the flap bending in the blade inboard root section. The measured offset between the center of gravity and the elastic axis is larger by about 5% chord length, as compared with the estimated value. The comprehensive rotor dynamics analysis was carried out using the measured blade property set for HART I rotor with and without HHC (Higher Harmonic Control) pitch inputs. A significant improvement on blade motions and structural loads is obtained with the measured blade properties
