Erratum for the Report “A precise measurement of the magnetic field in the corona of the black hole binary V404 Cygni”

In the Report “A precise measurement of the magnetic field in the corona of the black hole binary V404 Cygni,” a calculation error led to values of the magnetic field that were about 14 times too high. The mathematical expressions given in the Report were correct, but the code used to calculate the numerical values included an extraneous factor, which led to incorrect results. The magnetic fields calculated from the observations at different wavelengths were all scaled by the same factor, so after this is removed they remain consistent with each other. The corrected value of the magnetic field is lower than previously calculated, making the field in V404 Cygni even more unlike those estimated for other systems. However, the lower magnetic field is no longer consistent with the value predicted from the equipartition model. The text, materials and methods, Table S1, and Figure S3 have been updated to reflect the corrected magnetic field values and to state that the system was not in equipartition. No other results or conclusions of the study were affected. The authors thank J. Malzac (Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et PlanĂ©tologie, UniversitĂ© de Toulouse) for alerting them to this error

The impact of knowledge management, brand orientation and global marketing strategy on performance

    No full text
In the current globally competitive market, the competitive argument supporting a global marketing strategy includes the economic and strategic necessity to continue to compete successfully (Verhage et al., 1989) when economic crises can have an extraordinary effect on the global economy (Smyczek and Glowik, 2011; Segal-Horn and Dean, 2010). For academicians, practitioners and government policy-makers it would be valuable to better understand the factors behind firms’ transformation from international to global status and whether another company from the same country or another country could possibly replicate their achievement (Gabrielsson and Gabrielsson, 2004). The processes of internationalization and global economic integration by firms are gaining greater significance (Aguilera-Caracuel et al., 2011; Polo Pe-a et al., 2011; Kontinen and Ojala, 2011; Baum et al., 2011). Additionally, the growing significance of marketing in emerging economies underpins recent research examining new product development, branding, product quality, market orientation and various other aspects of marketing (Ellis et al., 2011). The process of market reform which characterizes the move away from central planning in emerging economies creates a substantial need for managers to acquire the techniques and skills of marketing (Ellis, 2010); it also requires an increased contribution from the world’s major economies, an increase in international trade and to take continuous steps towards internationalization (Viswanathan and Dickson, 2007)

The Cinderella story of metabolic profiling: does metabolomics get to go to the functional genomics ball?

    No full text
To date most global approaches to functional genomics have centred on genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. However, since a number of high-profile publications, interest in metabolomics, the global profiling of metabolites in a cell, tissue or organism, has been rapidly increasing. A range of analytical techniques, including (1)H NMR spectroscopy, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS), Fourier Transform mass spectrometry (FT–MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and electrochemical array (EC-array), are required in order to maximize the number of metabolites that can be identified in a matrix. Applications have included phenotyping of yeast, mice and plants, understanding drug toxicity in pharmaceutical drug safety assessment, monitoring tumour treatment regimes and disease diagnosis in human populations. These successes are likely to be built on as other analytical and bioinformatic approaches are developed to fully exploit the information obtained in metabolic profiles. To assist in this process, databases of metabolomic data will be necessary to allow the passage of information between laboratories. In this prospective review, the capabilities of metabolomics in the field of medicine will be assessed in an attempt to predict the impact this ‘Cinderella approach’ will have at the ‘functional genomic ball’

Impact of adalimumab in patients with active non-infectious intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis in real-life clinical practice: HOPE study

    No full text
Background/Aim: This study evaluated real-life adalimumab impact in patients with active non-infectious intermediate, posterior, or panuveitis (NIIPPU). Methods: Adults with active NIIPPU received adalimumab in this prospective, observational study (06/2017-04/2020). Patients were evaluated at baseline (V0) and four follow-up visits over 12 months (V1-V4). Primary endpoint: proportion of patients achieving quiescence (anterior chamber (AC) cells grade and vitreous haze (VH) grade≀0.5+ in both eyes, no new active chorioretinal lesions) at any follow-up visit. Secondary endpoints: proportion of patients achieving quiescence at each visit; proportion of patients maintaining response; and proportion of patients with flares. Workability, visual function, healthcare resource utilisation, and safety were evaluated. Results: Full analysis set included 149 patients. Quiescence at any follow-up visit was achieved by 129/141 (91%) patients. Quiescence at individual visits was achieved by 99/145 (68%), 110/142 (77%), 102/131 (78%), and 99/128 (77%) patients at V1-V4, respectively. Number of patients in corticosteroid-free quiescence increased from 51/147 (35%; V1) to 67/128 (52%; V4; p<0.05). Proportion of patients with maintained response increased from 89/141 (63%; V2) to 92/121 (76%; V4; p<0.05) and proportion of patients with flare decreased from 25/145 (17%; V1) to 13/128 (10%; V4; p=0.092). Workability and visual function improved throughout the study. Proportion of patients with medical visits for uveitis decreased from 132/149 (89%; V0) to 27/127 (21%; V4). No new safety signals were observed. Conclusion: These results demonstrated adalimumab effectiveness in improving quality of life while reducing economic burden of active NIIPPU. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2022.
