    Masses of constituent quarks confined in open bottom hadrons

    We apply color-spin and flavor-spin quark-quark interactions to the meson and baryon constituent quarks, and calculate constituent quark masses, as well as the coupling constants of these interactions. The main goal of this paper was to determine constituent quark masses from light and open bottom hadron masses, using the fitting method we have developed and clustering of hadron groups. We use color-spin Fermi-Breit (FB) and flavor-spin Glozman-Riska (GR) hyperfine interaction (HFI) to determine constituent quark masses (especially bb quark mass). Another aim was to discern between the FB and GR HFI because our previous findings had indicated that both interactions were satisfactory. Our improved fitting procedure of constituent quark masses showed that on average color-spin (Fermi-Breit) hyperfine interaction yields better fits. The method also shows the way how the constituent quark masses and the strength of the interaction constants appear in different hadron environments.Comment: 15 pages, 6 tables, 1 figure.     The First Spectroscopically Resolved Sub-parsec Orbit of a Supermassive Binary Black Hole

    One of the most intriguing scenarios proposed to explain how active galactic nuclei are triggered involves the existence of a supermassive binary black hole system in their cores. Here we present an observational evidence for the first spectroscopically resolved sub-parsec orbit of a such system in the core of Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151. Using a method similar to those typically applied for spectroscopic binary stars we obtained radial velocity curves of the supermassive binary system, from which we calculated orbital elements and made estimates about the masses of components. Our analysis shows that periodic variations in the light and radial velocity curves can be accounted for an eccentric, sub-parsec Keplerian orbit of a 15.9-year period. The flux maximum in the lightcurve correspond to the approaching phase of a secondary component towards the observer. According to the obtained results we speculate that the periodic variations in the observed H{\alpha} line shape and flux are due to shock waves generated by the supersonic motion of the components through the surrounding medium. Given the large observational effort needed to reveal this spectroscopically resolved binary orbital motion we suggest that many such systems may exist in similar objects even if they are hard to find.     A Streamwise Constant Model of Turbulence in Plane Couette Flow

    Streamwise and quasi-streamwise elongated structures have been shown to play a significant role in turbulent shear flows. We model the mean behavior of fully turbulent plane Couette flow using a streamwise constant projection of the Navier Stokes equations. This results in a two-dimensional, three velocity component (2D/3C2D/3C) model. We first use a steady state version of the model to demonstrate that its nonlinear coupling provides the mathematical mechanism that shapes the turbulent velocity profile. Simulations of the 2D/3C2D/3C model under small amplitude Gaussian forcing of the cross-stream components are compared to DNS data. The results indicate that a streamwise constant projection of the Navier Stokes equations captures salient features of fully turbulent plane Couette flow at low Reynolds numbers. A system theoretic approach is used to demonstrate the presence of large input-output amplification through the forced 2D/3C2D/3C model. It is this amplification coupled with the appropriate nonlinearity that enables the 2D/3C2D/3C model to generate turbulent behaviour under the small amplitude forcing employed in this study.Comment: Journal of Fluid Mechanics 2010, in pres

    RXJ 0921+4529: a binary quasar or gravitational lens?

    We report the new spectroscopic observations of the gravitational lens RXJ 021+4529 with the multi-mode focal reducer SCORPIO of the SAO RAS 6-m telescope. The new spectral observations were compared with the previously observed spectra of components A and B of RXJ 0921+4529, i.e. the same components observed in different epochs. We found a significant difference in the spectrum between the components that cannot be explained with microlensing and/or spectral variation. We conclude that RXJ 0921+4529 is a binary quasar system, where redshifts of quasars A and B are 1.6535 +/- 0.0005 and 1.6625 +/- 0.0015, respectively.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal Letter

    Symmetry of k·p Hamiltonian in pyramidal InAs/GaAs quantum dots: Application to the calculation of electronic structure

    A method for the calculation of the electronic structure of pyramidal self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots is presented. The method is based on exploiting the C-4 symmetry of the 8-band k·p Hamiltonian with the strain taken into account via the continuum mechanical model. The operators representing symmetry group elements were represented in the plane wave basis and the group projectors were used to find the symmetry adapted basis in which the corresponding Hamiltonian matrix is block diagonal with four blocks of approximately equal size. The quantum number of total quasiangular momentum is introduced and the states are classified according to its value. Selection rules for interaction with electromagnetic field in the dipole approximation are derived. The method was applied to calculate electron and hole quasibound states in a periodic array of vertically stacked pyramidal self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots for different values of the distance between the dots and external axial magnetic field. As the distance between the dots in an array is varied, an interesting effect of simultaneous change of ground hole state symmetry, type, and the sign of miniband effective mass is predicted. This effect is explained in terms of the change of biaxial strain. It is also found that the magnetic field splitting of Kramer's double degenerate states is most prominent for the first and second excited state in the conduction band and that the magnetic field can both separate otherwise overlapping minibands and concatenate otherwise nonoverlapping minibands

    Nucleotide sequence analysis of the inversion termini located within IS3 elements α3β3 and β5α5 of Escherichia coli K-12

    This paper presents the first detailed structural analysis of termini of an inversion mediated by recombination between Escherichia coli native IS elements. The complete nucleotide sequence of the inversion termini in the lactose region of Escherichia coli K-12 confirms our previous suggestion that the inversion occurred by homologous recombination between α3β3 and β5α5 IS3 elements (D.J. Savic, J. Bacteriol. 140:311-319, 1979; D.J. Savic, S. Romac, and S.D. Ehrlich, J. Bacteriol. 155:943-946, 1983). The data show a slight structural divergence of α3β3 and β5α5 elements, but they do not reveal new sequences within recomhined IS3 elements that could influence the expression of nearby genes

Special emphasis is placed on exploring the role and importance of the practical application of green economy in the tourism industry. Methods of analysis and synthesis, inductive and deductive methods, descriptive methods, as well as the comparative method and the method of benchmarking will be applied in the treatment of the subject matter. The main objective of this paper is to show and prove that in the modern tourist business it is necessary to apply the concept of green economy and the concept of sustainable development as a whole. In this sense, the paper especially analyzed sustainable tourism development and ecotourism as an important segment of sustainable tourism. Ecotourism is ecological responsible tourist traveling for the stay and enjoyment in the nature, into relatively protected places. As a result of sustainable, green economy concept application, ecotourism has important positive contributions to the environmental, social, cultural and economic well-being of local communities and tourist eco-destinations all over the world

    Effects of nerve and fibroblast growth factors on the production of nitric oxide in experimental model of Huntington's disease

    The role of nitric oxide (NO) in neurological diseases represents one of the most studied, yet controversial subjects in physiology. The aim was to examine the effects of intrastriatal injection neurotrophins (nerve growth factors-NGF, fibroblast growth factors-FGF) in order to investigate the possible involvement of NO in quinolinic acid (QA) induced striatum toxicity in the rat model of Huntington's disease (HD). QA was administered unilaterally into the striatum of adult Wistar rats in a single dose of 150 nM. The other two groups of animals were pretreated immediately before QA application with NGF and FGF, respectively. Control group was treated with 0.9% saline solution in the same manner. Animals were decapitated 7 days after the treatment. Nitrite levels were significantly decreased both in the ipsi- and contra lateral striatum and forebrain cortex of NGF- and FGF-treated animals compared with QA treatment. These results indicated a temporal and spatial propagation of oxidative stress and spread protective effects of NGF and FGF on the forebrain cortex, the distant structure, but tightly connected with striatum, the place of direct neurotoxin damage. Neurotrophins could be the potential neuroprotective agents in HD
