    The Efficacy of the Integrated Child Development Services in Perspective to Nutritional Condition and Growth Development

    A survey was conducted to assess the nutritional status of children (0-6 years) among 40 Anganwadis in 4 districts of Kerala State registered under the ICDS scheme. A self- prepared structured interview schedule was used. To get the qualitative information of the study anthropometric measures include height and weight were used for assessing nutritional status of the children. The stepwise analysis of two variables height for age and weight for age was applicable on the basis of Waterlow\u27s and Gomez\u27 classification. To examine the relationship between nutritional status of the child and selected variable that affects nutritional status of children, Chi-square test was employed. Based on Gomez\u27 classification, out of 400 children, only 300 (75.0%) of children received supplementary nutrition through ICDS out of which 250 (62.5%) children were normal while 50 (12.5%) were underweight. Based on Waterlow\u27s classification out of 400 children, only 290 (72.5%) of children received supplementary nutrition through ICDS out of these children 200 (50 %) were normal while 90 (22.5%) were stunted. It can thus be concluded that majority of children were normal who received supplementary nutrition through ICDS

    The Effectiveness of Teaching Programme Regarding Prevention and Management Napkin Dermatitis in Allahabad

    The neonates are unique in several ways in comparison with older children and adults which render them highly susceptible to severe dermatological disorders. Skin diseases in infancy and childhood often-present patterns, which may diverge from the same diseases in adults. Infants can get a variety of skin diseases, and some are more common than others. Infants are particularly at risk for developing diaper dermatitis and its potential consequences. It is one of the most common skin problems in infants and children, affecting between 7 and 35 per cent of infants at some point. Diaper rash occurs most commonly in infants between ages nine and 12 months, but can occur at any time the child wears a diaper. The present study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on prevention and management of napkin dermatitis in infants’ on mothers residing at Rural Naini, Allahabad. The conceptual framework set up for the study is Conceptual framework based on modified general system theory (Bertalamffy & JW Kenny). The model which has four phases i.e. input, throughput, output and feedback, context, It provide comprehension, systematic and continuous ongoing frame work for program evaluation and hence helped the investigator to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on prevention and management of napkin dermatitis in infants and assess the level of knowledge gained by the mothers regarding prevention and management of napkin dermatitis in infants. In this study various literature was reviewed which includes, the research design selected for the study was pre experimental research design of one group pre-test post-test design.     Mother, I want to marry her, but only if you wish”: A Case of Visual Analysis to Understand Families in Contemporary Kerala

    The study suggests looking into culturally sensitive data sources like popular films that open a window into the social psyche. As an illustrative case, the climax sequence of a popular Malayalam film Aniyathipravu is analyzed using the method of visual analysis. The analysis is guided by the hermeneutic approach of psychoanalysis and by inputs from evolutionary psychology. The analysis attempts to explore the aspects of individuation of the son, female identity formation and the familial consequences of these aspects in the contemporary society. It reveals how the son is caught in the ambivalence of wanting to be separate from his mother and to be dependent on her, and how the mother is evolved into the cultural stereotype of mother-in-law. The study also shows that motherhood overshadows all other aspects of the female identity in the contemporary society. Study has demonstrated the use of visual analysis to interpret data from popular culture. It indicates the need to psychologically analyze family structure in the contemporary society

    Capture based aquaculture of mud spiny lobster, Panulirus polyphagus (Herbst, 1793) in open sea floating net cages off Veraval, north-west coast of India

    Capture based aquaculture (CBA) of the mud spiny lobster, Panulirus polyphagus was conducted in two cylindrical floating net cages of 6 m diameter and 4.5 m depth, made of HDPE sapphire netting of 18 mm mesh size. The cages were installed at a depth of 8 m, about 900 m away from the shore off Prabhas Patan, Veraval, India. Live lobsters were collected from lobster fishing centres of Veraval and Mahua regions of Gujarat and segregated into two groups: animals weighing 80-120 g (Group-1) and animals weighing < 80 g (Group-2). One thousand numbers of sub-adults of Group-1 with initial body weight of 99.75 ± 8.4 g, were stocked in Cage-1 and 1500 juveniles of Group-2 with initial body weight of 46.44 ± 8.8 g were stocked in Cage-2. The lobsters were fed twice daily with trash fish @ 8 % of the body weight by tray feeding. After the culture period of 90 days, no significant difference (p > 0.05) was observed in the survival rate (overall survival = 93.7 %) whereas, juvenile lobsters in Cage-2 showed weight increase of 1.49 g d-1 and specific growth rates of 1.51 % d-1 which was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than the weight increase of 1.17 g d-1 and specific growth rates of 0.80 % d-1 recorded from Cage-1. Results suggest that P. polyphagus has potential for capture based aquaculture in sea cage culture systems along Gujarat coast

    Hydration of Hybrid Cements at Low Temperatures: A Study on Portland Cement-Blast Furnace Slag&mdash;Na2SO4

    Replacement of Portland cement with high volumes of blast furnace slag is known to negatively affect the early-age properties of concrete, particularly at low temperatures. In this study, the effectiveness of Na2SO4 on the mechanical properties, hydration kinetics and microstructure development of a commercial CEM III/B (~69% slag) is investigated at 10 and 20 &deg;C. Na2SO4 enhances compressive strength at both 10 and 20 &deg;C, and at both early (1 and 7 days) and later ages (28 and 90 days). QXRD shows an increase in the degree of alite hydration at 1 day with Na2SO4 addition, while the degree of clinker and slag hydration is similar for all the systems from 7 to 90 days. An increase in ettringite content is observed at all ages in the systems with Na2SO4. Microstructure and pore structure shows densification of hydrates and reduction in porosity on addition of Na2SO4

    Effect of grinding on the quantification of the bound water in tricalcium silicate

    The effect of grinding of hydrated tricalcium silicate (C3S) pastes on the bound water content measured by TGA is investigated. The samples were subjected to different curing regimes at 20°C and 40°C at a constant water to cement ratio of 0.5. Hydration reactions were stopped using a freeze drier. To study the effect of grinding, samples were either roughly crushed or finely ground. Although the amount of water measured from the dehydroxylation of portlandite is not affected with grinding, the amount of total bound water increases with grinding. This increase in measured bound water is not affected by the studied curing regimes and degrees of hydration of C3S. Fine grinding before hydration stoppage using freeze dryer measured similar bound water content compared to crushed samples.     Effect of nanoparticles on the hydration of NaOH‐activated GGBFS

    The effect of nanoparticles and nucleation seeds on the hydration kinetics of alkali-activated materials is not well understood. Implications of nano-TiO2 (nTiO2) and C–S–H nucleation seeds (XSeed) on the early-age hydration and later-age properties of sodium hydroxide-activated ground granulated blast furnace slag were investigated. The effect of NaOH concentration (0.5, 1, 2, and 4 M) in the activator solution was reported. Results indicated the acceleration of early hydration kinetics with mixes of XSeed and nTiO2 when the concentration of the activator solution was 0.5/1 M. No considerable effects were noted with XSeed addition for 2/4 M, whereas there was an acceleration with the addition of nTiO2. These differences were attributed to the lack of dispersion of XSeed at higher activator concentrations. Hydrate phase assemblage did not change with the addition of nanoparticles by 28 days of hydration. Increase in strength, along with pore refinement, was observed with the incorporation of nanoparticles.<br/
