Description of the fluctuating colloid-polymer interface

    Get PDF
To describe the full spectrum of surface fluctuations of the interface between phase-separated colloid-polymer mixtures from low scattering vector q (classical capillary wave theory) to high q (bulk-like fluctuations), one must take account of the interface's bending rigidity. We find that the bending rigidity is negative and that on approach to the critical point it vanishes proportionally to the interfacial tension. Both features are in agreement with Monte Carlo simulations.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. Accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. Let

Simulation and experimental verification of W-band finite frequency selective surfaces on infinite background with 3D full wave solver NSPWMLFMA

We present the design, processing and testing of a W-band finite by infinite and a finite by finite Grounded Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSSs) on infinite background. The 3D full wave solver Nondirective Stable Plane Wave Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm (NSPWMLFMA) is used to simulate the FSSs. As NSPWMLFMA solver improves the complexity matrix-vector product in an iterative solver from O(N(2)) to O(N log N) which enables the solver to simulate finite arrays with faster execution time and manageable memory requirements. The simulation results were verified by comparing them with the experimental results. The comparisons demonstrate the accuracy of the NSPWMLFMA solver. We fabricated the corresponding FSS arrays on quartz substrate with photolithographic etching techniques and characterized the vector S-parameters with a free space Millimeter Wave Vector Network Analyzer (MVNA)

This study aims to examine the role of extension workers for breeders in buffalo farming in Moa District, Southwest Maluku Regency. The method used in this research is survey method, the sample is determined by purposive sampling., The form of qualitative descriptive analysis with the first stage is checking the data, in this activity it is carried out after conducting an interview (filling out a list of questions). Based on the results of the research, the performance of agricultural extension services at the Moa Subdistrict BPP in developing buffalo farming in the research village is running well but not yet optimal. This is because the quantity of extension workers is still small and the quality of the timeliness of extension workers in completing the work is not good because the amount of work to be done is not balanced with the quantity of extension workers. In addition, there is still a lack of infrastructure for extension workers such as the posluhdes (Village Extension Officer)

    22q11.2 deletion syndrome

    Get PDF
22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is the most common chromosomal microdeletion disorder, estimated to result mainly from de novo non-homologous meiotic recombination events occurring in approximately 1 in every 1,000 fetuses. The first description in the English language of the constellation of findings now known to be due to this chromosomal difference was made in the 1960s in children with DiGeorge syndrome, who presented with the clinical triad of immunodeficiency, hypoparathyroidism and congenital heart disease. The syndrome is now known to have a heterogeneous presentation that includes multiple additional congenital anomalies and later-onset conditions, such as palatal, gastrointestinal and renal abnormalities, autoimmune disease, variable cognitive delays, behavioural phenotypes and psychiatric illness - all far extending the original description of DiGeorge syndrome. Management requires a multidisciplinary approach involving paediatrics, general medicine, surgery, psychiatry, psychology, interventional therapies (physical, occupational, speech, language and behavioural) and genetic counselling. Although common, lack of recognition of the condition and/or lack of familiarity with genetic testing methods, together with the wide variability of clinical presentation, delays diagnosis. Early diagnosis, preferably prenatally or neonatally, could improve outcomes, thus stressing the importance of universal screening. Equally important, 22q11.2DS has become a model for understanding rare and frequent congenital anomalies, medical conditions, psychiatric and developmental disorders, and may provide a platform to better understand these disorders while affording opportunities for translational strategies across the lifespan for both patients with 22q11.2DS and those with these associated features in the general population

A study of 15N14N isotopic exchange over cobalt molybdenum nitrides

    Get PDF
The 14N/15N isotopic exchange pathways over Co3Mo3N, a material of interest as an ammonia synthesis catalyst and for the development of nitrogen transfer reactions, have been investigated. Both the homomolecular and heterolytic exchange processes have been studied, and it has been shown that lattice nitrogen species are exchangeable. The exchange behavior was found to be a strong function of pretreatment with ca. 25% of lattice N atoms being exchanged after 40 min at 600 °C after N2 pretreatment at 700 °C compared to only 6% following similar Ar pretreatment. This observation, for which the potential contribution of adsorbed N species can be discounted, is significant in terms of the application of this material. In the case of the Co6Mo6N phase, regeneration to Co3Mo3N under 15N2 at 600 °C occurs concurrently with 14N15N formation. These observations demonstrate the reactivity of nitrogen in the Co–Mo–N system to be a strong function of pretreatment and worthy of further consideration

Modeling Patient Journeys for Demand Segments in Chronic Care, With an Illustration to Type 2 Diabetes

Chronic care is an important area for cost-effective and efficient health service delivery. Matching demand and services for chronic care is not easy as patients may have different needs in different stages of the disease. More insight is needed into the complete patient journey to do justice to the services required in each stage of the disease, to the different experiences of patients in each part of the journey, and to outcomes in each stage. With patient journey we refer to the “journey” of the patient along the services received within a demand segment of chronic care. We developed a generic framework for describing patient journeys and provider networks, based on an extension of the well-known model of Donabedian, to relate demand, services, resources, behavior, and outcomes. We also developed a generic operational model for the detailed modeling of services and resources, allowing for insight into costs. The generic operational model can be tailored to the specific characteristics of patient groups. We applied this modeling approach to type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. Diabetes care is a form of chronic care for patients suffering diabetes mellitus. We studied the performance of T2D networks, using a descriptive model template. To identify and describe demand we made use of the following demand segments within the diabetes type 2 population: patients targeted for prevention; patients with stage 1 diabetes treated by their GP with lifestyle advice; patients with diabetes stage 2 treated by their GP with lifestyle advice and oral medication; patients with stage 3 diabetes treated by their GP with lifestyle advice, oral medication, and insulin injections; patients with stage 4 diabetes with complications (treated by internal medicine specialists). We used a Markov model to describe the transitions between the different health states. The model enables the patient journey through the health care system for cohorts of newly diagnosed T2D patients to be described, and to make a projection of the resource requirements of the different demand segments over the years. We illustrate our approach with a case study on a T2D care network in The Netherlands and reflect on the role of demand segmentation to analyse the case study results, with the objective of improving the T2D service delivery
