In this study, we investigate whether transactional analysis (TA) training could improve social adjustment in a case study of women with spouses with drug addiction. This experimental study was performed on 40 people who were addicted to drugs and were under medication in some clinical centers in city of Esfahan, Iran. The patients were randomly divided into two groups (control and an experimental group). The experimental group was trained under transactional training for 8 one-hour sessions. Cronbach alpha was calculated as 0.89, which is well above the minimum acceptable. The results of the survey show that the means of two groups before test are close to each other. However, after TA has been accomplished, there is meaningful difference between these two groups. The result of F-value statistical test is also meaningful when the level of significance is five percent. In other word, there are some evidences to believe that transactional analysis training impacts on our surveyed people, positively

Background: Iranian population is highly immune from T.Gondii and CMV infection. Objective: To determine the immunity to T.Gondii and CMV in children with the cochlear implant surgery accompanied with the profound Idiopathic type of SNHL Methods and Materials: We studied 45 cases with the cochlear implant surgery (Idiopathic profound SNHL) and 30 controls with the normal OAEs in a cross-sectional study in Rasoul Akram Hospital in Tehran (2010-2012). Blood samples (2 ml) were centrifuged and were kept frozen at-20°C. Sera searched for the specific antibodies against CMV and T.Gondii. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA; BioChem Immune System) was calculated qualitatively. (P value< 0.05) Results: Range of age in cases with profound SNHL (<95 dB) was 6 months-to-14 years; mean=3.4+3.16 y; Idiopathic type of SNHL children diagnosed in 45 cases were younger than cases with non-Idiopathic SNHL (mean age=20 months; PV=0.05). Positive T.Gondii-IgM was found in 8 /45 (17.7) and also one of these cases (2.2) had positive T.Gondii IgG test. Positive CMV-IgM & IgG were determined in 23 and 51 of cases, respectively. Positive T.Gondii IgG was observed in 60 (18/30) of controls but none of them had positive T.Gondii IgM. Positive CMV-IgM & IgG in controls was 3.3 and 90, respectively. Conclusion: CMV infection is one of the most common infections found in profound idiopathic SNHL children especially in younger cases (< 2 years) even in highly immune Iranian populations. Probably, T.Gondii infection has a relative role in younger cases with profound SNHL but a higher role in mild to moderate SNHL in our pediatric population. Most of the T.Gondii infected SNHL cases never require cochlear implant surgery. In future, a cohort study for prenatal diagnosis of the intrauterine infection and the role of infection in producing SNHLwould be very helpful. It has been recommended to search the specific antibodies against these two common infections in all types of SNHL in pediatric groups which are treatable especially in younger cases (<2 year). © 2019 Noorbakhsh et al

Rebar Impalement Trauma in A Construction Worker: A Case Report and Literature Review

    Get PDF
Coincident impalement trauma to the neck and chest is infrequent but life-threatening. Our case was a 35-year-old man, who presented with rebar penetration injury to the neck and mediastinal area. He was conscious and his vital signs were stable. After initial imaging, the patient was transferred to the operation room for explorative surgery; however, as the rebar was loos in its site, we simply pulled out the rod. The patient developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) during their administration and was eventually discharged without further complications and comorbidities

Mechanochemical Cu( ii ) complexes and propargylamine synthetic adventures †

    Get PDF
We synthesized and characterized known and new Cu(ii)–salen complexes and investigated their efficacy in yielding propargylamines (PAs) via an A3 coupling reaction mechanochemically. Although the method appears simple, we explicitly describe synthetic obstacles that urge unavoidable solvent use to isolate the molecular entities in high purity. The recovered complexes retain structure and catalytic efficacy, and a library of twenty-four known and unknown PAs are isolated in very good to excellent yields. The scope and limitations of this method are presented

Development of a microfluidic capture device for the manipulation and concentration of waterborne pathogens

Severe epidemics in North America due to consumption of polluted water containing pathogens such as Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia led to the development of standard detection methods like USEPA 1623 (by US Environmental Protection Agency). USEPA 1623 method, although fairly practical, is still at its infancy. There are still questions and ambiguity about the precision and accuracy of this method for the separation and detection of pathogens. USEPA 1623 includes a series of lengthy unreliable procedures that are highly prone to failure. The main purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of developing alternative methods to improve pathogen recovery. The proposed method includes a microfluidic flow cell which implements physical properties of the pathogens (e.g., mass and electric charge) to manipulate, separate and concentrate them for future detection step. In general, the proposed device includes a flow path with an arbitrary shape through which water sample is flushed. The device then separates and concentrates the pathogens at the proximity of the “capture sites” where they are trapped by complementary antibody molecules. In order to design such a device, first, continuum numerical simulation is used to determine the optimum device geometry from among the many possible configurations. In addition to the device geometry, the effect of two mechanisms, sedimentation and electrophoresis, related to the physical properties of the pathogen is numerically studied using continuum simulation to enhance the pathogen separation process. Discrete numerical simulation is implemented afterwards to achieve a clear understanding of physical phenomena occurring at the molecular level close to the capture sites. The results obtained from the numerical modeling are used to fabricate a microfluidic test cell. The test cell is then examined in terms of pathogen separation and capture performance, and the experimental results are compared with those obtained by the modeling. It is shown that the proposed capture method has a better recovery with a higher precision when used along with the sedimentation process. Electrophoresis, however, introduces new challenges to the problem which necessitates further investigation of the method. Some of the most important challenges are discussed, and the potential remedies are suggested.Applied Science, Faculty ofEngineering, School of (Okanagan)Graduat

The discovery of the East takes an important place in the writings of Maurice Barres in 1914. His notes are always defined by his travel projects, knowing that until then he had professed a certain contempt for the move, feigning be bored to travel to have confirmation of what he already knew from his reading. Thus, the subject and object of his writing and imagination are marked in its editorial, bending the rules that define the travelogue from the early nineteenth century. They consisting of a mixture of diary and descriptions of places and men who take the witness to drive. In the nineteenth century, writers such as Chateaubriand, Lamartine and Nerval begin to write their travel notes East where their discoveries and sensations mingle with the idea they had in prior to departure. The autobiographical dimension of these texts that reveal a stage of existence of the authors is considerable. The spirit of travel and application of the kind will be taken at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including Barres from 1887, when it begins to make stays in Italy from 1890 to 1904. Being from the Levant as a missionary of the House to objectively reflect the French presence in the east, knowing that the journey is a confrontation of the element Me with a new world, filled both political and poetic aspirations of Barres. In the Self Worship, Barres was already showing his desire to escape from the community and all that is monotone on one side and negative on the other. He distanced himself with all his political activities and all the torments of life, away from his usual world for two months. Unfortunately the Great War breaks out one month after his return, and he will let his plans for the French unfulfilled propaganda
