    Aggregation Services and Songwriter Independence

    Get PDF
Digital download aggregation services are the modern songwriter’s greatest ally and independent record labels’ newest competition. Digital download aggregators like CDBaby, Distrokid, Tunecore, and Awal have made releasing an album for online distribution far easier than before. Many aggregators are affordable and also provide many services to the songwriter that historically involved employing additional middlemen. Like distribution, the mastering stage of production has evolved. Mastering music can now be done through online services independently and on a very tight budget. Automated mastering services like LANDR and iZotope will be briefly discussed in section three, as well as additional options for the modern artist. These services illustrate a portion of the online network of music production, which can offer a replacement for the historic record label model. Historically, terms like ‘A&R scout’ were used to describe those who seek local talent and offer them a contract. This contract was often manipulative and included many obligations. A distributor, engineer, and manager were usually partnered with the musicians and were often compensated with more security than the songwriter. A modern musician hoping to distribute their work to streaming services online now has more freedom to release their work without manipulative, obligatory contracts. It is more cost effective than ever to record, mix, and distribute; and the competition online has increased as a result

MILO: Models of innovation in learning online at Key Stage 3 and 14-19: Final report executive summary

This summary report presents and analyses the key findings from eight case studies, which reflect a wide range of models of online learning, each of which has been developed for specific reasons, largely in relation to visions of how technology can transform learning, but also to solve practical problems such as re-engaging disaffected learners and coping with rising pupil numbers

Using traceability in model-to-model transformation to quantify confidence based on previous history

A widely used method when generating code for the purposes oftransitioning systems, security, the automotive industry and other mission critical scenarios is model-to-model transformation. Traceability is a mechanism for relating the source model elements and the destination elements. It is used to identity how the latter came from the former as well as indicating when and in what order. In these application domains, traceability is a very useful tool for debugging, testing and performance tuning of model transformations. Recent advances in big data technologies have made it possible to produce a history of these executions. In this thesis, we present a method on how we can use such historical data that quantifies the confidence a user has on a newly proposed transformation. For a given trace of execution, considering historical traces that are either well tested, or performed correctly over time, we introduce a measure of confidence for the new trace. This metric is made to compliment that of traditional testing and verification. For example, our metric will aid in deciding whether to deploy automatically generated code when there is not enough time or resources for thorough testing and verification. We shall evaluate our framework by providing a transformation that transitions a relational database into that of a NoSQL database, specifically Apache HBase. This transformation involves changing the nature of the data that is mapped, such that a loss in integrity occurs in the event of its failure

Longitudinal Study of Relapse From AIDS-Preventive Behavior Among Homosexual Men

There is no viable alternative to the control of AIDS besides prevention; factors contributing to relapse from behaviors presumed to reduce risk of that disease were investigated. The authors studied 524 homosexual men who had refrained from or used condoms during receptive or insertive anal sex (RAS and IAS, respectively) for at least 12 months, contacting them at 6-month intervals thereafter to ascertain current practices. They determined, via interviews, personal traits, appraised stress of maintaining safer sex, mental health, life events, and efforts to cope with potential infection. Negative life events, personal control beliefs, problem-solving abilities, and coping via problem-focused (e.g., seeking a monogamous union) rather than emotion-focused (e.g., "when I need a cure, they will have one") behaviors were associated with RAS, but less so with LAS safer sex behaviors. These findings provide a basis for individual and community-level interventions to change behavior and reduce AIDS risk.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/66577/2/10.1177_109019819802500509.pd
