    Identifying Success Criteria and Critical Factors at the Post-handover Stage for International Development Projects

    This thesis aims to explore whether the outputs of ID projects can continuously deliver benefits at the post-handover stage. This research reviewed three main areas of the literature: (1) project success; (2) post-project evaluation; and (3) project benefits management, which resulted in limited studies having explored project success at the post-handover stage for ID projects. This thesis’ methodological approach rooted on interpretivism and used of the constructivist grounded theory method (CGTM). An example of ID projects was the I-MHERE funding scheme, sourced from a World Bank loan, run between 2010 and 2012, and implemented at a majority of higher education institutions (HEIs) across Indonesia. The research collected secondary and primary data, primarily, interviews from 18 participants from two institutions, was able to identify 10 success criteria and eight critical factors. The analyses indicated the different levels of the significance of identified success criteria and critical factors, as well as a variety of definitions at the post-handover stage, including further analysis by using each participant’s institutional attributes, e.g. managerial level, organisational tenure and job tenure, and suggested that organisational tenure was the core attribute for two others. This thesis also demonstrates the use of benefit reviews as a more comprehensive post-project evaluation than the one proposed earlier. This thesis concludes its findings by generating a middle-range theory: the higher the level of organisational tenure, the more insightful reviewing benefits of delivered outputs. The middle-range theory was believed to be applicable, not only for ID projects, but also other types of projects. To conclude, the findings allowed an opportunity to acknowledge its limitations that would led to recommendations for future studies

    The purpose of this community devotion activity is to develop business networks, especially promoting the development of Gita Village as a tourist village. The end result of this activity was the Village Government, BUM Village Management, and the community understands the importance of networking and promotion aspects in the development of a business, specifically on the Development of Gita Village as one of the tourist villages in the Province of North Maluku. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengembangkan jejaring bisnis khususnya poromosi dalam mengembangkan Desa Gita sebagai desa wisata. Adapun metode yang digunakan adalah metode ceramah dan tanya jawab.     Identifying success criteria at the post-handover stage for international development projects

    The question of how successful a project is beyond the handover stage is still echoing in the literature on project management and more magnified in international development (ID) projects. In addressing the question, this study aims to demonstrate the importance of time frame in assessing project success, particularly identifying the success criteria at the post-handover stages (outcome and impact stages). This study used a qualitative approach that was rooted in interpretivism, allowing the use of constructivist grounded theory method (CGTM) in an ID project as an example. The study identified eight success criteria: Convenience, Development, Documentation, Maintainability, New Capability, Price of Service or Product, Training, and Usability. The study also found that, first, each participant had different emphases on different success criteria; second, most of the identified success criteria were still under the outcome stage; and lastly, usability received the highest responses from the participants as the most concerned criterion at the post-handover stages. This last finding verified the importance of time frame where the other criteria became less important if the outputs were useful to deliver the institutions’ strategic objectives. Future studies that use more sampled participants and different types of institutions are also encouraged

    City Branding Kota Ternate

    City branding has become a massive effort by many cities as tourist destinations to promote the city nationally and internationally. Ambon City, the Capital of Maluku Province, known as the “City of Music,” and the City of Solo with “Solo the Spirit of Java,” are examples of city branding. In North Maluku Province, Ternate City has a long history of colonialism, international trade, and a developing city. Unfortunately, inconsistencies still exist in how the city should be known. This study aims to identify and define city branding by using the constructivist grounded theory method. The themes identified were quality tourism, economic value, community engagement, stakeholder consensus, legendary ancient leadership, and historic and renowned commodity. Six main themes are theoretically based on how to branding Ternate city and involving seven important participants. These themes are then used to define the branding of Ternate City. Current research offers a testable model to brand a place or city based on the identified subjects. At the same time, potential future studies are also suggested regarding the weaknesses of the current study.City branding telah menjadi upaya besar-besaran oleh banyak kota sebagai tujuan wisata untuk mempromosikan kota secara nasional dan internasional. Kota Ambon, Ibukota Provinsi Maluku yang dikenal sebagai “Kota Musik”, dan Kota Solo dengan “Solo the Spirit of Java” adalah contoh dari city branding. Di Provinsi Maluku Utara, Kota Ternate memiliki sejarah panjang kolonialisme, perdagangan internasional, dan kota berkembang. Sayangnya, masih ada inkonsistensi dalam bagaimana kota itu seharusnya dikenal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan mendefinisikan city branding dengan menggunakan metode konstruktivis grounded theory. Tema yang diidentifikasi adalah pariwisata berkualitas, nilai ekonomi, keterlibatan masyarakat, konsensus pemangku kepentingan, kepemimpinan kuno yang legendaris, dan komoditas bersejarah dan terkenal. Enam tema utama tersebut secara teoritis didasarkan pada bagaimana branding kota Ternate dan melibatkan tujuh partisipan penting. Tema-tema tersebut kemudian digunakan untuk mendefinisikan branding Kota Ternate. Penelitian saat ini menawarkan model yang dapat diuji untuk branding suatu tempat atau kota berdasarkan tema yang diidentifikasi.     Kepuasan Seleksi dan Atribut Perguruan Tinggi: Mediasi Kepuasan Informasi

    This study aimed to examine the satisfaction of information availability in mediating the relationship between attributes of and satisfaction in choosing higher education institutions for Universitas Khairun and IAIN Ternate. A total of 252 students from both institutions were involved in this survey, with an effective rate of return of 70%. A hierarchical regression analysis was run by using IBM SPSS version 24. The results showed that for Universitas Khairun, information satisfaction fully mediates the relationship between attributes and satisfaction in choosing a university. In contrast, for IAIN Ternate, information satisfaction is only an independent variable. The implications and suggestions for further research are also discussed in this study.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kepuasan ketersediaan informasi dalam memediasi hubungan antara atribut dan kepuasan dalam memilih perguruan tinggi bagi Universitas Khairun dan IAIN Ternate. Sebanyak 252 mahasiswa dari kedua institusi terlibat dalam survei ini, dengan tingkat pengembalian efektif 70%. Analisis regresi hierarkis dilakukan dengan menggunakan IBM SPSS versi 24. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk Universitas Khairun, kepuasan informasi sepenuhnya memediasi hubungan antara atribut dan kepuasan dalam memilih universitas. Sebaliknya, bagi IAIN Ternate, kepuasan informasi hanya merupakan variabel bebas. Implikasi dan saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya juga dibahas dalam penelitian ini

    Understanding history, historical thinking, and historical consciousness, in learning history: An ex post-facto correlation

    This study aims to analyze the relationship between historical understanding, historical thinking, towards historical consciousness in learning history. This type of research is ex post-facto with a correlational design. The population is class X high school students in Yogyakarta, with a sample of 177. The side technique uses cluster random sampling. Data collection uses instruments in the form of historical understanding tests, historical thinking tests, and historical consciousness questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out through partial correlation and multiple correlations with a significance level of 0.05, and the prerequisite test analysis used normality, linearity, and multicollinearity tests. The results show that the relationship between historical understanding, historical thinking, and historical consciousness in history learning has a strong and significant correlation. These three components should not be separated from the history learning process so that history learning is more meaningful for its historical values

    The Role of Receiving Technology on Employee Performance: Job Satisfaction as Mediation

    Introduction/Main Objectives: The development of information technology today has resulted in the acceptance of technology being strongly influenced by transformational leadership, system quality, and facilitating conditions, as well as how it can affect employee performance and job satisfaction. Background Problems: Research on how job satisfaction mediates the relationship between employee performance and acceptance still needs to be improved. This research discusses how transformational leadership, facilitating conditions, and system quality shape technology acceptance and employee performance, primarily determined by job satisfaction, especially the mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between techno­logy acceptance and employee performance. Novelty: Inconsistencies both in theory and empirically making it necessary to re-test transformational leadership, system quality, and conditions that facilitate technology acceptance and analyze the effect of technology acceptance on employee performance through job satisfac­tion, both directly and indirectly, in a study of the Ternate City Government. Research Method: 117 respondents were involved in this study. The respondents were determined through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using partial least squares (PLS) version 3. Seven hypotheses were proposed in this study. Findings: The research findings indicate that system quality and facilitating conditions can predict technology acceptance and employee performance can predict job satisfaction. The results of this study confirm the indirect mediating function of job satisfaction in the relationship between technology acceptance and employee performance. Conclusion: The Municipal Government of Ternate must improve system information management and offer even better facilitating conditions for implementation to increase the acceptance of the technology

    Mendefinisikan Pengelolaan Keuangan Dalam Keluarga Sakinah

    Secularism has been entering every aspect of life, including a micro-level of financial management of a family. This study sheds light on how religious views can be used to minimize the influence of secularism. This study was mainly aimed at demonstrating how sacred goals in Muslim families, through Sakeenah values, can be used as an antidote to secularism practices in managing family finance. Thirteen contextual characteristics of financial management in eight Muslim families were identified using the Grounded Theory method. These characteristics were used to verify main concepts—basic financial management, family structure, Sakeenah elements, and a form of secularism—usury. Using the Grounded Theory method was also the other aim of this study that demonstrated its use to deepen the interrelation between those four main concepts and those characteristics contextually. Several limitations surfaced after the analyses, and this allowed recommendations for future studies.Sekularisme telah memasuki setiap aspek kehidupan, termasuk pengelolaan keuangan tingkat mikro sebuah keluarga. Studi ini menyoroti bagaimana pandangan agama dapat digunakan untuk meminimalkan pengaruh sekularisme. Penelitian ini terutama bertujuan untuk menunjukkan bagaimana tujuan suci dalam keluarga Muslim, melalui nilai-nilai Sakinah, dapat digunakan sebagai penangkal praktik sekularisme dalam mengelola keuangan keluarga. Tiga belas karakteristik kontekstual manajemen keuangan di delapan keluarga Muslim diidentifikasi menggunakan metode Grounded Theory. Ciri-ciri ini digunakan untuk memverifikasi konsep utama—pengelolaan keuangan dasar, struktur keluarga, elemen Sakinah, dan bentuk sekularisme—riba. Penggunaan metode Grounded Theory juga merupakan tujuan lain dari penelitian ini yang menunjukkan kegunaannya untuk memperdalam keterkaitan antara keempat konsep utama dan karakteristik tersebut secara kontekstual. Beberapa keterbatasan muncul setelah analisis, dan ini memungkinkan rekomendasi untuk studi masa depan
