    The Color Dipole Picture of low-x DIS: Model-Independent and Model-Dependent Results

    We present a detailed examination of the color-dipole picture (CDP) of low-xx deep inelastic scattering. We discriminate model-independent results, not depending on a specific parameterization of the dipole cross section, from model-dependent ones. The model-independent results include the ratio of the longitudinal to the transverse photoabsorption cross section at large Q2Q^2, or equivalently the ratio of the longitudinal to the unpolarized proton structure function, FL(x,Q2)=0.27F2(x,Q2)F_L (x,Q^2)=0.27 F_2 (x, Q^2), as well as the low-xx scaling behavior of the total photoabsorption cross section σγp(W2,Q2)=σγp(η(W2,Q2))\sigma_{\gamma^*p} (W^2, Q^2)=\sigma_{\gamma^*p} (\eta (W^2, Q^2)) as log(1/η(W2,Q2))\log (1 / \eta (W^2, Q^2)) for η(W2,Q2)<1\eta (W^2, Q^2) <1, and as 1/η(W2,Q2)1/\eta (W^2, Q^2) for η(W2,Q2)1\eta (W^2, Q^2) \gg 1. Here, η(W2,Q2)\eta (W^2, Q^2) denotes the low-xx scaling variable, η(W2,Q2)=(Q2+m02)/Λsat2(W2)\eta (W^2, Q^2)=(Q^2 + m^2_0) / \Lambda^2_{sat} (W^2) with Λsat2(W2)\Lambda^2_{sat} (W^2) being the saturation scale. The model-independent analysis also implies limW2,Q2fixedσγp(W2,Q2)/σγp(W2)1\lim\limits_{W^2\rightarrow\infty, Q^2 {\rm fixed}} \sigma_{\gamma^*p} (W^2, Q^2) / \sigma_{\gamma p} (W^2) \rightarrow 1 at any Q2Q^2 for asymptotically large energy, WW. Consistency with pQCD evolution determines the underlying gluon distribution and the numerical value of C2=0.29C_2 = 0.29 in the expression for the saturation scale, Λ2(W2)(W2)C2\Lambda^2 (W^2) \sim (W^2)^{C_2}. In the model-dependent analysis, by restricting the mass of the actively contributing qqˉq \bar q fluctuations by an energy-dependent upper bound, we extend the validity of the color-dipole picture to xQ2/W20.1x \cong Q^2 / W^2 \le 0.1. The theoretical results agree with the world data on DIS for 0.036GeV2Q2316GeV20.036 {\rm GeV}^2 \le Q^2 \le 316 {\rm GeV}^2.Comment: 77 pages, 30 figure

    Observation of exotic meson production in the reaction πpηπp \pi^{-} p \to \eta^{\prime} \pi^- p at 18 GeV/c

    An amplitude analysis of an exclusive sample of 5765 events from the reaction πpηπp\pi^{-} p \to \eta^{\prime} \pi^- p at 18 GeV/c is described. The ηπ\eta^{\prime} \pi^- production is dominated by natural parity exchange and by three partial waves: those with JPC=1+,2++,J^{PC} = 1^{-+}, 2^{++}, and 4++4^{++}. A mass-dependent analysis of the partial-wave amplitudes indicates the production of the a2(1320)a_2(1320) meson as well as the a4(2040)a_4(2040) meson, observed for the first time decaying to ηπ\eta^{\prime}\pi^-. The dominant, exotic (non-qqˉ)q\bar{q}) 1+1^{-+} partial wave is shown to be resonant with a mass of 1.597±0.0100.010+0.0451.597 \pm 0.010^{+0.045}_{-0.010} GeV/c^2 and a width of 0.340±0.040±0.0500.340 \pm 0.040 \pm 0.050 GeV/c^2 . This exotic state, the π1(1600)\pi_1(1600), is produced with a tt dependence which is different from that of the a2(1320)a_2(1320) meson, indicating differences between the production mechanisms for the two states.Comment: 5 pages with 4 figure

    Vocabulary intervention for adolescents with language disorder: a systematic review

    Background: Language disorder and associated vocabulary difficulties can persist into adolescence, and can impact on long-term life outcomes. Previous reviews have shown that a variety of intervention techniques can successfully enhance students’ vocabulary skills; however, none has investigated vocabulary intervention specifically for adolescents with language disorder. Aims: To carry out a systematic review of the literature on vocabulary interventions for adolescents with language disorder. Methods & Procedures: A systematic search of 14 databases and other sources yielded 1320 studies, of which 13 met inclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria were: intervention effectiveness studies with a focus on enhancing oral receptive and/or expressive vocabulary skills in the study's aims; participants in the age range 11;0–16;11 with receptive and/or expressive language difficulties of any aetiology. Main Contribution: There was a high degree of diversity between studies. Types of intervention included: semantic intervention (four studies); comparison of phonological versus semantic intervention (two); and combined phonological–semantic intervention (seven). The strongest evidence for effectiveness was found with a combined phonological–semantic approach. The evidence suggested a potential for all models of delivery to be helpful (individual, small group and whole class). Conclusions & Implications: Tentative evidence is emerging for the effectiveness of a phonological–semantic approach in enhancing the vocabulary skills of adolescents who have language disorder. Future research needs to refine and develop the methodologies used in this diverse group of studies in order to replicate their findings and to build consensus

    Search for a dark vector gauge boson decaying to π+π\pi^+ \pi^- using ηπ+πγ\eta \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^- \gamma decays

    We report a search for a dark vector gauge boson UU^\prime that couples to quarks in the decay chain D+D0π+,D0KS0η,ηUγD^{*+} \to D^0 \pi^+, D^0 \to K^0_S \eta, \eta \to U^\prime \gamma, Uπ+πU^\prime \to \pi^+ \pi^-. No signal is found and we set a mass-dependent limit on the baryonic fine structure constant of 10310210^{-3} - 10^{-2} in the UU^\prime mass range of 290 to 520 MeV/c2c^2. This analysis is based on a data sample of 976 fb1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    Observation of D0ρ0γD^0\to \rho^0\gamma and search for CPCP violation in radiative charm decays

    We report the first observation of the radiative charm decay D0ρ0γD^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma and the first search for CPCP violation in decays D0ρ0γD^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma, ϕγ\phi\gamma, and K0γ\overline{K}{}^{*0} \gamma, using a data sample of 943 fb1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. The branching fraction is measured to be B(D0ρ0γ)=(1.77±0.30±0.07)×105\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma)=(1.77 \pm 0.30 \pm 0.07) \times 10^{-5}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The obtained CPCP asymmetries, ACP(D0ρ0γ)=+0.056±0.152±0.006\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \rho^0 \gamma)=+0.056 \pm 0.152 \pm 0.006, ACP(D0ϕγ)=0.094±0.066±0.001\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \phi \gamma)=-0.094 \pm 0.066 \pm 0.001, and ACP(D0K0γ)=0.003±0.020±0.000\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \overline{K}{}^{*0} \gamma)=-0.003 \pm 0.020 \pm 0.000, are consistent with no CPCP violation. We also present an improved measurement of the branching fractions B(D0ϕγ)=(2.76±0.19±0.10)×105\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \phi \gamma)=(2.76 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.10) \times 10^{-5} and B(D0K0γ)=(4.66±0.21±0.21)×104\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \overline{K}{}^{*0} \gamma)=(4.66 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.21) \times 10^{-4}

    Study of e+e- => B(*) B(*)-bar pi+- at sqrt(s)=10.866 GeV

    We report the analysis of the three-body e+e- => B B-bar pi, B B*-bar pi, and B* B*-bar pi processes, including the first observation of the Zb+-(10610) =>[B B*-bar+c.c.]+- and Zb+-(10650) => [B*B*-bar]+- transitions. We measure visible cross sections for the three-body production of sigma_vis(e+e- => [B B*-bar+c.c.]+-pi-+=(11.2+-1.0(stat.)+-1.2(syst.)) pb and sigma_vis(e+e- => [B*B*-bar]+-pi-+)=(5.61+-0.73(stat.)+-0.66(syst.)) pb and set a 90% C.L. upper limit of sigma_vis(e+e- => [BB-bar]+-pi-+)<2.1 pb. The results are based on a 121.4 1/fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(5S) peak.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure

    We report a search for the rare charmless decay B+K0K+B^+\rightarrow\overline{K}{}^{*0}K^{*+} using a data sample of 772×106772\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider.     Search for D0D^{0} decays to invisible final states at Belle

    We report the result from the first search for D0D^0 decays to invisible final states. The analysis is performed on a data sample of 924 fb1\rm{fb}^{-1} collected at and near the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) and Υ(5S)\Upsilon(5S) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. The absolute branching fraction is determined using an inclusive D0D^0 sample, obtained by fully reconstructing the rest of the particle system including the other charmed particle. No significant signal yield is observed and an upper limit of 9.4×1059.4\times 10^{-5} is set on the branching fraction of D0D^0 to invisible final states at 90\% confidence level.Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PRD(RC

    Observation of B0pΛˉD()B^{0} \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{(*)-}

    We report the first observation of the decays B0pΛˉD()B^0 \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{(*)-}. The data sample of 711711 fb1^{-1} used in this analysis corresponds to 772772 million BBˉB\bar{B} pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. We observe 19.8σ19.8\sigma and 10.8σ10.8\sigma excesses of events for the two decay modes and measure the branching fractions of B0pΛˉDB^0 \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{-} and B0pΛˉDB^0 \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{*-} to be (25.1±2.6±3.5)×106(25.1\pm2.6\pm3.5)\times10^{-6} and (33.6±6.3±4.4)×106(33.6\pm6.3\pm4.4)\times10^{-6}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are not compatible with the predictions based on the generalized factorization approach. In addition, a threshold enhancement in the di-baryon (pΛˉp\bar{\Lambda}) system is observed, consistent with that observed in similar BB decays.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures and 3 tables, submitted to PR
