Developing Business Acumen in Chinese Business School Graduates
This study assessed the importance of knowledge, skills, abilities (i.e., KSAs) and competencies for managerial success in China’s market economy. Business students at a major Chinese university were surveyed over a five year period, initially in 2001 and later in 2006, five years after China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Using Partial Least Squares (PLS), the explained variances in business acumen and social motivation skills were higher after China’s WTO entry. The results were reversed for communication skills. The results confirmed the predictive relevance of entrepreneurial behavior and adaptability in the model. Overall, the results suggest an enhanced appreciation for these KSAs after China’s WTO entry

Deep learning networks find unique mammographic differences in previous negative mammograms between interval and screen-detected cancers: a case-case study.
BackgroundTo determine if mammographic features from deep learning networks can be applied in breast cancer to identify groups at interval invasive cancer risk due to masking beyond using traditional breast density measures.MethodsFull-field digital screening mammograms acquired in our clinics between 2006 and 2015 were reviewed. Transfer learning of a deep learning network with weights initialized from ImageNet was performed to classify mammograms that were followed by an invasive interval or screen-detected cancer within 12 months of the mammogram. Hyperparameter optimization was performed and the network was visualized through saliency maps. Prediction loss and accuracy were calculated using this deep learning network. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) values were generated with the outcome of interval cancer using the deep learning network and compared to predictions from conditional logistic regression with errors quantified through contingency tables.ResultsPre-cancer mammograms of 182 interval and 173 screen-detected cancers were split into training/test cases at an 80/20 ratio. Using Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) density alone, the ability to correctly classify interval cancers was moderate (AUC = 0.65). The optimized deep learning model achieved an AUC of 0.82. Contingency table analysis showed the network was correctly classifying 75.2% of the mammograms and that incorrect classifications were slightly more common for the interval cancer mammograms. Saliency maps of each cancer case found that local information could highly drive classification of cases more than global image information.ConclusionsPre-cancerous mammograms contain imaging information beyond breast density that can be identified with deep learning networks to predict the probability of breast cancer detection
Effects of Concurrent Selection for Residual Feed Intake and Average Daily Gain on Fertility and Longevity in Black Angus Beef Females
Data from this analysis suggest that concurrent selection for both average daily gain and residual feed intake (RFI) may identify beef heifers that have improved fertility and longevity without impacting growth and maternal EPDs. As the beef industry continues to focus on sustainability, and thus efficiency, identification of commercial breeding stock that fit this mold will be imperative
Determining Community Attitudes and Preferences for Programs and Services
Planning programs may fail to accomplish their goals and objectives because they do not meet the needs of the population for which they are designed. Planners may be of different socioeconomic, regional, or ethnic backgrounds from those for whom they plan. They may perceive and evaluate important aspects of the environment differently from their clients. For these reasons, individuals who will be living and working in the environment to be designed or modified by planners should be encouraged to provide input into the development of plans which will affect their activities and enterprises. A means of assessing needs and values of the community ought to be incorporated into planning projects
Effect of Nicotine on Negative Affect Among More Impulsive Smokers
In the present study, the authors tested the hypothesis that nicotine would provide greater relief from negative affect for more impulsive smokers than for less impulsive smokers. Euthymic adult smokers (N = 70) participated in 2 laboratory sessions, during which they underwent a negative mood induction (music x autobiographical memory), then smoked either a nicotinized or de-nicotinized cigarette. Mixed-effects regression yielded a significant Impulsivity x Condition (nicotinized vs. de-nicotinized) x Time interaction. Simple effects analyses showed that heightened impulsivity predicted greater negative affect relief after smoking a nicotinized cigarette but not after smoking a de-nicotinized cigarette. These data suggest that nicotine may be a disproportionately powerful negative reinforcer for highly impulsive smokers, promoting higher levels of nicotine dependence and inhibiting smoking cessation
