    Training program influences the relation between functional and neuromuscular performance indicators during the season in young soccer players

    AbstractThe aim of this study was to investigate the influence of a training program on the relation between performance indicators of different physical capacities intra and inter functional and neuromuscular systems at different times of the season. Subjects were 16 young soccer players with an average age of 16.5±0.4 years. The study was carried out for 17 weeks, including three assessment moments (T1: 1st, T2: 10th and T3: 17th week). High correlation was found between indicators of neuromuscular predominance (30 meters sprint test (30m) and Maximum Sprint (MaxSprint) (RAST) in T1) (r=0.93, p≤0.001), functional (Sprints Average (MidSprint) and Minimal Sprint (MinSprint) (RAST) in T1, T2 and T3; MinSprint and Fatigue Index (FI) (RAST) in T3) (r=0.95, 0.85, 0.91; −0.86, p≤0.001, respectively) and between functional and neuromuscular indicators (30m and MidSprint in T1; 30m and MinSprint in T1; MaxSprint and MidSprint in T1 and T2 and MaxSprint and MinSprint in T1) (r=0.95, 0.93, 0.96, 0.84, 0.87, p≤0.001, respectively).     he European Grid Initiative (EGI) provides a sustainable pan-European Grid computing infrastructure for e-Science based on a network of regional and national Grids. The middleware driving this production infrastructure is constantly adapted to the changing needs of the EGI Community by deploying new features and phasing out other features and components that are no longer needed. Unlike previous e-Infrastructure projects, EGI does not develop its own middleware solution, but instead sources the required components from Technology Providers and integrates them in the Unified Middleware Distribution (UMD). In order to guarantee a high quality and reliable operation of the infrastructure, all UMD software must undergo a release process that covers the definition of the functional, performance and quality requirements, the verification of those requirements and testing in production environments

    Comparative complete scheme and booster effectiveness of COVID‐19 vaccines in preventing SARS‐CoV‐2 infections with SARS‐CoV‐2 Omicron (BA.1) and Delta (B.1.617.2) variants: A case–case study based on electronic health records

    Background: Information on vaccine effectiveness in a context of novel variants of concern (VOC) emergence is of key importance to inform public health policies. This study aimed to estimate a measure of comparative vaccine effectiveness between Omicron (BA.1) and Delta (B.1.617.2 and sub-lineages) VOC according to vaccination exposure (primary or booster). Methods: We developed a case-case study using data on RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2-positive cases notified in Portugal during Weeks 49-51, 2021. To obtain measure of comparative vaccine effectiveness, we compared the odds of vaccination in Omicron cases versus Delta using logistic regression adjusted for age group, sex, region, week of diagnosis, and laboratory of origin. Results: Higher odds of vaccination were observed in cases infected by Omicron VOC compared with Delta VOC cases for both complete primary vaccination (odds ratio [OR] = 2.1; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.8 to 2.4) and booster dose (OR = 5.2; 95% CI: 3.1 to 8.8), equivalent to reduction of vaccine effectiveness from 44.7% and 92.8%, observed against infection with Delta, to -6.0% (95% CI: 29.2% to 12.7%) and 62.7% (95% CI: 35.7% to 77.9%), observed against infection with Omicron, for complete primary vaccination and booster dose, respectively. Conclusion: Consistent reduction in vaccine-induced protection against infection with Omicron was observed.     Ocorrência de Contracaecum pelagicum (Johnston & Mawson 1942) (Nematoda: Anisakidae) em pinguim-de-magalhães (Spheniscus magellanicus (Forster, 1837)) coletado do nordeste do Brasil, com atualização de sua distribuição no país

    The study identified Contracaecum pelagicum (Johnston & Mawson 1942) as a parasite found in Sphenicus magellanicus (Forster, 1837), and a low sampling of infected hosts was observed, with a prevalence of 33.3%, average intensity of 6/host, and mean abundance of 2±3.46. This occurrence is uncommon in the Northeast region of Brazil, where previous records indicate a higher presence in the southern region of the country. This contributes to the understanding of the geographic distribution of the parasite. Anisakids, such as C. pelagicum, have a complex life cycle involving aquatic invertebrates, fishes, and seabirds. The presence of this parasite may indicate ecological interactions in the marine ecosystem of the region. It is important to report the discovery to relevant authorities and institutions to monitor and control the presence of the parasite. These findings are relevant to the health and conservation of seabirds and the study of marine ecosystems in Northeast Brazil.El estudio identificó a Contracaecum pelagicum (Johnston & Mawson 1942) como un parásito encontrado en Sphenicus magellanicus (Forster, 1837), y se observó una baja muestra de hospedadores infectados, con una prevalencia del 33,3%, intensidad media de 6/hospedador y abundancia media de 2±3,46. Esta ocurrencia es poco común en la región noreste de Brasil, donde los registros anteriores indican una mayor presencia en la región sur del país. Esto contribuye a la comprensión de la distribución geográfica del parásito. Los anisákidos, como C. pelagicum, tienen un ciclo de vida complejo que involucra invertebrados acuáticos, peces y aves marinas. La presencia de este parásito puede indicar interacciones ecológicas en el ecosistema marino de la región. Es importante informar el descubrimiento a las autoridades e instituciones pertinentes para monitorear y controlar la presencia del parásito.     Soroprevalência da doença de Chagas em escolares de dois municípios do Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais, Brasil, seis anos após a implantação da vigilância epidemiológica

    Six years after the beginning of the epidemiological surveillance of Chagas disease in Berilo and José Gonçalves de Minas, Jequitinhonha Valley, MG, Brazil, a serological inquiry was performed to observe whether the transmission of this endemy was occurring in this area. A randomized sample of 1,412 children seven to 14 years old, was screened. Six asymptomatic children were found to be positive, leading to 0.4% of prevalence. Hemoculture confirmed infection in five out of the six positive cases. Additional epidemiological investigation revealed important antecedents, such as disease reports in relatives and predisposing ecological and housing conditions. Our results demonstrated similar seroprevalence (0.4%) in schoolchildren, ranging from seven to 14 years old, and that were observed six years ago (0.2%) for children 0-9 year-old. Thus, considering the constant presence of Panstrogylus megistus in the peridomicile these findings emphasize the need of continuous improved epidemiological surveillance of Chagas disease in this region.Seis anos após o início da vigilância epidemiológica para doença de Chagas em Berilo e José Gonçalves de Minas, Vale do Jequitinhonha, MG, Brasil, foi realizado um inquérito sorológico para verificar se a transmissão desta endemia estava ocorrendo naquela área. Uma amostra aleatória de 1.412 crianças, de 7 a 14 anos, foi avaliada. Foram encontradas seis crianças positivas assintomáticas, totalizando uma prevalência de 0,4%. Hemocultura confirmou a infecção em cinco dos seis casos positivos. Uma investigação epidemiológica adicional, revelou importantes antecedentes, tais como: casos da doença em parentes e condições de moradia e ecológicas predisponentes. Nossos resultados demonstram uma soroprevalência similar (0,4%) em escolares de 7 a 14 anos àquela observada há seis anos (0,2%) em crianças de 0-9 anos. Dessa forma, considerando a presença constante de Panstrogylus megistus estes achados reforçam a necessidade de uma vigilância epidemiológica contínua e aperfeiçoada para Doença de Chagas naquela região

    AVALIAÇÃO DE FATORES EPIDEMIOLÓGICOS E SANITÁRIOS ASSOCIADOS À INFECÇÃO POR Cryptosporidium spp. EM CÃES DOMICILIADOS

    O gênero Cryptosporidium é composto por protozoários com grande capacidade de reprodução e disseminação. Sua transmissão pode ocorrer indiretamente pela ingestão de água e alimentos contaminados com oocistos viáveis ou diretamente entre animais, entre humanos ou entre animais e humanos. Em diversas partes do mundo, animais de companhia tem sido citados como fontes potenciais de infecção por Cryptosporidium spp. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a ocorrência da infecção por Cryptosporidium spp. em cães domiciliados na cidade do Recife, estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, bem como a associação da infecção com dados epidemiológicos e sanitários. Foram analisadas 97 amostras de fezes de caninos domiciliados, utilizando-se as técnicas de centrífugo-sedimentação em formol-éter com posterior coloração pelo método de Kinyoun. A análise estatística foi realizada por meio dos testes Qui-quadrado de Pearson e Exato de Fisher, com nível de significância de 5,0%.  Detectou-se positividade de 31,9% (31/97), tratando-se do primeiro registro de ocorrência da infecção por Cryptosporidium spp. na espécie canina no nordeste brasileiro, verificando-se associação significativa entre a taxa de infecção e a assistência médica veterinária, vacinação recebida e o tipo de ambiente de criação dos cães.     Comparative Effectiveness of COVID-19 Vaccines in Preventing Infections and Disease Progression from SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5 and BA.2, Portugal

    We estimated comparative primary and booster vaccine effectiveness (VE) of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5 and BA.2 lineages against infection and disease progression. During April-June 2022, we implemented a case-case and cohort study and classified lineages using whole-genome sequencing or spike gene target failure. For the case-case study, we estimated the adjusted odds ratios (aORs) of vaccination using a logistic regression. For the cohort study, we estimated VE against disease progression using a penalized logistic regression. We observed no reduced VE for primary (aOR 1.07 [95% CI 0.93-1.23]) or booster (aOR 0.96 [95% CI 0.84-1.09]) vaccination against BA.5 infection. Among BA.5 case-patients, booster VE against progression to hospitalization was lower than that among BA.2 case-patients (VE 77% [95% CI 49%-90%] vs. VE 93% [95% CI 86%-97%]).
