The semi-transparency property of smoke integrates it highly with the background contextual information in the image, which results in great visual differences in different areas. In addition, the limited annotation of smoke images from real forest scenarios brings more challenges for model training. In this paper, we design a semi-supervised learning strategy, named smokeaware consistency (SAC), to maintain pixel and context perceptual consistency in different backgrounds. Furthermore, we propose a smoke detection strategy with triple classification assistance for smoke and smoke-like object discrimination. Finally, we simplified the LFNet fire-smoke detection network to LFNet-v2, due to the proposed SAC and triple classification assistance that can perform the functions of some specific module. The extensive experiments validate that the proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art object detection algorithms on wildfire smoke datasets and achieves satisfactory performance under challenging weather conditions.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Kako bi se opisalo ponašanje prometa kolone vozila, koja se sastoji od autobusa i osobnih automobila na autocesti, u ovom članku je predložen prošireni model kolone vozila za promet u jednoj traci. Predloženi model razlikuje četiri vrste kombinacija kolona automobil-autobus, automobil-nakon-autobusa, autobus-nakon-autobusa, autobus-nakon-automobila i automobil-nakon-automobila. Četiri kombinacije uzimaju u obzir udaljenost, brzinu i ubrzavanje/usporavanje kolone. In order to describe car-following behaviour of traffic flow which is composed of buses and passenger cars on freeway, an extended car-following model is proposed for single lane traffic in this paper. The proposed model discriminates four types of car-bus following combination, car-following-bus, bus-following-bus, bus-following-car and car-following-car. The four combinations are considered in terms of following distance, following speed and following acceleration/deceleration. The proposed methodology is demonstrated using data collected from the combination of microwave radar detector and roadside laser detector on Xuanwu Avenue in the main urban area of Nanjing. Besides, the field data is divided into two data sets, one used for the training of the model, and the other for evaluation purpose. Gazis model and Edie model, the two most extensively used car-following models, are calibrated against the same training data sets and used as a reference benchmark. Finally, the performance of the model, proposed by this paper, was compared with the two classic models based on the evaluation data sets. The results show that buses have different characteristics and manoeuvrability compared with passenger cars. With the influence of buses in the car-following process, it could lead to uneven distribution of traffic flow on the lanes and become the main reason for traffic highway capacity decline. The model, proposed in this paper, is more accurate and stable when predicting acceleration/deceleration of different vehicles during car-following. It has better superiority to describe the car-following behaviours under the influence of bus on freeway

Capacity of Freeway Merge Areas with Different On-Ramp Traffic Flow

This paper is aimed at investigating the influence of different types of traffic flows on the capacity of freeway merge areas. Based on the classical gap-acceptance model, two calculating models were established specifically considering randomly arriving vehicles and individual difference in driving behaviours. Monte-Carlo simulation was implemented to reproduce the maximum traffic volume on the designed freeway merge area under different situations. The results demonstrated that the proposed calculating models have better performance than the conventional gap-acceptance theory on accurately predicting the capacity of freeway merge areas. The findings of research could be helpful to improve the microscopic traffic flow simulation model from a more practical perspective and support the designing of freeway merge areas as well

    Fine-grained Audible Video Description

We explore a new task for audio-visual-language modeling called fine-grained audible video description (FAVD). It aims to provide detailed textual descriptions for the given audible videos, including the appearance and spatial locations of each object, the actions of moving objects, and the sounds in videos. Existing visual-language modeling tasks often concentrate on visual cues in videos while undervaluing the language and audio modalities. On the other hand, FAVD requires not only audio-visual-language modeling skills but also paragraph-level language generation abilities. We construct the first fine-grained audible video description benchmark (FAVDBench) to facilitate this research. For each video clip, we first provide a one-sentence summary of the video, ie, the caption, followed by 4-6 sentences describing the visual details and 1-2 audio-related descriptions at the end. The descriptions are provided in both English and Chinese. We create two new metrics for this task: an EntityScore to gauge the completeness of entities in the visual descriptions, and an AudioScore to assess the audio descriptions. As a preliminary approach to this task, we propose an audio-visual-language transformer that extends existing video captioning model with an additional audio branch. We combine the masked language modeling and auto-regressive language modeling losses to optimize our model so that it can produce paragraph-level descriptions. We illustrate the efficiency of our model in audio-visual-language modeling by evaluating it against the proposed benchmark using both conventional captioning metrics and our proposed metrics. We further put our benchmark to the test in video generation models, demonstrating that employing fine-grained video descriptions can create more intricate videos than using captions.Comment: accpeted to CVPR 2023, Xuyang Shen, Dong Li and Jinxing Zhou contribute equally, code link: github.com/OpenNLPLab/FAVDBench, dataset link: www.avlbench.opennlplab.c

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Sucrose is the primary photosynthesis product and the principal translocating form within higher plants. <it>Sucrose transporters </it>(<it>SUC/SUT</it>) play a critical role in phloem loading and unloading. Photoassimilate transport is a major limiting factor for seed yield. Our previous research demonstrated that <it>SUT </it>co-localizes with yield-related quantitative trait loci. This paper reports the isolation of <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>alleles and their promoters and their association with yield-related traits.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Two novel <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>genes were isolated from <it>B. napus </it>lines 'Eagle' and 'S-1300' and designated as <it>BnA7.SUT1.a </it>and <it>BnA7.SUT1.b</it>, respectively. The BnA7.SUT1 protein exhibited typical SUT features and showed high amino acid homology with related species. Promoters of <it>BnA7.SUT1.a </it>and <it>BnA7.SUT1.b </it>were also isolated and classified as <it>pBnA7.SUT1.a </it>and <it>pBnA7.SUT1.b</it>, respectively. Four dominant sequence-characterized amplified region markers were developed to distinguish <it>BnA7.SUT1.a </it>and <it>BnA7.SUT1.b</it>. The two genes were estimated as alleles with two segregating populations (F2 and BC1) obtained by crossing '3715'×'3769'. <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>was mapped to the A7 linkage group of the TN doubled haploid population. <it>In silico </it>analysis of 55 segmental <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>alleles resulted three <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>clusters: <it>pBnA7.SUT1.a- BnA7.SUT1.a </it>(type I), <it>pBnA7.SUT1.b- BnA7.SUT1.a </it>(type II), and <it>pBnA7.SUT1.b- BnA7.SUT1.b </it>(type III). Association analysis with a diverse panel of 55 rapeseed lines identified single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in promoter and coding domain sequences of <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>that were significantly associated with one of three yield-related traits: number of effective first branches (EFB), siliques per plant (SP), and seed weight (n = 1000) (TSW) across all four environments examined. SNPs at other <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>sites were also significantly associated with at least one of six yield-related traits: EFB, SP, number of seeds per silique, seed yield per plant, block yield, and TSW. Expression levels varied over various tissue/organs at the seed-filling stage, and <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>expression positively correlated with EFB and TSW.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Sequence, mapping, association, and expression analyses collectively showed significant diversity between the two <it>BnA7.SUT1 </it>alleles, which control some of the phenotypic variation for branch number and seed weight in <it>B. napus </it>consistent with expression levels. The associations between allelic variation and yield-related traits may facilitate selection of better genotypes in breeding.</p

Genome-wide analysis of transcriptome and histone modifications in Brassica napus hybrid

Although utilization of heterosis has largely improved the yield of many crops worldwide, the underlying molecular mechanism of heterosis, particularly for allopolyploids, remains unclear. Here, we compared epigenome and transcriptome data of an elite hybrid and its parental lines in three assessed tissues (seedling, flower bud, and silique) to explore their contribution to heterosis in allopolyploid B. napus. Transcriptome analysis illustrated that a small proportion of non-additive genes in the hybrid compared with its parents, as well as parental expression level dominance, might have a significant effect on heterosis. We identified histone modification (H3K4me3 and H3K27me3) variation between the parents and hybrid, most of which resulted from the differences between parents. H3K4me3 variations were positively correlated with gene expression differences among the hybrid and its parents. Furthermore, H3K4me3 and H3K27me3 were rather stable in hybridization and were mainly inherited additively in the B. napus hybrid. Together, our data revealed that transcriptome reprogramming and histone modification remodeling in the hybrid could serve as valuable resources for better understanding heterosis in allopolyploid crops

Interfacial-hybridization-modified Ir Ferromagnetism and Electronic Structure in LaMnO3_3/SrIrO3_3 Superlattices

Artificially fabricated 3dd/5dd superlattices (SLs) involve both strong electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling in one material by means of interfacial 3dd-5dd coupling, whose mechanism remains mostly unexplored. In this work we investigated the mechanism of interfacial coupling in LaMnO3_3/SrIrO3_3 SLs by several spectroscopic approaches. Hard x-ray absorption, magnetic circular dichroism and photoemission spectra evidence the systematic change of the Ir ferromagnetism and the electronic structure with the change of the SL repetition period. First-principles calculations further reveal the mechanism of the SL-period dependence of the interfacial electronic structure and the local properties of the Ir moments, confirming that the formation of Ir-Mn molecular orbital is responsible for the interfacial coupling effects. The SL-period dependence of the ratio between spin and orbital components of the Ir magnetic moments can be attributed to the realignment of electron spin during the formation of the interfacial molecular orbital. Our results clarify the nature of interfacial coupling in this prototypical 3dd/5dd SL system and the conclusion will shed light on the study of other strongly correlated and spin-orbit coupled oxide hetero-interfaces
