Purpose: To study the effects of various dexmedetomidine (DEX) doses on post-surgical emergence agitation (EA) and oxidative stress in children. Methods: At various times, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were measured: prior to anesthesia (T0), during intubation (T1), at onset of operation (T2), and at the end of surgery (T3). The incidence of post-surgical EA was estimated, and the extent of agitation were determined based on pediatric anesthesia emergence delirium (PAED). Post-surgical pain was determined using facial pain scale (FPS). Serum levels of cortisol (Cor), epinephrine (E), and norepinephrine (NE) were quantified at T0 and T3. Extubation time and awakening time, as well as postoperative complications were recorded. Results: At T1, T2 and T3, levels of HR and MAP were significantly increased in all three groups, when compared to the corresponding values at T0, with group C having peak values, followed by A and B. Group B had a lower incidence of EA than groups A and C, but EA incidence was lower in group A than in group C. The lowest scores for PAED and FPS were in group B (p < 0.05). Blood levels of Cor, E and NE at T0 were comparable amongst the three groups. However, at T3, serum levels of these parameters were lower in group B than in each of the other 2 groups. Conclusion: At a dose of 0.5 Ī¼g/kg, DEX effectively reduces the incidence of post-surgical EA, improves hemodynamics, and alleviates oxidative stress responses in pediatric anesthesia

Since the reform and opening up policy, the higher educational service industry in Guangdong Province has made remarkable achievements with the systematical analysis of the implement of the ā€œIntroduce inā€ and ā€œgo-abroadā€ strategy, which shows that the opening degree of higher educational obviously lags to the development of local economy and society, seriously affecting the construction of talent highland. To research further, this paper will offer some suggestions, which can be concluded in: insisting on the policy of ā€œIntroduce inā€ and ā€œGoing-abroadā€; actively promoting the ā€œB&Rā€ strategy; believing in the balance of overall consideration and the focus of promoting; constantly improving the competitiveness of higher education and enlarging the scale of foreign studentsā€™ recruitment

    Pulsar Polarization Arrays

Pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) consisting of widely distributed and well-timed millisecond pulsars can serve as a galactic interferometer to measure gravitational waves. With the same data acquired for PTAs, we propose to develop pulsar polarization arrays (PPAs), to explore astrophysics and fundamental physics. As in the case of PTAs, PPAs are best suited to reveal temporal and spatial correlations at large scales that are hard to mimic by local noise. To demonstrate the physical potential of PPAs, we consider detection of ultralight axion-like dark matter (ALDM), through cosmic birefringence induced by its Chern-Simon coupling. Because of its tiny mass, the ultralight ALDM can be generated as a Bose-Einstein condensate, characterized by a strong wavy nature. Incorporating both temporal and spatial correlations of the signal, we show that PPAs have a potential to probe the Chern-Simon coupling up to āˆ¼10āˆ’14āˆ’10āˆ’17\sim 10^{-14}-10^{-17}GeVāˆ’1^{-1}, with a mass range āˆ¼10āˆ’27āˆ’10āˆ’21\sim 10^{-27} - 10^{-21}eV.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures; comments welcom

Dynamic characteristic analysis of two-stage quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolation system

A novel two-stage quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) vibration isolator was proposed for the purpose of low-frequency vibration isolation. Firstly, the dynamic model of the vibration isolation system was established; furthermore, the force transmissibility of the system under harmonic force excitation was derived by the averaging method; finally, the effects on the vibration isolation performance caused by excitation amplitude, mass ratio and damping ratio were discussed. Results show that, compared with the corresponding two-stage linear system, two-stage QZS system not only has better isolation performance, but also possesses a wider range of isolation frequency provided that the excitation amplitude, mass ratio and damping ratio is appropriate
