    The Effects of Hunger Marketing in Scarcity products

    [[abstract]]Hunger marketing is a marketing strategy where goods suppliers deliberately limit product supply to achieve excess demand. This research paper primarily investigated the varying impacts of Jordon shoes (tangible goods) and travelling to the Maldives (intangible goods) on the variables of the various dimensions of hunger marketing. This researchalso focused on the relationships between hunger marketing; knowledge exchange motivation, opportunities, and ability; involvement; epistemic value; purchase intention; WOM; and the interference caused by Jordon shoes, travelling to the Maldives, and financial status. This research adopted structural equation modelling (SEM) to construct the research framework. The researchers collaborated with a survey company to distribute the questionnaires, of which 975 were recovered. The analytical methods were employed to verify the collected data such as factor loading, t-value, AVE, Cronbach’s α being consistent with the hypotheses set by the aims of this research.     Abstract Background This population-based study was designed to investigate whether consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) is associated with lower serum total testosterone concentration in men 20–39 years old. Methods All data for this study were retrieved from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2012. The primary outcome was serum testosterone concentration, and main independent variable was SSB intake. Other variables included age, race/ethnicity, poverty/income ratio, body mass index (BMI), serum cotinine, heavy drinking, and physical activity. Results Among all subjects (N = 545), 486 (90.4%) had normal testosterone levels (defined as ≥231 ng/dL) and 59 (9.6%) had low testosterone levels (defined as < 231 ng/dL). Multivariate logistic regression revealed the odds of low testosterone was significantly greater with increasing SSB consumption (Q4 [≥442 kcal/day] vs. Q1 [≤137 kcal/day]), adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 2.29, p = 0.041]. After adjusting for possible confounding variables, BMI was an independent risk factor for low testosterone level; subjects with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2 had a higher risk of having a low testosterone level than those with BMI < 25 kg/m2 (aOR = 3.68, p = 0.044). Conclusion SSB consumption is significantly associated with low serum testosterone in men 20–39 years old in the United States

    Macrophages-derived p38α promotes the experimental severe acute pancreatitis by regulating inflammation and autophagy

    Abstract(#br)Background(#br)Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is a common threat to human health. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms by which p38α in macrophages contributes to SAP. We used conditional knockout of p38α in macrophages and p38 MAPK inhibitors to understand the effects of p38α in macrophages on caerulein-induced inflammatory responses in SAP mice models.(#br)Methods and materials(#br)Wild-type (WT) mice were randomly divided into three groups: a control group, SAP group, and SAP + p38MAPK inhibitor (SB203580) group, and mice with a conditional knockout (KO) of p38α in macrophages were included in a KO + SAP group. We evaluated pancreatic pathology and ultra-structure by hematoxylin and eosin staining and transmission electron microscopy. The pulmonary wet-to-dry weight ratio was calculated. The serum levels of TNF-α and IL-1β were determined by ELISA. The mRNA and protein expression of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-17, IL-18, MIF, and MCP-1 in pancreatic tissues were tested by qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry analysis. The protein expression of p38, caspase-1, ULK1, LC3B and p62 in pancreatic tissues was examined by Western blotting.(#br)Results(#br)The results indicated that the severity of SAP as well as the expression of the cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-17, IL-18 and MCP-1 were higher in the SAP group than those in the control group, but were lower in the SAP + SB203580 and KO + SAP groups as compared with the SAP group. The protein expression of p38, caspase-1, LC3B and p62 was increased in the SAP group than that in the control group, but this result was reversed in the SAP + SB203580 and KO + SAP groups as compared with the SAP group. In addition, the ULK1 level was significantly lower in the SAP group than that in the control group, but was increased in the SAP + SB203580 and KO + SAP groups as compared with the SAP group.(#br)Conclusions(#br)Our findings demonstrated that, macrophage derived p38α promoted the experimental severe acute pancreatitis by regulating inflammation and autophagy

    Discontinuous moving shot technique for conformal thermal ablation in an ex vivo porcine liver model

    PURPOSEWe aimed to determine the ablation characteristics of discontinuous moving shot technique (DMST) in microwave ablation (MWA), radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and laser ablation (LA), and analyze the differences compared with fixed electrode technique (FET) in an ex vivo porcine liver model.METHODSFET was defined as the ablation needle remaining fixed during ablation. In DMST, ablation needle moved backward for a fixed distance twice along the long axis during ablation. Four moving distances (0.5 cm, 0.75 cm, 1 cm and 2 cm) were used in DMST. Long-axis diameter (LAD) and short-axis diameter (SAD) of ablation zones were measured. The ratio of LAD/SAD was calculated.RESULTSThe shape and size of ablation zones were different between DMST and FET. Compared with FET, DMST could achieve greater LAD when the moving distance became long enough. In MWA with DMST, SAD decreased with the extension of moving distance and finally became smaller than the SAD in FET. While in LA and RFA, the change of moving distance did not affect SAD significantly.CONCLUSIONIn MWA, RFA and LA, the characteristics of ablation zone of DMST were different from that of FET. This unique ablation technique may be suitable for conformal thermal ablation

    Clinicopathological characteristics and survival outcomes in Paget disease: a SEER populationâ based study

    The objective of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and survival outcomes of Paget disease (PD), Paget disease concomitant infiltrating duct carcinoma (PDâ IDC), and Paget disease concomitant intraductal carcinoma (PDâ DCIS). We identified 501,631 female patients from 2000 to 2013 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. These identified patients included patients with PD (n = 469), patients with PDâ IDC (n = 1832), and patients with PDâ DCIS (n = 1130) and infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC) (n = 498,076). Then, we compared the clinical characteristics of these patients with those who were diagnosed with IDC during the same period. The outcomes of these subtypes of breast carcinoma were different. Based on the overall survival, the patients with PDâ IDC had the worst prognosis (5â year survival rate = 84.1%). The PDâ DCIS had the best prognosis (5â year survival rate = 97.5%). Besides, among patients with Paget disease, the one who was married had a better prognosis than who were not. And, according to our research, the marital status was associated with the hormone receptor status in patients with PDâ IDC. Among three subtypes of Paget disease, patients with PDâ IDC had the worst prognosis. Besides, patients who were unmarried had worse outcomes. And the marital status of patients with PDâ IDC is associated with hormone status. The observation underscores the importance of individualized treatment.Patients with PDâ IDC have the worst prognosis. And the marital status of PDâ IDC patients is associated with hormone status and HER2 status.     Return of 4U~1730--22 after 49 years silence: the peculiar burst properties of the 2021/2022 outbursts observed by Insight-HXMT

    After in quiescence for 49 years, 4U~1730--22 became active and had two outbursts in 2021 \& 2022; ten thermonuclear X-ray bursts were detected with Insight-HXMT. Among them, the faintest burst showed a double-peaked profile, placing the source as the 5th accreting neutron star (NS) exhibiting double/triple-peaked type-I X-ray bursts; the other bursts showed photospheric radius expansion (PRE). The properties of double-peaked non-PRE burst indicate that it could be related to a stalled burning front. For the five bright PRE bursts, apart from the emission from the neutron star (NS) surface, we find the residuals both in the soft (10 keV) X-ray band. Time-resolved spectroscopy reveals that the excess can be attributed to an enhanced pre-burst/persistent emission or the Comptonization of the burst emission by the corona/boundary-layer. We find, the burst emission shows a rise until the photosphere touches down to the NS surface rather than the theoretical predicted constant Eddington luminosity. The shortage of the burst emission in the early rising phase is beyond the occlusion by the disk. We speculate that the findings above correspond to that the obscured part (not only the lower part) of the NS surface is exposed to the line of sight due to the evaporation of the obscured material by the burst emission, or the burst emission is anisotropic (ξ>1\xi>1) in the burst early phase. In addition, based on the average flux of PRE bursts at their touch-down time, we derive a distance estimation as 10.4 kpc.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2208.13556; text overlap with arXiv:2208.1212

    Water-Soluble Humic Materials Regulate Quorum Sensing in Sinorhizobium meliloti Through a Novel Repressor of expR

    Quorum sensing (QS) plays an important role in the growth, nodulation, and nitrogen fixation of rhizobia. In this study, we show that water-soluble humic materials (WSHM) repress the expression of the QS related genes sinI, sinR, and expR in Sinorhizobium meliloti. This decreased the production of N-acetyl homoserine lactones (AHL) and exopolysaccharides (EPS), and ultimately increased S. meliloti cell density. We also identified a novel regulator, SMc03890 (renamed QsrR), which binds directly to the expR promoter. Deletion of qsrR increased expR expression. WSHM repressed the expression of expR by augmenting the interaction between QsrR and the expR promoter; this was determined by a bacterial-one-hybrid assay. These effects of WSHM on the QS system in S. meliloti may be the underlying mechanism by which WSHM increase the symbiotic nitrogen fixation of Medicago sativa inoculated with S. meliloti. This study provides the first evidence that humic acids regulate the QS of rhizobia and suggests that WSHM could be used as fertilizers to improve the efficiency of symbiotic nitrogen fixation
