Distributed Management of Massive Data: an Efficient Fine-Grain Data Access Scheme
This paper addresses the problem of efficiently storing and accessing massive
data blocks in a large-scale distributed environment, while providing efficient
fine-grain access to data subsets. This issue is crucial in the context of
applications in the field of databases, data mining and multimedia. We propose
a data sharing service based on distributed, RAM-based storage of data, while
leveraging a DHT-based, natively parallel metadata management scheme. As
opposed to the most commonly used grid storage infrastructures that provide
mechanisms for explicit data localization and transfer, we provide a
transparent access model, where data are accessed through global identifiers.
Our proposal has been validated through a prototype implementation whose
preliminary evaluation provides promising results
Supersymmetric Boost on Intersecting D-branes
We study the effect of the Born-Infeld electric field on the supersymmetric
configuration of various composite D-branes. We show that the generic values of
the electric field do not affect the supersymmetry but, as it approaches
keeping the magnetic field finite, various combinations of the
magnetic fields allow up to 8 supersymmetries. We also explore the unbroken
supersymmetries for two intersecting D-strings which are in uniform or relative
motion. For a finite uniform Lorentz boost, 16 supersymmetries are guaranteed
only when they are parallel. For an infinite one, 8 supersymmetries are
preserved only when both the D-strings are oriented to the forward or backward
direction of the boost. Under a finite relative boost, 8 supersymmetries are
preserved only when the intersecting angle is less than and the
intersecting point moves at the speed of light. As for an infinite relative
boost, 8 supersymmetries are preserved regardless of the values of the

A Symmetry-induced Model of Elliptical Galaxy Patterns
S\'ersic (1968) generalized the de Vaucouleurs law which follows the
projected (observed) one dimensional radial profile of elliptical galaxies
closely and Dehnen (1993) proposed an analytical formula of the 3-dimensional
light distributions whose projected line profile resembles the de Vaucouleurs
law. This paper is involved to recover the Dehnen model and generalize the
model to account for galaxy elliptical shapes by means of curvilinear
coordinate systems and employing a symmetry principle. The symmetry principle
maps an orthogonal coordinate system to a light distribution pattern. The
coordinate system for elliptical galaxy patterns turns out to be the one which
is formed by the complex-plane reciprocal transformation . The resulting
spatial (3-dimensional) light distribution is spherically symmetric and has
infinite gradient at its centre, which is called spherical-nucleus solution and
is used to model galaxy central area. We can make changes of the coordinate
system by cutting out some column areas of its definition domain, the areas
containing the galaxy centre. The resulting spatial (3-dimensional) light
distributions are axisymmetric or triaxial and have zero gradient at the
centre, which are called elliptical-shape solutions and are used to model
global elliptical patterns. The two types of logarithmic light distributions
are added together to model full elliptical galaxy patterns. The model is a
generalization of the Dehnen model. One of the elliptical-shape solutions
permits realistic numerical calculation and is fitted to all R-band elliptical
images from the Frei {\it et al.}(1996)'s galaxy sample. The fitting is
satisfactory. This suggests that elliptical galaxy patterns can be represented
in terms of a few basic parameters.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figure
Quantum algebra in the mixed light pseudoscalar meson states
In this paper, we investigate the entanglement degrees of pseudoscalar meson
states via quantum algebra Y(su(3)). By making use of transition effect of
generators J of Y(su(3)), we construct various transition operators in terms of
J of Y(su(3)), and act them on eta-pion-eta mixing meson state. The
entanglement degrees of both the initial state and final state are calculated
with the help of entropy theory. The diagrams of entanglement degrees are
presented. Our result shows that a state with desired entanglement degree can
be achieved by acting proper chosen transition operator on an initial state.
This sheds new light on the connect among quantum information, particle physics
and Yangian algebra.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally

Antiferromagnetic Domains and Superconductivity in UPt3
We explore the response of an unconventional superconductor to spatially
inhomogeneous antiferromagnetism (SIAFM). Symmetry allows the superconducting
order parameter in the E-representation models for UPt3 to couple directly to
the AFM order parameter. The Ginzburg-Landau equations for coupled
superconductivity and SIAFM are solved numerically for two possible SIAFM
configurations: (I) abutting antiferromagnetic domains of uniform size, and
(II) quenched random disorder of `nanodomains' in a uniform AFM background. We
discuss the contributions to the free energy, specific heat, and order
parameter for these models. Neither model provides a satisfactory account of
experiment, but results from the two models differ significantly. Our results
demonstrate that the response of an E_{2u} superconductor to SIAFM is strongly
dependent on the spatial dependence of AFM order; no conclusion can be drawn
regarding the compatibility of E_{2u} superconductivity with UPt3 that is
independent of assumptions on the spatial dependence of AFMComment: 12 pages, 13 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons
The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and
Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample
of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with
the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the
decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 ->
\~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and
BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching
fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X)
< 6.6%
