Evaluating current authentication methods: Prediction of a more suitable authentication approach for public interaction

    Get PDF
The trend in information technology is towards achieving ubiquitous service rendering where barriers (geographical, time) in getting information related services will be eliminated. A good example of this is the ATM machines used by banks for public banking services, the likes in other sectors are currently on the way. This paper explores the user’s perception on the current identity authentication (Token-based and Knowledgebased) with a view to predict a more secured authentication for authentication in public places.A survey study is conducted so as to justify the claims of the previous authors on the need to migrate from the conventional knowledge-based and tokenbased authentication methods to a more secured biometric authentication approach which makes impossible user’s impersonation, and thus minimizing fraud, particularly in business transactions. Also, biometrical identification was also reviewed with respect to the all known biometric identifiers where human iris data was revealed to be the best human trait that can be used for identification/authentication purposes in public zone

AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR DETECTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF SPAMBOT WITH ACTION SESSION AND LENGTH FREQUENCY

    Get PDF
We propose an integrated system for detection and identification of spambot with action session and length frequency basedon the notion of control-flow graph, which models interactions of the end-user’s machine and browser with the Web site, and assists a lot in detecting possible anomalies. User’s interaction with the web is premised on Document Object Model(DOM) Events since the DOM forms a representation of the Web page which shows acceptance of asynchronous input fromthe user. The DOM is a platform-independent, event-driven interface which accepts input from the user and allows programsand scripts to access and update the content of the page. Proof of concept will be established by deploying the DOMantiSpambot as an add-on for Mozilla Firefox using JavaScript. Keywords: Antispam, DOM, detection, frequency, Action Session, Browsers and Web

Is this Love? A Study of Deception in Online Romance in Nigeria

    Get PDF
This work is a study of the interplay of online romance and deception among the users of social networking sites (SNS) in Nigeria, with a focus on how to avoid fake Internet love. The Interpersonal Deception theory underpinned the work while 369 copies of questionnaire were administered online to a sample drawn from a list of friends of four individual Facebook accounts, totaling 8763 participants. Findings exposed the prevalence of online romance deception and showed that users relied on a number of cues to detect deception, including verification from online friends. Inconsistencies during interactions have proved to be a good way of detecting fake lovers but it appears face-to-face meetings still hold the ace for genuine love

Active vibration control of a beam with piezoelectric patches: real-time implementation with xPC target

    Get PDF
Active control of a vibrating beam using smart materials such as piezoelectric materials is examined in this paper. A model based on Euler-Bernoulli beam equation has been developed and then extended with bonded three piezoelectric patches which act as sensor, actuator and exciter. The sensor and actuator are collocated to achieve a minimum phase. The aim of this research work is to control the first three resonant modes. To achieve this, a compensated inverse PID controller is developed and tuned to damp these modes using MATLAB. The designed controller for damping each mode is then combined in parallel to damp any of the three modes. Finally, the simulation results are verified experimentally and the real-time implementation is carried out with xPC target toolbox in MATLAB

A SHETTLE’S METHOD MODEL FOR AUTOMATING PRECONCEPTION SEX SELECTION

    Get PDF
The world over, and especially in Africa and Asia, couples show a preference for particular sex of children; eithermale or female. This preference may arise due to economic reasons, customs of the people, or simply for a “genderbalanced family”. Whatever the reasons, the fact still remains that couples would like to be able to choose the sex oftheir children. While there are various options to achieve sex selection, all of them are either too expensive or tooinvasive. This paper presents how Shettles’ method being the least expensive and the most reliable method ofpreconception sex selection was modeled to enable automation. The results show that it is a more consistent andreliable method for gender selection. In addition, the result also shows that the Shettles’ method lends itselffavourably to computer programming and would be very useful in the lives of couples that desire a particular genderof offspring. Keywords: Computer assisted, Preconception, Sex selection, Model, Programming

Blog has take an important aspect of internet since the introduction of Web 2.0 technology because blog as been away to influence others who read the blogs. People now have interest in finding materials and friends on the internet. Many users visit blog sites to read the posts and comment on them. Most people do read blog to gather informationon things that are important before take major decision about them. Because blogger always share their experienceon a topic for others to comments and through this others share their own experience. With the impact thatinfluential blogger have in a community. The benefits of achieving competitive advantages in a blog community byidentify influential blogger have created several research gaps and the popularity of these services has make theproblem of identifying the most influential bloggers significant, since its solution can lead to major benefits for theusers of this services i.e. education, politic, participatory journalism, advertising, searching, commerce etc. Thecurrent works in this regard ignore some important aspects of the blogsphere. This paper focuses on using acrossbreed method as an improvement to the existing methodologies. With the introduction of new parametersFBCount and Mining Comments the new approach show that the score of each blog post reflect quality andgoodness of blog post. A program prototype was designed to calculate the influential bloggers. The results obtainedconfirm that current approach could significantly identify influential of bloggers on the web and the proposed modelhas better performance than other approaches. There are still a few of avenues for the future research. Future workcan include full implementation of the program prototype and try to improve on it to directly get the parameters usedfrom the blog post on the web in a blog community, more parameters like twitter shares, G+1s Pin shares etc can beincluded into the literature and check for the behavior of the influence and future research can investigate more timein deciding weight parameter that is crucial for tuning between different influential factors.Keyword: Blog, Blogger, Social networks, Blogosphere, Influential bloggers, Influential, Models

Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) Based Orthogonal Transform Approach for Earth's Electric Field Signal Processing

    Get PDF
The Earth's electric field signal is generated from the released energy through a sudden dislocation of the segment in the earth's crust. Many researchers have reported the use of parametric modeling technique for earth's electric field signal processing. The existing earth's electric signal processing based on parametric modeling technique has suffered from the noise. Therefore, the effective earth's electric field signal processing is necessary in order to process the signal with better performance for the identification. Singular value decomposition (SVD) based parametric modeling technique is applied as feature extraction technique to the Earth's electric field signal. The projection of excitation signal on the right eigenvector of the LPC filter impulse response matrix is involved in this technique. The combination of SVD-based parametric modeling technique has perfectly classified the significant Earth's electric field data prior to the earthquake and the Earth's electric field data on the normal condition after the polynomial kernel function is applied

Development of mechatronics engineering degree program: challenges and prospects

    Get PDF
It is now becoming common practice to include some courses in mechatronics in the traditional electrical and mechanical engineering programs. Whilst many engineering faculties have realized the need for a full-fledged multidisciplinary mechatronics engineering program, only in very few places have such programs been developed along the lines of other engineering programs. The justification for the mechatronics engineering program becomes evident, as today's engineers must be acquainted with subjects that are not taught or given much emphasis in the traditional engineering curriculum. A good knowledge in those subjects, is however required if our graduate engineers are to be relevant to industry with time. The challenges in developing such program in terms of curriculum planning, laboratory facility needs and staff requirements are discussed in this paper. Whilst there are immense advantages of such a discipline, its success depends on a balanced curriculum with good laboratory facilities and appropriate industrial links, positive attitudes and well-oriented academic staff as well as students having the ability to cope with diversified subjects

Application of ARMA modeling to multicomponent signals

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the problem of estimating the parameters of a multicomponent signal observed in noise. The process is modeled las a special nonstationary autoregressive moving average (ARMA) process. The parameters of the multicomponent signal are determined from the spectral estimate of the ARMA model The spectral lines are closely spaced and the ARMA model must be determined from very short data records. Two high-resolution ARMA algorithms are developed for determining the spectral estimates. The first ARMA algorithm modifies the extended Prony method to account for the nonstationary aspects of noise in the model. For comPonents signals with good signal to noise ratio (SNR) this algorithm provides excellent results, but for a lower SNR the performance degrades resulting in a loss in resolution. The second algorithm is based on the work of Cadzow. The algorithm presented overcomes the difficulties of Cadzow's and Kaye's algorithms and provides the coefficients for the complete model not just the spen ral estimate. This algorithm performs well in resolving multicomponent signals when the SNR is low

Time Domain Feature Extraction Technique for earth's electric field signal prior to the Earthquake

    Get PDF
Earthquake is one of the most destructive of natural disasters that killed many people and destroyed a lot of properties. By considering these catastrophic effects, it is highly important of knowing ahead of earthquakes in order to reduce the number of victims and material losses. Earth's electric field is one of the features that can be used to predict earthquakes (EQs), since it has significant changes in the amplitude of the signal prior to the earthquake. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the earth’s electric field due to earthquakes which occurred in Greece, between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008. In that period of time, 13 earthquakes had occurred. 6 of them were recorded with magnitudes greater than Ms= 5R (5R), while 7 of them were recorded with magnitudes greater than Ms= 6R (6R). Time domain feature extraction technique is applied to analyze the 1st significant changes in the earth’s electric field prior to the earthquake. Two different time domain feature extraction techniques are applied in this work, namely Simple Square Integral (SSI) and Root Mean Square (RMS). The 1st significant change of the earth's electric field signal in each of monitoring sites is extracted using those two techniques. The feature extraction result can be used as input parameter for an earthquake prediction system
