BREVES NOTAS ACERCA DE PACHACAMAC

Pachacamac ofrece una larga historia de ocupación humana. La más antigua, lo constituyen unas gentes portadoras del tipo de materiales culturales que denominamos Maranga. Estas gentes hacían edificios ceremoniales complicados, la base de adobitos pequeños modelados a mano y dispuestos en forma vertical para formar muros. Frente a las instalaciones del Museo de Sitio y Cafetería, se excavó en 1964-65, una de las varias estructuras Maranga que hay en el sitio. El resultado fue la aparición de un templete con un recinto rectangular central, que presentaba una especie de terraza, donde estaban implantados unos maderos, quizás para sostener una ramada. Este recinto central se comunicaba con el exterior por un pequeño vano que fungía de puerta. Le rodean depósitos hacia el Este y hacia el Oeste un patio central dividido por un muro central. Uno de los espacios presenta una doble hilera de maderos implantados en el piso, colocados uno frente al otro; éstos también deben haber sostenido un techo. Los enlucidos de muros y pisos son magníficos, conservándose un buen ejemplo de ellos

The Athena X-ray Integral Field Unit: a consolidated design for the system requirement review of the preliminary definition phase

The Athena X-ray Integral Unit (X-IFU) is the high resolution X-ray spectrometer studied since 2015 for flying in the mid-30s on the Athena space X-ray Observatory. Athena is a versatile observatory designed to address the Hot and Energetic Universe science theme, as selected in November 2013 by the Survey Science Committee. Based on a large format array of Transition Edge Sensors (TES), X-IFU aims to provide spatially resolved X-ray spectroscopy, with a spectral resolution of 2.5 eV (up to 7 keV) over a hexagonal field of view of 5 arc minutes (equivalent diameter). The X-IFU entered its System Requirement Review (SRR) in June 2022, at about the same time when ESA called for an overall X-IFU redesign (including the X-IFU cryostat and the cooling chain), due to an unanticipated cost overrun of Athena. In this paper, after illustrating the breakthrough capabilities of the X-IFU, we describe the instrument as presented at its SRR (i.e. in the course of its preliminary definition phase, so-called B1), browsing through all the subsystems and associated requirements. We then show the instrument budgets, with a particular emphasis on the anticipated budgets of some of its key performance parameters, such as the instrument efficiency, spectral resolution, energy scale knowledge, count rate capability, non X-ray background and target of opportunity efficiency. Finally, we briefly discuss the ongoing key technology demonstration activities, the calibration and the activities foreseen in the X-IFU Instrument Science Center, touch on communication and outreach activities, the consortium organisation and the life cycle assessment of X-IFU aiming at minimising the environmental footprint, associated with the development of the instrument. Thanks to the studies conducted so far on X-IFU, it is expected that along the design-to-cost exercise requested by ESA, the X-IFU will maintain flagship capabilities in spatially resolved high resolution X-ray spectroscopy, enabling most of the original X-IFU related scientific objectives of the Athena mission to be retained. The X-IFU will be provided by an international consortium led by France, The Netherlands and Italy, with ESA member state contributions from Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, with additional contributions from the United States and Japan.The French contribution to X-IFU is funded by CNES, CNRS and CEA. Espacio y territorios: razón, pasión e imaginarios

En este caleidoscopio de acercamientos hacia lo espacial y territorial, las visiones se mueven desde aquellas románticas y existencialistas, pasando por aquellas objetivistas y positivistas, hasta las estructuralistas y postestructuralistas. Por el espacio y el territorio se interesan con enfoques diversos numerosas disciplinas, desde la psicología, la etología o la literatura, y las ciencias naturales como la biología o la ecología, hasta las ciencias sociales y políticas, como la geografía, la antropología, la economía y la sociología. Este interés multidisciplinario demuestra la importancia y la complejidad del tema espacial y territorial, y reclama la necesidad de su estudio y comprensión interdisciplinarios, como se intenta con esta publicación

Monitoring of air quality and indoor environment inrooms occupied by houseplants

The present paper describes an experimental test to identify the possible influences that the presence of plant species may have on the environmental quality of indoor spaces. For this purpose, a selection of houseplants with high air purification capacities was made based on existing literature (Sansevieria, Poto, Spathiphyllum, Ficus Benjamina, Kentia and Areca). Two adjacent rooms within an experimental building were used as test cells. The two rooms have similar characteristics. One room was occupied with the plants and the other was left empty. The test was conducted without human presence, except for maintenance tasks. Indoor environmental quality variables (T, RH and CO2) were recorded every 10 minutes during the whole period of the experiment. In addition, spot measurements of formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds were also included. From the analysis of the results recorded by the sensors it is concluded that the presence of houseplants can reduce the concentration of VOCs. The conclusions are less clear for the CO2 measurements, due to the uncertainties identified. Nevertheless, it was detected that factors such as plant density, irrigation, ventilation, sun exposure and the type of substrate and specimen, influenced the test. The results such as the increase in CO2 when placing a high number of plants with organic substrate or the good performance of most species to reduce this pollutant, allow the design of a new detailed experiment with specific conditions on the number and type of plants, the type of substrate and the possibility of introducing pollutants in a controlled way
