    Nonlinear dynamics study of a high-temperature rotor-bearing-seal system in gas turbine

    Most of the major faults in gas turbines often originate from the rotor shaft. Some of these faults could result to misalignment, imbalance, crack, rub-impact and eccentricity. This study analyzes nonlinear factors such as lube-film surge and thermal-stress. Seal and bearing quality significantly affect the performance of a rotor system. The nonlinear dynamic characteristics of a high-temperature rotor–bearing–seal coupled system are investigated. Dynamic trajectories, Poincaré maps, frequency spectra diagrams are used to analyze the features of the rotor-bearing-seal coupled system in terms of various parameters. Several nonlinear phenomena in the high-temperature rotor–bearing–seal coupled system, such as periodic, double-periodic, multi-periodic, and quasi-periodic motion are investigated. Through these curves and the program, the dynamic characteristics of gas turbine rotors could be easily and accurately calculated. To validate this method, the critical speed of a real rotor of an actual gas turbine was calculated by means of the program and curves. The results are consistent with the measured data and may contribute to further understanding the nonlinear dynamics of the high-temperature rotor-bearing-seal coupled system

    N-Terminal Pro-B-Type Natriuretic Peptide as a Biomarker of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia or Death in Preterm Infants: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis

    Objectives: To investigate the association between serum N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level on the first day of life and a composite outcome of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) or death in a cohort of infants born before 32 weeks of gestation.Methods: We retrospectively identified infants born before 32 weeks of gestation who had serum NT-proBNP levels measured when they were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit shortly after birth. The outcome of BPD or death was assessed at 36 weeks of postmenstrual age. The association of serum NT-proBNP levels with BPD or death was evaluated. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate the predictive performance of serum NT-proBNP levels.Results: A 100 and 47 preterm infants had serum NT-proBNP levels measured on the first day of life. Serum NT-proBNP level was significantly higher in preterm infants who developed moderate/severe BPD or died [3,855 (2,567–6,369) vs. 1,259 (950–2,035) in control infants, P < 0.001]. On binary regression analysis, a high natural logarithm of serum NT-proBNP levels was associated with increased risk of moderate/severe BPD or death adjusted for gestational age, birth weight, birth weight z-score, and Apgar scores at 1 and 5 min (odds ratio [OR] = 5.195, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.667–10.117, P < 0.001). ROC analysis identified a NT-proBNP level of 2002.5 pg/mL to have 87.5% sensitivity and 74.7% specificity for predicting moderate/severe BPD or death. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.853 (95% CI 0.792–0.914).Conclusion: Serum NT-proBNP level measured on the first day of life is a promising biomarker for predicting the development of moderate/severe BPD or death in preterm infants. Our findings warrant a larger prospective study to incorporate measurement of NT-proBNP in prognosticating outcomes in very preterm infants

    Target density effects on charge tansfer of laser-accelerated carbon ions in dense plasma

    We report on charge state measurements of laser-accelerated carbon ions in the energy range of several MeV penetrating a dense partially ionized plasma. The plasma was generated by irradiation of a foam target with laser-induced hohlraum radiation in the soft X-ray regime. We used the tri-cellulose acetate (C9_{9}H16_{16}O8_{8}) foam of 2 mg/cm3^{-3} density, and 11-mm interaction length as target material. This kind of plasma is advantageous for high-precision measurements, due to good uniformity and long lifetime compared to the ion pulse length and the interaction duration. The plasma parameters were diagnosed to be Te_{e}=17 eV and ne_{e}=4 ×\times 1020^{20} cm3^{-3}. The average charge states passing through the plasma were observed to be higher than those predicted by the commonly-used semiempirical formula. Through solving the rate equations, we attribute the enhancement to the target density effects which will increase the ionization rates on one hand and reduce the electron capture rates on the other hand. In previsous measurement with partially ionized plasma from gas discharge and z-pinch to laser direct irradiation, no target density effects were ever demonstrated. For the first time, we were able to experimentally prove that target density effects start to play a significant role in plasma near the critical density of Nd-Glass laser radiation.     Frequent alterations in cytoskeleton remodelling genes in primary and metastatic lung adenocarcinomas

    The landscape of genetic alterations in lung adenocarcinoma derived from Asian patients is largely uncharacterized. Here we present an integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis of 335 primary lung adenocarcinomas and 35 corresponding lymph node metastases from Chinese patients. Altogether 13 significantly mutated genes are identified, including the most commonly mutated gene TP53 and novel mutation targets such as RHPN2, GLI3 and MRC2. TP53 mutations are furthermore significantly enriched in tumours from patients harbouring metastases. Genes regulating cytoskeleton remodelling processes are also frequently altered, especially in metastatic samples, of which the high expression level of IQGAP3 is identified as a marker for poor prognosis. Our study represents the first large-scale sequencing effort on lung adenocarcinoma in Asian patients and provides a comprehensive mutational landscape for both primary and metastatic tumours. This may thus form a basis for personalized medical care and shed light on the molecular pathogenesis of metastatic lung adenocarcinoma
