Estimation of Asian Dust Aerosol Effect on Cloud Radiation Forcing Using Fu-Liou Radiative Model and CERES Measurements

    Get PDF
The impact of Asian dust on cloud radiative forcing during 2003-2006 is studied by using the Earth's Radiant Energy Budget Scanner (CERES) data and the Fu-Liou radiative transfer model. Analysis of satellite data shows that the dust aerosol significantly reduced the cloud cooling effect at TOA. In dust contaminated cloudy regions, the 4-year mean values of the instantaneous shortwave, longwave and net cloud radiative forcing are -138.9, 69.1, and -69.7 Wm(sup -2), which are 57.0, 74.2, and 46.3%, respectively, of the corresponding values in more pristine cloudy regions. The satellite-retrieved cloud properties are significantly different in the dusty regions and can influence the radiative forcing indirectly. The contributions to the cloud radiation forcing by the dust direct, indirect and semi-direct effects are estimated using combined satellite observations and Fu-Liou model simulation. The 4-year mean value of combination of indirect and semi-direct shortwave radiative forcing (SWRF) is 82.2 Wm(sup -2), which is 78.4% of the total dust effect. The direct effect is only 22.7 Wm(sup -2), which is 21.6% of the total effect. Because both first and second indirect effects enhance cloud cooling, the aerosol-induced cloud warming is mainly the result of the semi-direct effect of dust

All of the 14 subfields of the Kepler field have been observed at least once with the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST, Xinglong Observatory, China) during the 2012-2014 observation seasons. There are 88,628 reduced spectra with SNRg_g (signal-to-noise ratio in g band) \geq 6 after the first round (2012-2014) of observations for the LAMOST-Kepler project (LK-project). By adopting the upgraded version of the LAMOST Stellar Parameter pipeline (LASP), we have determined the atmospheric parameters (TeffT_{\rm eff} , logg\log g, and [Fe/H]\rm [Fe/H]) and heliocentric radial velocity vradv_{\rm rad} for 51,406 stars with 61,226 spectra. Compared with atmospheric parameters derived from both high-resolution spectroscopy and asteroseismology method for common stars in Huber et al. (2014), an external calibration of LASP atmospheric parameters was made, leading to the determination of external errors for the giants and dwarfs, respectively. Multiple spectroscopic observations for the same objects of the LK-project were used to estimate the internal uncertainties of the atmospheric parameters as a function of SNRg_g with the unbiased estimation method. The LASP atmospheric parameters were calibrated based on both the external and internal uncertainties for the giants and dwarfs, respectively. A general statistical analysis of the stellar parameters leads to discovery of 106 candidate metal-poor stars, 9 candidate very metal-poor stars, and 18 candidate high-velocity stars. Fitting formulae were obtained segmentally for both the calibrated atmospheric parameters of the LK-project and the KIC parameters with the common stars. The calibrated atmospheric parameters and radial velocities of the LK-project will be useful for studying stars in the Kepler field.Comment: 53 pages, 21 figures, 5 tables, Accepted for publication by ApJ

Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is an aggressive form of malignancy with poor prognostic value. Cuproptosis is a novel type of cell death regulatory mechanism in tumors. However, the role of cuproptosis-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in CM remains elusive. The cuproptosis-related lncRNAs were identified using the Pearson correlation algorithm. Through the univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis, the prognosis of seven lncRNAs associated with cuproptosis was established and a new risk model was constructed. ESTIMATE, CIBERSORT, and single sample gene set enrichment analyses (ssGSEA) were applied to evaluate the immune microenvironment landscape. The Kaplan–Meier survival analysis revealed that the overall survival (OS) of CM patients in the high-risk group was remarkably lower than that of the low-risk group. The result of the validated cohort and the training cohort indicated that the risk model could produce an accurate prediction of the prognosis of CM. The nomogram result demonstrated that the risk score based on the seven prognostic cuproptosis-related lncRNAs was an independent prognostic indicator feature that distinguished it from other clinical features. The result of the immune microenvironment landscape indicated that the low-risk group showed better immunity than high-risk group. The immunophenoscore (IPS) and immune checkpoints results conveyed a better benefit potential for immunotherapy clinical application in the low-risk groups. The enrichment analysis and the gene set variation analysis (GSVA) were adopted to reveal the role of cuproptosis-related lncRNAs mediated by the immune-related signaling pathways in the development of CM. Altogether, the construction of the risk model based on cuproptosis-related lncRNAs can accurately predict the prognosis of CM and indicate the immune microenvironment of CM, providing a new perspective for the future clinical treatment of CM

ObjectivesTo compare the inter-rectus distance (IRD), rectus abdominis thickness (RAT), and stiffness in women during pregnancy and postpartum and identify the risk and protective factors affecting diastasis recti abdominis (DRA).Materials and methodsA total of 171 pregnant women who volunteered to participate in this study were recruited. Using an ultrasonographic diagnostic instrument with shear wave elastography function, IRD, RAT and the Young’s modulus of the rectus abdominis muscles were measured at 12 weeks, 37 weeks of pregnancy, and 6 weeks postpartum.ResultsThe IRD at 37 weeks was significantly higher than that at 12 weeks and then decreased at 6 weeks postpartum, but it was still higher than that at 12 weeks (p < 0.001). RAT and Young’s modulus decreased significantly at 37 weeks compared with those at 12 weeks and then recovered at 6 weeks postpartum, but they were lower than those at 12 weeks (p < 0.001). IRD at 12 weeks was significantly higher in multiparae than in primiparae (p < 0.001). Moreover, positive correlation between the RAT and Young’s modulus of rectus abdominis muscles at 12 and 37 weeks of gestation and 6 weeks postpartum (p < 0.001) was observed. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the regression equation was significant (f = 24.856, p < 001).ConclusionOur study identified differences in IRD, thickness and stiffness of the rectus abdominis muscle between early and advanced pregnancy and the postpartum period. The risk and protective factors of DRA may guide pregnant women’s protection and treatment

The LAMOST-\textit{K}2 (L\textit{K}2) project, initiated in 2015, aims to collect low-resolution spectra of targets in the \textit{K}2 campaigns, similar to LAMOST-\textit{Kepler} project. By the end of 2018, a total of 126 L\textit{K}2 plates had been observed by LAMOST. After cross-matching the catalog of the LAMOST data release 6 (DR6) with that of the \textit{K}2 approved targets, we found 160,619 usable spectra of 84,012 objects, most of which had been observed more than once. The effective temperature, surface gravity, metallicity, and radial velocity from 129,974 spectra for 70,895 objects are derived through the LAMOST Stellar Parameter Pipeline (LASP). The internal uncertainties were estimated to be 81 K, 0.15 dex, 0.09 dex and 5 kms1^{-1}, respectively, when derived from a spectrum with a signal-to-noise ratio in the gg band (SNRg_g) of 10. These estimates are based on results for targets with multiple visits. The external accuracies were assessed by comparing the parameters of targets in common with the APOGEE and GAIA surveys, for which we generally found linear relationships. A final calibration is provided, combining external and internal uncertainties for giants and dwarfs, separately. We foresee that these spectroscopic data will be used widely in different research fields, especially in combination with \textit{K}2 photometry.Comment: 31 pages, 9 figures, 6 tables, accepted by ApJ

Effect of FTY720 on Some Physiological Indexes of Non-Obese Diabetic (NOD) Mice

The studies were performed to investigate the physiological characteristics of non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice treated with FTY720. At the age of 12 weeks, each mouse was fed with FTY720 or physiological saline once a day for 10 weeks running, and their blood glucose, weight, anti-GAD antibody and organ indexes were determined. No mouse in group FTY720 (NOD mice treated with FTY720) showed diabetic symptoms. The average content of serum anti-GAD antibody in group FTY720 decreased 48.75% (P < 0.01). It was concluded that the spleen, kidney and liver of NOD mice treated with FTY720 shriveled significantly in the progression of diabetes (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). The body weight of group FTY720 mice was slightly lower than that of the model control (MC) group and these two groups both had less body weight than the normal control (NC) group (P < 0.01). The result of tests of anti-GAD antibody suggested that FTY720 treatment could suppress the anti-GAD response

cAMP/CREB-regulated LINC00473 marks LKB1-inactivated lung cancer and mediates tumor growth

The LKB1 tumor suppressor gene is frequently mutated and inactivated in non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Loss of LKB1 promotes cancer progression and influences therapeutic responses in preclinical studies; however, specific targeted therapies for lung cancer with LKB1 inactivation are currently unavailable. Here, we have identified a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) signature that is associated with the loss of LKB1 function. We discovered that LINC00473 is consistently the most highly induced gene in LKB1-inactivated human primary NSCLC samples and derived cell lines. Elevated LINC00473 expression correlated with poor prognosis, and sustained LINC00473 expression was required for the growth and survival of LKB1-inactivated NSCLC cells. Mechanistically, LINC00473 was induced by LKB1 inactivation and subsequent cyclic AMP–responsive element–binding protein (CREB)/CREB-regulated transcription coactivator (CRTC) activation. We determined that LINC00473 is a nuclear lncRNA and interacts with NONO, a component of the cAMP signaling pathway, thereby facilitating CRTC/CREB-mediated transcription. Collectively, our study demonstrates that LINC00473 expression potentially serves as a robust biomarker for tumor LKB1 functional status that can be integrated into clinical trials for patient selection and treatment evaluation, and implicates LINC00473 as a therapeutic target for LKB1-inactivated NSCLC
