    Naoe-foam-sjtu solver for ship flows and ocean engineering flows

    Ship and ocean engineering flows is a very complex and highly non-linear problem. Traditional experimental methods and potential flow theory have limitations in predicting the complex flows. A CFD solver naoe-FOAM-SJTU is developed based on the open source platform OpenFOAM with the purpose of simulating various ship and ocean engineering flow problems. In the present paper, the self-developed modules, i.e., wave generation and absorption, 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF) motion, mooring system and overset grid are introduced to illustrate the development of the CFD solver. Furthermore, extensive applications to ship flows and ocean engineering flows using naoe-FOAM-SJTU solver are conducted and validated by available experimental data. It has been proved that the CFD solver naoe-FOAM-SJTU is suitable and reliable in predicting the complex viscous flows around ship and offshore structures. Future development of naoe-FOAM-SJTU solver will focus on further enhancement of accuracy and efficiency for CFD simulations of complex flows in ship and ocean engineering

    Users of mobile phones with android operating system is increasing from year to year as more affordable. Thisgives the potential use of mobile phones as a means of disseminating information. As the capital of Central Java,Semarang has a variety of health care facilities which include Posyandu is always used by the surroundingcommunity. However, not all locations Posyandu known by the public because they lack information about thelocation. It is necessary for the navigation application Posyandu in Semarang. The purpose of this research ishow to design the application model and the location of Posyandu in real time with the geolocation methods andformulas Haversine. The method used is the Systems Development Life Cycle. System analysis model using UseCase Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams and Class Diagrams. Results of this research is theapplication of navigation map based on Android mobile can provide information about the existence of thelocation, route and distance Posyandu. Results of this application is important for people who need drivingdirections Posyandu location.     Global river economic belts can become more sustainable by considering economic and ecological processes

    High-quality regional development requires coupling of socioeconomic and natural domains, but it remains unclear how to effectively integrate the regional economy with river basin ecosystems. Here we establish a developmental perspective of 65 river economic belts, formed through history along the main stems of the world’s great rivers, covering initial, developing, and developed stages. We find that river economic belts characterized by basin-based regional integration can substantially upgrade their eco-efficiency through the harmonization of enhanced regional economic growth and efficient utilization of basin resources, once key prerequisites (e.g., gross domestic product per capita, de-industrialization status, and human development index) are met for river economic belts entering the developed stage. Importantly, primary concerns such as resource stress, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss are also inherently addressed. Under representative scenarios of regional development planning and climate change (2015–2050), the basin-based regional integration strategy would provide river economic belts with new opportunities and pathways towards sustainability in emerging regions worldwide.</p

    Deep matrix factorization for trust-aware recommendation in social networks

    Recent years have witnessed remarkable information overload in online social networks, and social network based approaches for recommender systems have been widely studied. The trust information in social networks among users is an important factor for improving recommendation performance. Many successful recommendation tasks are treated as the matrix factorization problems. However, the prediction performance of matrix factorization based methods largely depends on the matrixes initialization of users and items. To address this challenge, we develop a novel trust-aware approach based on deep learning to alleviate the initialization dependence. First, we propose two deep matrix factorization (DMF) techniques, i.e., linear DMF and non-linear DMF to extract features from the user-item rating matrix for improving the initialization accuracy. The trust relationship is integrated into the DMF model according to the preference similarity and the derivations of users on items. Second, we exploit deep marginalized Denoising Autoencoder (Deep-MDAE) to extract the latent representation in the hidden layer from the trust relationship matrix to approximate the user factor matrix factorized from the user-item rating matrix. The community regularization is integrated in the joint optimization function to take neighbours' effects into consideration. The results of DMF are applied to initialize the updating variables of Deep-MDAE in order to further improve the recommendation performance. Finally, we validate that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art baselines for recommendation, especially for the cold-start users. © 2013 IEEE

    Oxidized OxyR Up-Regulates ahpCF Expression to Suppress Plating Defects of oxyR- and Catalase-Deficient Strains

    It is well established that in bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, OxyR is a transcriptional regulator that mediates the response to H2O2 by activating the OxyR regulon, which consists of many genes that play vital roles in oxidative stress resistance. In Shewanella, OxyR regulates, however, in both reduced and oxidized states, the production of H2O2 scavengers, including major catalase KatB and NADH peroxidase AhpCF. Here we showed that the oxyR mutant carried a plating defect manifested as division arresting, a phenotype that can be completely suppressed by an OxyR variant constitutively existing in oxidized form (OxyRL197P). This effect of OxyRL197P could not be solely attributed to the increment in KatB production, since the suppression was also observed in the absence of KatB. Although expression of peroxidase CcpA was greatly activated by OxyRL197P, the contribution of the protein in alleviating plating defect was negligible. We eventually identified AhpCF as the critical factor, when produced at substantially elevated levels by OxyRL197P, to protect the cell from H2O2 attack. Our data indicate that AhpCF is a particularly important peroxidase in oxidative stress resistance in Shewanella, not only playing a compensatory role for catalase, but also by itself providing sufficient protection from killing of H2O2 generated abiotically

    A novel DEAH-box helicase 37 mutation associated with differences of sex development

    ObjectiveTo determine the genetic etiology of a family pedigree with two patients affected by differences of sex development (DSD).MethodsAssess the clinical characteristics of the patients and achieve exome sequencing results and in vitro functional studies.ResultsThe 15-year-old proband, raised as female, presented with delayed puberty and short stature associated with atypical genitalia. Hormonal profile showed hypergonadotrophic hypogonadism. Imaging studies revealed the absence of a uterus and ovaries. The karyotype confirmed a 46, XY pattern. Her younger brother presented with a micropenis and hypoplastic scrotum with non-palpable testis and hypospadias. Laparoscopic exploration was performed on the younger brother. Streak gonads were found and removed due to the risk of neoplastic transformation. Post-operative histopathology showed the co-existence of Wolffian and Müllerian derivatives. Whole-exome sequencing identified a novel mutation (c.1223C&gt;T, p. Ser408Leu) in the Asp-Glu-Ala-His-box helicase 37 gene, which was found to be deleterious by in silico analysis. Segregation analysis of the variant displayed a sex-limited, autosomal dominant, maternal inheritance pattern. In vitro experiments revealed that the substitution of 408Ser by Leu caused decreased DHX37 expression both at the mRNA and protein levels. Moreover, the β-catenin protein was upregulated, and the p53 protein was unaltered by mutant DHX37.ConclusionsWe described a novel mutation (c.1223C&gt;T, p. Ser408Leu) of the DHX37 gene associated with a Chinese pedigree consisting of two 46, XY DSD patients. We speculated that the underlying molecular mechanism might involve upregulation of the β-catenin protein

    Penicillium marneffei-Stimulated Dendritic Cells Enhance HIV-1 Trans-Infection and Promote Viral Infection by Activating Primary CD4+ T Cells

    Penicillium marneffei (P. marneffei) is considered an indicator pathogen of AIDS, and the endemicity and clinical features of P. marneffei have been described. While, how the co-infection of P. marneffei exacerbate deterioration of the immune response remains poorly understood. Here we isolated P. marneffei from the cutaneous lesions of AIDS patients and analyzed its effects on HIV-1-dendritic cells (DCs) interaction. We demonstrated that the monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MDDCs) could be activated by both thermally dimorphic forms of P. marneffei for significantly promoting HIV-1 trans-infection of CD4+ T cells, while these activated MDDCs were refractory to HIV-1 infection. Mechanistically, P. marneffei-activated MDDCs endocytosed large amounts of HIV-1 and sequestrated the internalized viruses into tetrapasnin CD81+ compartments potentially for proteolysis escaping. The activated MDDCs increased expression of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 and facilitated the formation of DC-T-cell conjunctions, where much more viruses were recruited. Moreover, we found that P. marneffei-stimulated MDDCs efficiently activated resting CD4+ T cells and induced more susceptible targets for viral infection. Our findings demonstrate that DC function and its interaction with HIV-1 have been modulated by opportunistic pathogens such as P. marneffei for viral dissemination and infection amplification, highlighting the importance of understanding DC-HIV-1 interaction for viral immunopathogenesis elucidation

    Using vector building maps to aid in generating seams for low-attitude aerial orthoimage mosaicking: Advantages in avoiding the crossing of buildings

    A novel seam detection approach based on vector building maps is presented for low-attitude aerial orthoimage mosaicking. The approach tracks the centerlines between vector buildings to generate the candidate seams that avoid crossing buildings existing in maps. The candidate seams are then refined by considering their surrounding pixels to minimize the visual transition between the images to be mosaicked. After the refinement of the candidate seams, the final seams further bypass most of the buildings that are not updated into vector maps. Finally, three groups of aerial imagery from different urban densities are employed to test the proposed approach. The experimental results illustrate the advantages of the proposed approach in avoiding the crossing of buildings. The computational efficiency of the proposed approach is also significantly higher than that of Dijkstra’s algorithm
