    Are non-competitors greener? The effect of consumer awareness differences on green food consumption

    IntroductionGreen consumption plays a crucial role in mitigating environmental degradation. Governments and corporations are actively fostering the growth of green consumption. The escalating environmental issues have awakened consumers' environmental and competitive awareness, which significantly aids in increasing the probability of green food consumption.MethodsThis study, based on the Self-Consistency Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior, constructs a model to analyze the effects of consumer competitive and environmental awareness on green food purchase intentions. Data from 700 consumer surveys were examined through structural equation modeling.ResultsFindings indicate that while consumer competitive awareness negatively impacts green self-efficacy and perceived control, environmental awareness has a positive effect. Green self-efficacy and perceived control both positively influence green food purchase intentions. Notably, competitive awareness has a more substantial negative impact on perceived control compared to green self-efficacy. In contrast, the positive influence of environmental awareness on green self-efficacy is stronger than on perceived control. Moreover, the effect of green self-efficacy on green food purchase intention is more pronounced than that of perceived control.DiscussionStrategies like enhancing media publicity, educational initiatives, and improving purchase convenience can increase consumer purchase intentions. This study offers valuable insights for governments and businesses in understanding consumer psychology in green food consumption, aiding in marketing strategies for green food products

    Analysis of pig serum proteins based on shotgun liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

    Recent advances in proteomics technologies have opened up significant opportunities for future applications. We used shotgun liquid chromatography, coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to determine the proteome profile of healthy pig serum. Samples of venous blood were collected and subjected to sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis separation and in-gel trypsin digestion. The peptides were then processed using shotgun LC-MS/MS. Serum proteins were subjected to protein identification and bioinformatics analysis. A total of 392 proteins were identified, and 179 were annotated according to their molecular functions and biological processes, excluding 142 hypothetical proteins and 71 immune globulins. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first porcine serum proteomics analysis based on shotgun LC-MS/MS. This method and the resulting proteomics information may prove valuable for ensuring good animal welfare practice and for monitoring swine health and disease status.Keywords: Analysis, pig serum, shotgun coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS

    Subcellular localization and expression analysis of the BmDSCLP protein from silkworm, Bombyx mori

    Leucine-rich repeat (LRR) proteins play important roles in the transduction of cellular signals and activation of defense responses. By scanning the cDNA library of silkworm (Bombyx mori) pupae constructed in our laboratory, we identified a 1557 bp gene that encodes a protein homologous to the death-associated small cytoplasmic leucine-rich protein, which was named as BmDSCLP. The full-length gene (GenBank accession no. FJ602779) contained a 642 bp open reading frame (ORF) encoding 213 amino acid residues. The ORF of this gene was inserted into the prokaryotic expression vector pET-28a(+) to construct a recombinant expression plasmid and the fusion protein was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) cells. The fusion protein was purified by Ni-affinity chromatography and fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) and its size was then, determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) and found to be 27.74 kD. Polyclonal antibodies were raised by subcutaneous injection of the recombinant protein into New Zealand white rabbits and the titer reached 1:12800. Analysis of the subcellular localization of the BmDSCLP protein revealed that, the protein was localized in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, but the amount in the former was slightly higher than that in the latter. In addition, real-time fluorescence quantification polymerase chain reaction studies were conducted to investigate BmDSCLP transcription at different developmental stages and in different tissues of the fifth instar larva. The results indicated that, BmDSCLP is widely transcribed in different stages and tissues of the silkworm. Analysis of stage-specific transcription patterns indicated that, the transcriptional level of BmDSCLP was highest in adults and lowest in eggs. Analysis of tissue-specific transcription patterns revealed that, the transcriptional level of BmDSCLP was highest in genital organs and lowest in silk glands.     GradAuto:Energy-oriented Attack on Dynamic Neural Networks

    Dynamic neural networks could adapt their structures or parameters based on different inputs. By reducing the computation redundancy for certain samples, it can greatly improve the computational efficiency without compromising the accuracy. In this paper, we investigate the robustness of dynamic neural networks against energy-oriented attacks. We present a novel algorithm, named GradAuto, to attack both dynamic depth and dynamic width models, where dynamic depth networks reduce redundant computation by skipping some intermediate layers while dynamic width networks adaptively activate a subset of neurons in each layer. Our GradAuto carefully adjusts the direction and the magnitude of the gradients to efficiently find an almost imperceptible perturbation for each input, which will activate more computation units during inference. In this way, GradAuto effectively boosts the computational cost of models with dynamic architectures. Compared to previous energy-oriented attack techniques, GradAuto obtains the state-of-the-art result and recovers 100% dynamic network reduced FLOPs on average for both dynamic depth and dynamic width models. Furthermore, we demonstrate that GradAuto offers us great control over the attacking process and could serve as one of the keys to unlock the potential of the energy-oriented attack.     Factors Related to Female Sex Workers’ Willingness to Utilize VCT Service: A Qualitative Study in Jinan City, Northern China

    While national HIV prevalence remains low in China, female sex workers (FSWs) have become infected at high rates. Free voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT) has been offered in recent years; however, its utilization rate is low. This study explored factors related to FSWs' willingness to utilize a VCT clinic. Qualitative interviews informed by the Ecological Perspective were conducted to interview 17 FSWs and 12 managers from 23 selected entertainment establishments in Jinan, the capital of Shandong province in northern China. While the majority of FSWs professed willingness to use VCT services, they described barriers to actual utilization of services which included: misunderstandings about HIV; low perceived risk and HIV prevalence; mistrust of the free VCT; and especially anxiety about the implications of possible test results. This research suggests that increasing FSWs' utilization of VCT will require increased knowledge of HIV and VCT, and acceptance of testing and on-site VCT services

    Accumbal Adenosine A2A Receptors Enhance Cognitive Flexibility by Facilitating Strategy Shifting

    The deficits of cognitive flexibility (including attentional set-shifting and reversal learning) concomitant with dysfunction of the striatum are observed in several neuropsychiatric disorders. Rodent and human studies have identified the striatum [particularly the dorsomedial striatum (DMS) and nucleus accumbens (NAc)] as the critical locus for control of cognitive flexibility, but the effective neuromodulator and pharmacological control of cognitive flexibility remains to be determined. The adenosine A2A receptors (A2ARs) are highly enriched in the striatopallidal neurons where they integrate dopamine and glutamate signals to modulate several cognitive behaviors, but their contribution to cognitive flexibility control is unclear. In this study, by coupling an automated operant cognitive flexibility task with striatal subregional knockdown (KD) of the A2AR via the Cre-loxP strategy, we demonstrated that NAc A2AR KD improved cognitive flexibility with enhanced attentional set-shifting and reversal learning by decreasing regressive and perseverative errors, respectively. This facilitation was not attributed to mnemonic process or motor activity as NAc A2AR KD did not affect the visual discrimination, lever-pressing acquisition, and locomotor activity, but was associated with increased attention and motivation as evident by the progressive ratio test (PRT). In contrast to NAc A2ARs, DMS A2ARs KD neither affected visual discrimination nor improved set-shifting nor reversal learning, but promoted the effort-related motivation. Thus, NAc and DMS A2ARs exert dissociable controls of cognitive flexibility with NAc A2ARs KD selectively enhancing cognitive flexibility by facilitating strategy shifting with increased motivation/attention
