A New Version of Rectification for the Leaning Structures and Foundations
A new version of the rectification technique tor the leaning structure and foundation developed by Wuhan Foundation Engineering Center was used to restore the tilted columns to their original position. The main idea of this new method is to apply adjusting loads on the foundation through anchors or short piles. According to the tilting conditions the anchors or piles can be installed at one side or at both sides of the tilting foundations. The loads can be applied in successive increments until the final desired positions were reached. By using this technique a tilted warehouse was completely restored to its working condition and given below as a typical example of case history
Study of the effects of external imaginary electric field and chiral chemical potential on quark matter
The behavior of quark matter with both external electric field and chiral
chemical potential is theoretically and experimentally interesting to consider.
In this paper, the case of simultaneous presence of imaginary electric field
and chiral chemical potential is investigated using the lattice QCD approach
with dynamical staggered fermions. We find that overall both the
imaginary electric field and the chiral chemical potential can exacerbate
chiral symmetry breaking, which is consistent with theoretical predictions.
However we also find a non-monotonic behavior of chiral condensation at
specific electric field strengths and chiral chemical potentials. In addition
to this, we find that the behavior of Polyakov loop in the complex plane is not
significantly affected by chiral chemical potential in the region of the
parameters consider in this paper.Comment: 24 pages, 13 figure
The relation of H2CO, 12CO, and 13CO in molecular clouds
Aims. We seek to understand how the 4.8 GHz formaldehyde absorption line is
distributed in the MON R2, S156, DR17/L906, and M17/M18 regions. More
specifically, we look for the relationship among the H2CO, 12CO, and 13CO
spectral lines. Methods. The four regions of MON R2 (60'x90'), S156 (5'0x70'),
DR17/L906 (40'x60'), and M17 /M18 (70'x80')were observed for H2CO (beam 10'),
H110a recombination (beam 10'), 6 cm continuum (beam 10'), 12CO (beam 1'), and
13CO (beam 1'). We compared the H2CO,12CO,13CO, and continuum distributions,
and also the spectra line parameters of H2CO,12CO, and 13CO. Column densities
of H2CO,13CO, and H2 were also estimated. Results. We found out that the H2CO
distribution is similar to the 12CO and the 13CO distributions on a large
scale. The correlation between the 13 CO and the H2CO distributions is better
than between the 12CO and H2CO distributions. The H2CO and the 13CO tracers
systematically provide consistent views of the dense regions. T heir maps have
similar shapes, sizes, peak positions, and molecular spectra and present
similar centr al velocities and line widths. Such good agreement indicates that
the H2CO and the 13CO arise from similar regions.Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures published, 201
Local derivations of nest subalgebras of von Neumann algebras
AbstractIn this paper, it is proved that every norm continuous linear local derivation of a nest subalgebra of a factor von Neumann algebra is a derivation, and that every linear 2-local derivation of a nest subalgebra of a factor von Neumann algebra is a derivation
Characterizing and Predicting Early Reviewers for Effective Product Marketing on E-Commerce Websites
Online reviews have become an important source of information for users before making an informed purchase decision. Early reviews of a product tend to have a high impact on the subsequent product sales. In this paper, we take the initiative to study the behavior characteristics of early reviewers through their posted reviews on two real-world large e-commerce platforms, i.e., Amazon and Yelp. In specific, we divide product lifetime into three consecutive stages, namely early, majority and laggards. A user who has posted a review in the early stage is considered as an early reviewer. We quantitatively characterize early reviewers based on their rating behaviors, the helpfulness scores received from others and the correlation of their reviews with product popularity. We have found that (1) an early reviewer tends to assign a higher average rating score; and (2) an early reviewer tends to post more helpful reviews. Our analysis of product reviews also indicates that early reviewers' ratings and their received helpfulness scores are likely to influence product popularity. By viewing review posting process as a multiplayer competition game, we propose a novel margin-based embedding model for early reviewer prediction. Extensive experiments on two different e-commerce datasets have shown that our proposed approach outperforms a number of competitive baselines
Colorectal cancer screening with fecal occult blood test: A 22-year cohort study.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening with a three-tier fecal occult blood test (FOBT) in the Chinese population. The study was performed between 1987 and 2008 at the Beijing Military General Hospital, in a cohort of army service males and females aged >50 years. Between 1987 and 2005, a three-tier screening program, comprising guaiac-based FOBTs (gFOBTs), followed by immunochemical FOBTs for positive guaiac test samples and then colonoscopy for positive immunochemical test subjects, was performed annually. The cohort was followed up until 2008. The cohort included 5,104 subjects, of which, 3,863 subjects participated in screening (screening group) and 1,241 did not (non-screening group). The two groups did not differ in age, gender or other major risk factors for colon cancer. Overall, 36 CRCs occurred in the screening group and 21 in the non-screening group. Compared with the non-screening group, the relative risk for the incidence and mortality of CRC was 0.51 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.30-0.87] and 0.36 (95% CI, 0.18-0.71), respectively, in the screening group. The general sensitivity of this three-tier FOBT was 80.6% (95% CI, 65.3-91.1). Thus, annual screening using the three-tier FOBT program may reduce the CRC incidence and mortality rate
