    Algebras and non-geometric flux vacua

    In this work we classify the subalgebras satisfied by non-geometric Q-fluxes in type IIB orientifolds on T^6/(Z_2 x Z_2) with three moduli (S,T,U). We find that there are five subalgebras compatible with the symmetries, each one leading to a characteristic flux-induced superpotential. Working in the 4-dimensional effective supergravity we obtain families of supersymmetric AdS_4 vacua with all moduli stabilized at small string coupling g_s. Our results are mostly analytic thanks to a judicious parametrization of the non-geometric, RR and NSNS fluxes. We are also able to leave the flux-induced C_4 and C_8 RR tadpoles as free variables, thereby enabling us to study which values are allowed for each Q-subalgebra. Another novel outcome is the appearance of multiple vacua for special sets of fluxes. However, they generically have g_s > 1 unless the net number of O3/D3 or O7/D7 sources needed to cancel the tadpoles is large.     Immunization of Real Complex Communication Networks

    Most communication networks are complex. In this paper, we address one of the fundamental problems we are facing nowadays, namely, how we can efficiently protect these networks. To this end, we study an immunization strategy and found that it works as good as targeted immunization, but using only local information about the network topology. Our findings are supported with numerical simulations of the Susceptible-Infected-Removed (SIR) model on top of real communication networks, where immune nodes are previously identified by a covering algorithm.     Institutional diversity in the euro area: Any evidence of convergence?

    In recent years differences in the institutional structure across euro area countries are becoming a cause of concern both for some individual Member States and for the functioning of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). From a global competitiveness perspective, we deal with the diversity in the institutional environment in the EMU. In particular, we assess whether the changes in the state of institutions provide convergence across euro area countries between 2006 and 2015. In addition, among the institutional indicators considered, we compute which institutional aspect contributes more to overall inequality in the state of institutions, as well as the contribution of each country to inequality considering as benchmark the country with the highest institutional quality. According to these country contributions, we highlight distinct patterns of convergence between ‘core’ and ‘periphery’ euro area countries and raise potential links between the institutional changes across euro area countries and both the differences in the intensity of the financial and economic crisis, and the policy responses in terms of fiscal consolidation applied by the respective national governments.Universidad de Málaga.     Does economic freedom increase income inequality? Evidence from the EU countries

    Over the past decades there have been considerable changes in policies and institutions in favor of economic freedom in the EU countries. This trend coincides with widespread increases in income inequality in numerous member states. To what extent does economic freedom encourage inequality? This paper examines the relationship between economic freedom and income inequality in the EU countries using panel data for the 2000s. The empirical evidence suggests that economic freedom seems to entail greater income inequality. However, not all areas of economic freedom affect income distribution similarly. While government size and regulation appear to be robustly associated with income inequality, legal system and property rights, sound money, and freedom to trade internationally seem not to be significantly related with income distribution in the European context.Universidad de Málaga.     A Linda-based Platform for the Parallel Execution of Out-place Model Transformations

    Context: The performance and scalability of model transformations is gaining interest as industry is progressively adopting model-driven techniques and multicore computers are becoming commonplace. However, existing model transformation engines are mostly based on sequential and in-memory execution strategies, and thus their capabilities to transform large models in parallel and distributed environments are limited. Objective: This paper presents a solution that provides concurrency and distribution to model transformations. Method: Inspired by the concepts and principles of the Linda coordination language, and the use of data parallelism to achieve parallelization, a novel Javabased execution platform is introduced. It offers a set of core features for the parallel execution of out-place transformations that can be used as a target for high-level transformation language compilers. Results: Significant gains in performance and scalability of this platform are reported with regard to existing model transformation solutions. These results are demonstrated by running a model transformation test suite, and by its comparison against several state-of-the-art model transformation engines. Conclusion: Our Linda-based approach to the concurrent execution of model transformations can serve as a platform for their scalable and efficient implementation in parallel and distributed environments.Universidad de Málaga.     Teaching Model Views with UML and OCL

    The specification of any non-trivial system is normally composed of a set of models. Each model describes a different view of the system, focuses on a particular set of concerns, and uses its own notation. For example, UML defines a set of diagrams for modelling the structure and behavior of any software system. One of the problems we perceived with our students is that they are able to understand each one of these diagrams, but they have problems understanding how they are related, and how the overall system specifications work when composed of a set of views. This paper presents a simple case study that we have developed and successfully used in class, which permits students developing the principal views of a system, simulate them, and check their relations.Universidad de Málaga.
