Microalgae cultivated under magnetic field action: insights of aneEnvironmentally sustainable approach

    Get PDF
Microalgae and cyanobacteria include procaryotic and eucaryotic photosynthetic micro-organisms that produce biomass rich in biomolecules with a high value. Some examples of these biomolecules are proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, pigments, antioxidants, and vitamins. Currently, microalgae are also considered a good source of biofuel feedstock. The microalga-based biorefinery approach should be used to promote the sustainability of biomass generation since microalga biomass production can be performed and integrated into a circular bioeconomy structure. To include an environmentally sustainable approach with microalga cultures, it is necessary to develop alternative ways to produce biomass at a low cost, reducing pollution and improving biomass development. Different strategies are being used to achieve more productivity in cultivation, such as magnets in cultures. Magnetic forces can alter microalga metabolism, and this field of study is promising and innovative, yet remains an unexplored area. This review presents the current trends in the magnetic biostimulation of microalgae for the application of cultivated biomass in different areas of biotechnology, biofuel, and bioenergy production, as well as environmental protection.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Lean management in improving the organization - case study

    No full text
Purpose: The aim of this article is to present the results of research on needs and possibilities of implementing Lean Management concept at the university. Using the literature review and the results of empirical research, author proposes specific solutions (tools). Design/methodology/approach: The aim of the research was carried out on the basis of latest world literature review and empirical research conducted at a Polish university, the domain of which is practical education. The article is a case study with a proposal for the implementation of LM in a selected university. The research covered selected organizational units of universities. Findings: Recommendations for the use of selected Lean tools is the need to rationalize the activities undertaken in universities, including continuous improvement and flexibility of processes. There are economically justifiable actions to reduce waste and losses occurring in universities, as well as the integration of diversified and often non-cooperating organizational (functional) units. The proposals presented in this article may become an inspiration for universities that are thinking about implementing previously unused improvement tools. Research limitations/implications: Empirical research has been limited to one university, and the proposed methods and tools relate to selected functional areas. LM implementation requires prior analysis of the needs and capabilities of each organization. Practical implications: Due to the functioning of universities in an increasingly difficult to predict environment, they are forced to look for ways not only to survive, but above all to continuously improve the entire organization. The implemented rationalization and development measures should contribute to the improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of management. Unpredictable changes concern the legal, socio-cultural, economic and economic environment, as well as the COVID-19 epidemic situation. These challenges are met by the concept of LM - as an inspiration and an opportunity to accelerate remedial and pro-development actions. Originality/value: The article is dedicated to people interested in the theory and practice of the LM concept. The use of the methods and tools proposed by the author in various functional areas of the university may bring about beneficial changes in the form of improvements in activities, time savings, as well as rationalization and greater efficiency of the implemented processes

Towards Integration of Business Process Management and Knowledge Management. IT Systems’ Perspective

    No full text
The processes of globalisation, the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 epidemic, the continuing war in Ukraine, and constantly emerging new technological solutions require organisations to adapt to changes constantly. Meanwhile, implemented business process management (BPM) often fails to integrate processes and knowledge resources. The awareness of the IT systems’ role in management processes is still lacking. These premises influenced the implementation of the main research goal to identify the approach of Polish private and public enterprises and various industries to the BPM integration with knowledge management (MK) in the context of using new information technologies. The presented research results justify the usefulness of building relationships between the process and knowledge resources under dynamically changing conditions using IT systems. The diagnostic survey results confirmed the key importance of developing such BPM and MK elements as evidence-based decisions, strategic goals, measurement systems, databases, digital innovations, and IT use for data processing. The presented material can support managers of various organisation types in decision-making processes by fully understanding the IT systems’ role and potential in process and knowledge management. Also, the article’s implications are a source of guidelines, helping organisations to implement management systems based on modern technologies. The value of the publication is a wide range of respondents: 107 large, medium, small, and micro-enterprises operating in Poland. The article’s research results also concern economic activities such as production, logistics, transport, banking, insurance, IT, telecommunications/ media, public administration, healthcare/pharmaceuticals, consulting, energy, and construction

Evaluation of training programs by medical employees in a chosen hospital in Poland

Commitment in the professional role is undoubtedly a factor that influences professional success. A person who is well-equipped to perform their organizing role accepts the aims and duties set by the employees, acknowledges social norms of performance, and has the ability of satisfactory discharge of the duties, in aspect of their aims as well as the team's aims (the team it cooperates with).Monitoring the degree of involvement and satisfaction with the tasks performed in the hospital should be one of the manager's tasks. The systematic assessment of work quality, according to the authors, can become a source of knowledge about the employee's needs. This, in turn, gives a chance to adjust motivational stimulus. One of them is purposeful training offer, accepted by the employees. It has a great importance in medical care facilities, where the health and lives of patients depend on the knowledge and skills of medical workers

Influence of the Magnetic Field on the Germination Process of Tosca Bean Seeds (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.)

The experiment was aimed at determining, whether exposure to static magnetic fields of intensities (1T,  2.5T, and 5T) stimulates the growth of Tosca bean seeds (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Each treatment group in the  experiment underwent exposure to the magnetic field for a specific period of time, that is: 900s, 1800s, or  3600s. The measurements of root volumes were taken every 24 hours. The first measurement was taken after  96 hours since the beginning of germination. The collected data was analyzed using statistical methods.  The experiment allowed to determine that the magnetic field had a significant influence on the lowering of  bean seeds germination rate. The extent of this influence was dependent on the combination of factors: magnetic  field force- time of exposure

Poniższa praca prezentuje możliwość zastosowania projektowania generatywnego w procesie projektowania implantów personalizowanych. Zaproponowano dwie geometrie personalizowanego implantu kości jarzmowej, zaprojektowanego z wykorzystaniem projektowania generatywnego. Wyniki tego badania wskazują, że integracja metod projektowania generatywnego może znacznie poprawić wydajność procesów projektowania implantów personalizowanych. Korzyści obejmują lepszą wydajność implantu, niższe koszty produkcji i krótsze cykle iteracji projektu. The following work explores the application of generative design to the traditional patient-specific implant design process. Two geometries of a patient- specific zygomatic implant designed using generative design were proposed. The results of this study show that the integration of generative design methods can significantly improve the efficiency of patient-specific implant design processes. Benefits include improved implant performance, reduced manufacturing costs and shorter design iteration cycles

The Influence of Near Infrared Stimulation on the Germination Energy and Germination Capacity of Selected Parsley Varieties

A variety of different physical methods are used increasingly frequently to improve the quality of theseeds material. Numerous publications confirm the positive effect of, for example, the magnetic field witha frequency of 50 Hz on the germination of seeds. However, there are no significant reports regarding theimpact of NIR radiation on the growth and development of plants. To fill this gap the influence of three dosesof near-infrared seeds stimulation was tested under laboratory conditions. The power density was 6.9mW/cm2. The used seeds encompassed four parsley varieties: Konika, Osborne, Alba and Hanácká. Both the influenceof the used variety as well as the radiation dose on parsley germination were tested. The obtained resultsindicate that the stimulation affects the selected parsley varieties
