    ICO-Mark App Users Guide - version 1.3

    Get PDF
This is the user\u27s guide for the ICO Mark app. ICO Mark is a tablet- and phone-based application (app) developed for forest managers and forestry field crews to spatially monitor and map forest structure. ICO Mark relies on the Individuals-Clumps-Openings approach to characterizing dry forest spatial patterning, where forests are composed of varying proportions and sizes of individual trees, clumps of trees, and treeless openings. ICO Mark allows users to track individual trees and clumps for both marking pre-harvest, and for monitoring conditions post-harvest.https://scholarworks.umt.edu/ico/1001/thumbnail.jp

Enhanced ordering reduces electric susceptibility of liquids confined to graphene slit pores.

The behaviours of a range of polar and non-polar organic liquids (acetone, ethanol, methanol, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), carbon tetrachloride and water) confined to 2D graphene nanochannels with thicknesses in the range of 4.5 Å to 40 Å were studied using classical molecular dynamics and hybrid density functional theory. All liquids were found to organise spontaneously into ordered layers parallel to the confining surfaces, with those containing polar molecules having their electric dipoles aligned parallel to such surfaces. In particular, monolayers of NMP showed remarkable in-plane ordering and low molecular mobility, suggesting the existence of a previously unknown 2D solid-like phase. Calculations for polar liquids showed dramatically reduced static permittivities normal to the confining surfaces; these changes are expected to improve electron tunnelling across the liquid films, modifying the DC electrical properties of immersed assemblies of carbon nanomaterials.Mexican Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT)This is the final version of the article.

The [Ne III]/[Ne II] line ratio in NGC 253

We present results of the mapping of the nucleus of the starburst galaxy NGC 253 and its immediate surroundings using the Infrared Spectrograph on board the Spitzer Space Telescope. The map is centered on the nucleus of the galaxy and spans the inner 800 × 688 pc^2. We perform a brief investigation of the implications of these measurement on the properties of the star formation in this region using theories developed to explain the deficiency of massive stars in starbursts

The ICO Approach to Quantifying and Restoring Forest Spatial Pattern: Implementation Guide

    Get PDF
This document is intended as a “How To” guide for managers and stakeholders wishing to implement the Individual, Clumps, and Openings (ICO) method for silvicultural prescriptions and/or monitoring. This guide is organized into stand-alone chapters. Managers should read and use chapters as they find useful to their own needs.https://scholarworks.umt.edu/ico/1002/thumbnail.jp
