    The application of diniconazole and prohydrojasmon as plant growth regulators to induce growth and tuberization of potato

    The potato is a major vegetable crop around the world, and tuberous hypertrophy is a highly complex developmental process effected by various factors that play central role in potato growth. Tuber growth under hypertrophic conditions is regulated by variations in carbohydrates and endogenous phytohormones. In the present study, we aimed to establish the basis for the enlargement of potato tubers, including changes in the chemical content of factors related to tuber formation and hypertrophy based on phytohormonal regulation, plants height and tuber biomass and other selected attributes. Our results reveal that the application of plant growth regulators such as diniconazole (Din) and prohydrojasmon (PDJ) significantly impact on potato plants growth and yield, including that of tubers. Plants treated with Din and PDJ effectively showed stunted growth and re-duced development but enhance the tuber formation and its weight. Plants treated with Din and PDJ significantly reduced the GAs and ABA accumulation and increase the sucrose level and cause significant increase in tuber development. In conclusion, a higher gibberellin content in potatoes may inhibit tuberization. Diniconazole and PDJ treatment reduced gibberellin accumulation, which in turn regu-lated abscisic acid content, demonstrating that the abscisic acid content mostly increased as gibberellin content decreased, and thereby promoting tuberization

    Cutaneous Schwannoma Presented as a Pedunculated Protruding Mass

    Schwannoma is a benign neoplasm of the nerve sheath origin. It arises from the nerve sheath of large peripheral or cranial nerves and occurs at the level of the subcutaneous fat layer or deeper layer. Cutaneous schwannoma occurs more superficially and usually presents as a solitary dermal or subcutaneous nodule. We describe a case of cutaneous schwannoma that presented as an erythematous pedunculated protruding mass on the left flank of a 19-year-old female. It was clinically diagnosed as a granuloma pyogenicum. Shaving biopsy was conducted and histological examination revealed an encapsulated tumor mass containing dense, spindle-shaped cells whose nuclei are arranged back to back representing Verocay body, and a diagnosis of schwannoma was made. This is an unusual case of cutaneous schwannoma that presented as a pedunculated protruding mass

    Reconfigurable Charge Pump Circuit with Variable Pumping Frequency Scheme for Harvesting Solar Energy under Various Sunlight Intensities

    We propose variable pumping frequency (VPF) scheme which is merged with the previous reconfigurable charge pump (RCP) circuit that can change its architecture according to a given sunlight condition. Here, merging the VPF scheme with the architecture reconfiguration can improve percentage output currents better by 21.4% and 22.4% than RCP circuit with the fixed pumping frequencies of 7 MHz and 15 MHz, respectively. Comparing the VPF scheme with real maximum power points (MPP), the VPF can deliver 91.9% of the maximum amount of output current to the load on average. In terms of the power and area overheads, the VPF scheme proposed in this paper consumes the power by 0.4% of the total power consumption and occupies the layout area by 1.61% of the total layout area

    Oxygen Partial Pressure during Pulsed Laser Deposition: Deterministic Role on Thermodynamic Stability of Atomic Termination Sequence at SrRuO3/BaTiO3 Interface

    With recent trends on miniaturizing oxide-based devices, the need for atomic-scale control of surface/interface structures by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) has increased. In particular, realizing uniform atomic termination at the surface/interface is highly desirable. However, a lack of understanding on the surface formation mechanism in PLD has limited a deliberate control of surface/interface atomic stacking sequences. Here, taking the prototypical SrRuO3/BaTiO3/SrRuO3 (SRO/BTO/SRO) heterostructure as a model system, we investigated the formation of different interfacial termination sequences (BaO-RuO2 or TiO2-SrO) with oxygen partial pressure (PO2) during PLD. We found that a uniform SrO-TiO2 termination sequence at the SRO/BTO interface can be achieved by lowering the PO2 to 5 mTorr, regardless of the total background gas pressure (Ptotal), growth mode, or growth rate. Our results indicate that the thermodynamic stability of the BTO surface at the low-energy kinetics stage of PLD can play an important role in surface/interface termination formation.     Protective Immunity Against Challenge Infection with Trichinella spiralis in the Rat

    Protective immunity and immune response were studied in rats after primarily infection with Trichinella spiralis. The parameters measured include serum antibody isotype responses, mesenteric lymph node (MLN) cell and spleen cell proliferation responses in vitro, and the levels of interferon (IFN)-γ, interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4 and IL-10 as markers of the T-helper (Th) subset. Protective immunity was assessed by the degree of expulsion of adult worms from the rat intestine. Protective immunity against adult worms after challenge infection was 99.80%. Although IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-10 in both the MLNs and spleen were detected, IFN-γ and IL-2 levels were higher in the spleen than in the MLNs, and IL-4 and an increased amount of IL-10 was released in the MLNs as compared to the spleen. The levels of the specific immunoglobulins (Ig) G, IgM, IgG1 and IgG2a on week 6 after primary infection, and on day 7 after challenge infection, were higher as compared to levels in uninfected rats that only received a challenge infection (P ? 0.001), whereas the antibody level of IgG1 was significantly elevated from that of IgG2a (P ? 0.001). These results demonstrate that Th1 type responses predominated. In addition, as Th2 type cytokines were also produced, it is proposed that the protective immunity by primary infection was also related to the Th1 type responses
