Grey-box Modeling of Reversible Solid Oxide Cell Stack’s Electrical Dynamics Based on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy
This paper aims to design a lumped-capacity modelof a reversible solid oxide cell stack for hydrogen electrolysis.The lumped-capacity model needs to have an adequate representationof the electrical dynamics over a wide operatingrange and a model structure suitable for the design of a physicalemulator. The grey-box model is based on data obtained by electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy conducted on a commercialsolid oxide cell stack for four different gas compositions at sixaging stages. Evidence of energy and nutrient transfer from invasive pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) spawners to juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) in northern Norway
Recent large influxes of non-native Pacific pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) to North European rivers have raised concern over their potential negative impacts on native salmonids and recipient ecosystems. The eggs and carcasses of semelparous pink salmon may provide a significant nutrient and energy subsidy to native biota, but this phenomenon has not been widely documented outside the species' native distribution. We analysed the stomach contents and stable isotope values (δ15N and δ13C) in muscle and liver tissues of juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) to determine whether these native salmonids utilise marine-derived nutrients and energy provided by pink salmon eggs and carcasses in the subarctic river system Vesterelva, northern Norway. Although egg foraging and assimilation of marine-derived nutrients in fish body tissues were found to be minor at the population level, a few juvenile salmon and trout had recently eaten large quantities of pink salmon eggs. Some of these individuals also had high δ15N and δ13C values, indicating a long-term diet subsidised by marine-derived nutrients and energy from pink salmon eggs. Hence, our study provides novel evidence that the eggs of invasive pink salmon may provide an energetic, profitable food resource for juvenile native fish. Response of a catalytic reaction to periodic variation of the CO pressure: Increased CO_2 production and dynamic phase transition
We present a kinetic Monte Carlo study of the dynamical response of a
Ziff-Gulari-Barshad model for CO oxidation with CO desorption to periodic
variation of the CO presure. We use a square-wave periodic pressure variation
with parameters that can be tuned to enhance the catalytic activity. We produce
evidence that, below a critical value of the desorption rate, the driven system
undergoes a dynamic phase transition between a CO_2 productive phase and a
nonproductive one at a critical value of the period of the pressure
oscillation. At the dynamic phase transition the period-averged CO_2 production
rate is significantly increased and can be used as a dynamic order parameter.
We perform a finite-size scaling analysis that indicates the existence of
power-law singularities for the order parameter and its fluctuations, yielding
estimated critical exponent ratios and . These exponent ratios, together with theoretical symmetry
arguments and numerical data for the fourth-order cumulant associated with the
transition, give reasonable support for the hypothesis that the observed
nonequilibrium dynamic phase transition is in the same universality class as

The variational quantum eigensolver self-consistent field method within a polarizable embedded framework
We formulate and implement the Variational Quantum Eigensolver Self
Consistent Field (VQE-SCF) algorithm in combination with polarizable embedding
(PE), thereby extending PE to the regime of quantum computing. We test the
resulting algorithm, PE-VQE-SCF, on quantum simulators and demonstrate that the
computational stress on the quantum device is only slightly increased in terms
of gate counts compared to regular VQE-SCF. On the other hand, no increase in
shot noise was observed. We illustrate how PE-VQE-SCF may lead to the modeling
of real chemical systems using a simulation of the reaction barrier of the
