An analytical and experimental investigation of a 1.8 by 3.7 meter Fresnel lens solar concentrator
Line-focusing acrylic Fresnel lenses with application potential in the 200 to 370 C range are being analytically and experimentally evaluated. Investigations previously conducted with a 56 cm wide lens have been extended by the present study to experimentation/analyses with a 1.8 by 3.7 m lens. A measured peak concentration ratio of 64 with 90 percent of the transmitted energy focused into a 5.0 cm width was achieved. A peak concentration of 61 and a 90 percent target width of 4.5 cm were analytically computed. The experimental and analytical lens transmittance was 81 percent and 86 percent, respectively. The lens also was interfaced with a receiver assembly and operated in the collection mode. The collection efficiency ranged from 42 percent at 100 C to 26 percent at 300 C

Spacecraft extended mission coverage does not generally carry a high priority, but Helios was fortunate in that a combination of separated viewperiods and unique utilization of the STDN Goldstone antenna have provided a considerable amount of additional science data return, particularly at key times such a perihelion and/or solar occultation
Salvadoran Consumption of Ethnic Foods in the United States
The U.S. Salvadoran population is the largest group of Central and South American people living in the United States today. This study investigates the U.S. market for thirty Salvadoran foods and the demographic characteristics and attitudes of Salvadorans toward these foods. Original data were obtained from a survey conducted through personal interviews of Salvadoran residents of Los Angeles, California and Houston, Texas. Salvadorans surveyed were predominantly low income, without a high school degree, and living in large families. The Salvadoran foods consumed by most respondents were tortilla flour, red beans, loroco (a vegetable), semita (a sweet bread), queso duro (a hard cheese) and horchata (a cold drink). Four groups of households were determined by using cluster analysis. The results indicate that a potential market exists in the United States for most of the Salvadoran products included in this study, and that Salvadorans would like to buy other foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables.Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,
Scattering into Cones and Flux across Surfaces in Quantum Mechanics: a Pathwise Probabilistic Approach
We show how the scattering-into-cones and flux-across-surfaces theorems in
Quantum Mechanics have very intuitive pathwise probabilistic versions based on
some results by Carlen about large time behaviour of paths of Nelson
diffusions. The quantum mechanical results can be then recovered by taking

Quantum noise limited and entanglement-assisted magnetometry
We study experimentally the fundamental limits of sensitivity of an atomic
radio-frequency magnetometer. First we apply an optimal sequence of state
preparation, evolution, and the back-action evading measurement to achieve a
nearly projection noise limited sensitivity. We furthermore experimentally
demonstrate that Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entanglement of atoms generated
by a measurement enhances the sensitivity to pulsed magnetic fields. We
demonstrate this quantum limited sensing in a magnetometer utilizing a truly
macroscopic ensemble of 1.5*10^12 atoms which allows us to achieve

Finite-dimensional states and entanglement generation for a nonlinear coupler
We discuss a system comprising two nonlinear (Kerr-like) oscillators coupled
mutually by a nonlinear interaction. The system is excited by an external
coherent field that is resonant to the frequency of one of the oscillators. We
show that the coupler evolution can be closed within a finite set of -photon
states, analogously as in the \textit{nonlinear quantum scissors} model.
Moreover, for this type of evolution our system can be treated as a
\textit{Bell-like states} generator. Thanks to the nonlinear nature of both:
oscillators and their internal coupling, these states can be generated even if
the system exhibits its energy dissipating nature, contrary to systems with

Precise calculation of the threshold of various directed percolation models on a square lattice
Using Monte Carlo simulations on different system sizes we determine with
high precision the critical thresholds of two families of directed percolation
models on a square lattice. The thresholds decrease exponentially with the
degree of connectivity. We conjecture that decays exactly as the

Transverse Asymmetry A_T′ from the Quasielastic ^3He(e,e′) Process and the Neutron Magnetic Form Factor
We have measured the transverse asymmetry A_T′ in ^3He(e,e′) quasielastic scattering in Hall A at Jefferson Laboratory with high precision for Q^2 values from 0.1 to 0.6 (GeV/c)^2. The neutron magnetic form factor GMn was extracted based on Faddeev calculations for Q^2 = 0.1 and 0.2 (GeV/c)^2 with an experimental uncertainty of less than 2%
Plane-wave impulse approximation extraction of the neutron magnetic form factor from quasielastic ^3He(e,e') at Q^2=0.3 to 0.6 (GeV/c)^2
A high precision measurement of the transverse spin-dependent asymmetry A_T' in ^3He(e,e') quasielastic
scattering was performed in Hall A at Jefferson Lab at values of the squared four-momentum transfer, Q^2,
between 0.1 and 0.6 (GeV/c)^2. A_(T') is sensitive to the neutron magnetic form factor, G_M^n . Values of G_M^n at
Q^2 = 0.1 and 0.2 (GeV/c)^2, extracted using Faddeev calculations, were reported previously. Here, we report
the extraction of G_M^n for the remaining Q^2 values in the range from 0.3 to 0.6 (GeV/c)^2 using a plane-wave
impulse approximation calculation. The results are in good agreement with recent precision data from experiments
using a deuterium target
-kinks in strongly ac driven sine-Gordon systems
We demonstrate that -kinks exist in non-parametrically ac driven
sine-Gordon systems if the ac drive is sufficiently fast. It is found that, at
a critical value of the drive amplitude, there are two stable and two unstable
equilibria in the sine-Gordon phase. The pairwise symmetry of these equilibria
implies the existence of a one-parameter family of -kink solutions in the
reduced system. In the dissipative case of the ac driven sine-Gordon systems,
corresponding to Josephson junctions, the velocity is selected by the balance
between the perturbations. The results are derived from a perturbation analysis
