Coping strategies as mediators within the relationship between emotion-regulation and perceived stress in teachers
The aim of the present study was to examine whether different coping strategies (focus on positive, support coping, active coping and evasive coping) mediate the relationship between emotion-regulation (i.e., emotion acceptance skills, emotion resilience skills and emotion regulation skills) and perceived stress in physical education (PE) teachers. The sample consisted of 457 PE pre-service teachers. Results show that evasive coping strategies partly negatively mediate the relationship between emotion resilience skills and emotion regulation and perceived stress. Therefore, emotion-regulation might protect against using evasive coping strategies, which have been found to be related to higher stress in previous studies.peer-reviewe
Early Risk Detection of Burnout: Development of the Burnout Prevention Questionnaire for Coaches
Introduction: Previous research has shown that burnout develops as the result of a continuous imbalance between chronic stress and appropriate coping resources. Hence, the essential factors to measure burnout encompassed the factors stress and recovery within our studies. However, the Burnout Prevention Questionnaire for Coaches (BPQ-C) does not represent a new questionnaire from scratch, but rather a re-evaluated, condensed, and subsequently combined instrument with scales derived from validated psychometric instruments.Methods: The objective of study 1 (N = 233) was to create and evaluate the psychometric structure of the BPQ-C. The aim of study 2 (N = 473) consisted in the validation of the BPQ-C via a Confirmatory Factor Analysis.Results: The Exploratory Factor Analysis resulted in a model with three dimensions (Pre-Burnout, Resources, and Burnout). Via the subsequent Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the model could be confirmed with good fit indices (χ2 = 96.898, df = 19, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.973, SRMR = 0.044, RMSEA = 0.093, LO90 = 0.075, HI90 = 0.112).Conclusion: The BPQ-C includes a number of previously established risk and protective factors within a single psychometric instrument. The systematic application of the BPQ-C can help to detect critical conditions at an early stage in order to derive individualized and beneficial interventions for the respective coaches
The relationship between self-presentation concerns and pre-game affect among adolescent American football players
AbstractBackgroundThe influence of self-presentation concerns on the adolescent sport experience has received scant empirical attention. The purpose of this investigation was to prospectively examine the relationship among self-presentational concerns and pre-game affective states among middle and high school aged football players.MethodsAmerican football players (n = 112; mean age = 15.57 years) completed a measure of self-presentational concerns (SPSQ, McGowan, et al., 2008) a week prior to the measurement of selected pre-game affective states (i.e., attentiveness, self-assurance, serenity, and fear).ResultsRegression analyses revealed that concerns about appearing athletically untalented negatively contributed to the significant prediction (p < 0.001) of pre-game attentiveness, β = −0.43, R2adj = 19.5% (p < 0.001), and self-assurance, β = −0.38, R2adj = 11.9% (p < 0.01).ConclusionThese findings highlight the importance of reducing self-presentational concerns in promoting positive pre-game mental states that likely impact the quality of athletes' competitive play and experience

Three-loop HTL Free Energy for QED
We calculate the free energy of a hot gas of electrons and photons to three
loops using the hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory reorganization of
finite-temperature perturbation theory. We calculate the free energy through
three loops by expanding in a power series in m_D/T, m_f/T, and e^2, where m_D
and m_f are thermal masses and e is the coupling constant. We demonstrate that
the hard-thermal-loop perturbation reorganization improves the convergence of
the successive approximations to the QED free energy at large coupling, e ~ 2.
The reorganization is gauge invariant by construction, and due to cancellation
among various contributions, we obtain a completely analytic result for the
resummed thermodynamic potential at three loops. Finally, we compare our result

Mass Expansions of Screened Perturbation Theory
The thermodynamics of massless phi^4-theory is studied within screened
perturbation theory (SPT). In this method the perturbative expansion is
reorganized by adding and subtracting a mass term in the Lagrangian. We
analytically calculate the pressure and entropy to three-loop order and the
screening mass to two-loop order, expanding in powers of m/T. The truncated
m/T-expansion results are compared with numerical SPT results for the pressure,
entropy and screening mass which are accurate to all orders in m/T. It is shown
that the m/T-expansion converges quickly and provides an accurate description
of the thermodynamic functions for large values of the coupling constant.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figure
Screened Perturbation Theory to Three Loops
The thermal physics of a massless scalar field with a phi^4 interaction is
studied within screened perturbation theory (SPT). In this method the
perturbative expansion is reorganized by adding and subtracting a mass term in
the lagrangian. We consider several different mass prescriptions that
generalize the one-loop gap equation to two-loop order. We calculate the
pressure and entropy to three-loop order and the screening mass to two-loop
order. In contrast to the weak-coupling expansion, the SPT-improved
approximations appear to converge even for rather large values of the coupling

Application of a minimum cost flow algorithm to the three-dimensional gauge glass model with screening
We study the three-dimensional gauge glass model in the limit of strong
screening by using a minimum cost flow algorithm, enabling us to obtain EXACT
ground states for systems of linear size L<=48. By calculating the domain-wall
energy, we obtain the stiffness exponent theta = -0.95+/-0.03, indicating the
absence of a finite temperature phase transition, and the thermal exponent
nu=1.05+/-0.03. We discuss the sensitivity of the ground state with respect to
small perturbations of the disorder and determine the overlap length, which is
