Consumers shop at multiple retailers for different needs. It is understood that many choose a retailer for an experience and others will shop at large discount retailer for the better savings aspect. These two retailers are constantly working on improving customer experience as well as trying to increase their sales. In a time where E-commerce is at an all-time high, these two retailers also need to consider how other retailers compare against them in different sales categories. Since March of 2020, the retail world shifted with COVID-19 disrupting the supply chain. As retailers solve ways to keep consumers content and coming back to their stores amidst the supply chain issues, they need to consider the quality of their apparel sectors. As online shopping rises, more online retailers will begin to compete with large retailers like A fast fashion online retailer has seen a rise in popularity in the recent years with its trendy clothing and cheap prices. These three retailers all sell swimwear but give different consumer experiences. As retailers adjust to store and production shortages, it is important to understand how the quality of clothing will keep sales consistent. Consumers are likely to keep shopping at locations where they trust the quality of clothing instead of having to deal with returns and customer service desks. The purpose of this research looks at how consumers view quality of women’s swimwear. As participants of this study examined the three different swimsuits and thought about what “quality” means to them, retailers can use this study to better understand what consumers are looking for when they are shopping. Consumers not only look at branding, pricing, and construction, but overall will judge a garment on how these three factors are combined

Timber Buildings: A Sustainable Construction Alternative

[EN] The construction and building environment is one of the largest contributors to climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, depletion of natural resources and damage to ecological integrity. Therefore, the use of more sustainable materials in construction is currently of great interest. Structural wood is considered as a versatile renewable material, having an optimal strength-to-weight ratio, insulating properties, low carbon emissions in the operational life cycle and a great abundance in nature. Furthermore, unlike other materials, wood is the only one that stores carbon in its production. The purpose of this project is to evaluate, through the Life Cycle Analysis methodology, the environmental impact of the construction of buildings made of timber compared to reinforced concrete buildings, understanding the environmental benefits and disadvantages of each technology. The results obtained from the comparison of a timber building with its concrete counterpart confirm the feasible benefit of wood in the reduction of carbon emissions and non-renewable energy consumption, as well as other positive aspects such as the reduction of other emissions. By highlighting the benefits and opportunities of wood it is intended to promote the material in construction and the development of more efficient buildings. Nuevo Tingo is located in the Tingo district, province of Luya, department of Amazonas. It has 1,265 inhabitants that have been increasing since the new cable car system was inaugurated in 2017, which would simplify the travel route to the Kuelap archaeological complex. This caused the aforementioned town to become a strategic point within the Chachapoyas tourist circuit; but, broadly speaking, wasted as such. Because the cable car bus boarding station is located on the outskirts of the city, the town has become a way station, in which tourists do not spend more time than necessary; in addition to the imminent competition represented as a tourist spot by the inn that was built at the beginning of the archaeological complex, which has a rest area and points of sale for handicrafts run by people from neighboring districts. Different from the tourist aspect, the town of Nuevo Tingo is characterized by its agriculture, which is the main economic force of the town. Currently, the female unemployment rate is one of its biggest problems, in addition to the lack of opportunities for the population due to the infrastructure problems they have, both in their educational institutions and in their communal and cultural nature. This project seeks to promote tourism for the benefit of the population; generating both communal and cultural spaces for the population, as well as spaces that promote tourism in the sector and can be used to improve its economic situation. Also seeking to provide specialized equipment that provides the necessary infrastructure to promote research and conservation of the Kuelap Archaeological Complex. The concept of the relationship between tourism and community is to generate an integration between both and that there is a symbiosis between them. It goes beyond designing just a tourist facility; The main objective is to empower the population both economically and culturally, generate public and recreational spaces, make the Nuevo Tingo town center a place that responds to the opportunities it has and improve the quality of life of its inhabitantsTesi

Chemical Interactions in Antarctic Marine Benthic Ecosystems

    Get PDF
Antarctic marine ecosystems are immersed in an isolated, relatively constant environment where the organisms inhabiting their benthos are mainly sessile suspension feeders. For these reasons, physical and chemical biotic interactions play an essential role in structuring these marine benthic communities (Dayton et al., 1974; Orejas et al., 2000). These interactions may include diverse strategies to avoid predation (e.g. Iken et al., 2002), competition for space or food (e.g. Bowden et al., 2006) and avoiding fouling (e.g. Rittschof, 2001; Peters et al., 2010). For instance, in the marine benthos, one of the most extended effective strategies among sessile soft-bodied organisms is chemical defense, mediated by several bioactive natural products mostly considered secondary metabolites (e.g. Paul et al., 2011). The study of the “chemical network” (chemical ecology interactions) structuring the communities provides information about the ecology and biology of the involved species, the function and the structure of the community and, simultaneously, it may lead to the discovery of new compounds useful to humans for their pharmacological potential (e.g. Avila, 1995; Bhakuni, 1998; Munro et al., 1999; Faulkner, 2000; Lebar et al., 2007; Avila et al., 2008). In the last three decades, the study of marine chemical ecology has experienced great progress, thanks to the new technological advances for collecting and studying marine samples, and the possibility of identification of molecules with smaller amounts of compounds (e.g. Paul et al., 2006, 2011; Blunt et al., 2011)
