Professionalism, golf coaching and a master of science degree
A distinction can be made between 'professionalisation', which is concerned with occupational status and standing, and 'professionalism,' which refers to matters of quality and standards of practice (especially specialized knowledge, ethics and altruism). The purpose of this stimulus article is to present key features of contemporary medical professionalism as a basis for critically reflecting on discourse associated with Tiger Woods' current coach, Sean Foley. It is suggested that that provision of a Master of Science degree in golf teaching/coaching would facilitate the development of 'professionalism' in golf coaches

Novae Ejecta as Colliding Shells
Following on our initial absorption-line analysis of fifteen novae spectra we
present additional evidence for the existence of two distinct components of
novae ejecta having different origins. As argued in Paper I one component is
the rapidly expanding gas ejected from the outer layers of the white dwarf by
the outburst. The second component is pre-existing outer, more slowly expanding
circumbinary gas that represents ejecta from the secondary star or accretion
disk. We present measurements of the emission-line widths that show them to be
significantly narrower than the broad P Cygni profiles that immediately precede
them. The emission profiles of novae in the nebular phase are distinctly
rectangular, i.e., strongly suggestive of emission from a relatively thin,
roughly spherical shell. We thus interpret novae spectral evolution in terms of
the collision between the two components of ejecta, which converts the early
absorption spectrum to an emission-line spectrum within weeks of the outburst.
The narrow emission widths require the outer circumbinary gas to be much more
massive than the white dwarf ejecta, thereby slowing the latter's expansion
upon collision. The presence of a large reservoir of circumbinary gas at the
time of outburst is suggestive that novae outbursts may sometime be triggered
by collapse of gas onto the white dwarf, as occurs for dwarf novae, rather than

A dimensionally continued Poisson summation formula
We generalize the standard Poisson summation formula for lattices so that it
operates on the level of theta series, allowing us to introduce noninteger
dimension parameters (using the dimensionally continued Fourier transform).
When combined with one of the proofs of the Jacobi imaginary transformation of
theta functions that does not use the Poisson summation formula, our proof of
this generalized Poisson summation formula also provides a new proof of the
standard Poisson summation formula for dimensions greater than 2 (with
appropriate hypotheses on the function being summed). In general, our methods
work to establish the (Voronoi) summation formulae associated with functions
satisfying (modular) transformations of the Jacobi imaginary type by means of a
density argument (as opposed to the usual Mellin transform approach). In
particular, we construct a family of generalized theta series from Jacobi theta
functions from which these summation formulae can be obtained. This family
contains several families of modular forms, but is significantly more general
than any of them. Our result also relaxes several of the hypotheses in the
standard statements of these summation formulae. The density result we prove

Extragalactic neutrino background from very young pulsars surrounded by supernova envelopes
We estimate the extragalactic muon neutrino background which is produced by
hadrons injected by very young pulsars at an early phase after supernova
explosion. It is assumed that hadrons are accelerated in the pulsar wind zone
which is filled with thermal photons captured below the expanding supernova
envelope. In collisions with those thermal photons hadrons produce pions which
decay into muon neutrinos. At a later time, muon neutrinos are also produced by
the hadrons in collisions with matter of the expanding envelope. We show that
extragalactic neutrino background predicted by such a model should be
detectable by the planned 1 km neutrino detector if a significant part of
pulsars is born with periods shorter than ms. Since such population
of pulsars is postulated by the recent models of production of extremely high
energy cosmic rays, detection of neutrinos with predicted fluxes can be used as

Counting children with tuberculosis: why numbers matter.
In the last 5 years, childhood tuberculosis (TB) has received increasing attention from international organisations, national TB programmes and academics. For the first time, a number of different groups are developing techniques to estimate the burden of childhood TB. We review the challenges in diagnosing TB in children and the reasons why cases in children can go unreported. We discuss the importance of an accurate understanding of burden for identifying problems in programme delivery, targeting interventions, monitoring trends, setting targets, allocating resources appropriately and providing strong advocacy. We briefly review the estimates produced by new analytical methods, and outline the reasons for recent improvements in our understanding and potential future directions. We conclude that while innovation, collaboration and better data have improved our understanding of the childhood TB burden, it remains substantially incomplete
Granular Solid Hydrodynamics
Granular elasticity, an elasticity theory useful for calculating static
stress distribution in granular media, is generalized to the dynamic case by
including the plastic contribution of the strain. A complete hydrodynamic
theory is derived based on the hypothesis that granular medium turns
transiently elastic when deformed. This theory includes both the true and the
granular temperatures, and employs a free energy expression that encapsulates a
full jamming phase diagram, in the space spanned by pressure, shear stress,
density and granular temperature. For the special case of stationary granular
temperatures, the derived hydrodynamic theory reduces to {\em hypoplasticity},

Markets and marketing research on poverty and its alleviation: Summarizing an evolving logic toward human capabilities, well-being goals and transformation
Marketing practitioners and business scholars now view some of the world’s poorest communities as profitable growth markets. Hence a market-based approach to poverty alleviation has gathered momentum. This article traces the evolution of such a market-based approach over four decades and highlights a gradual trend away from a deficit-reduction approach (focused on constraints and justice) towards an opportunity-expansion approach (focused on capabilities and well-being). This trend is summarized in an analytical framework of human capabilities, well-being goals and transformative impact evolved from the literature. The framework is then used to analyse the practice of sanitation marketing, which has emerged as a key method in one of the highest priority domains in international development discourse – sanitation. The article concludes with a discussion of how contemporary work can further take forward the key tenets of the framework and guide the development of ‘good markets’ for the poor
Priorities for mitigating greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions to meet UK policy targets
Agriculture is essential for providing food and maintaining food security while concurrently delivering multiple other ecosystem services. However, agricultural systems are generally a net source of greenhouse gases and ammonia. They, therefore, need to substantively contribute to climate change mitigation and net zero ambitions. It is widely acknowledged that there is a need to further reduce and mitigate emissions across sectors, including agriculture to address the climate emergency and emissions gap. This discussion paper outlines a collation of opinions from a range of experts within agricultural research and advisory roles following a greenhouse gas and ammonia emission mitigation workshop held in the UK in March 2022. The meeting identified the top mitigation priorities within the UK’s agricultural sector to achieve reductions in greenhouse gases and ammonia that are compatible with policy targets. In addition, experts provided an overview of what they believe are the key knowledge gaps, future opportunities and co-benefits to mitigation practices as well as indicating the potential barriers to uptake for mitigation scenarios discussed
