A Nonabelian Particle-Vortex Duality
We define a nonabelian particle-vortex duality as a dimensional analogue
of the usual dimensional worldsheet nonabelian T-duality. The
transformation is defined in the presence of a global symmetry and,
although derived from a string theoretic setting, we formulate it generally. We
then apply it to so-called "semilocal strings" in an
gauge theory, originally discovered in the context of cosmic string physics.Comment: 5 pages, no figures; explicit example corrected, typos correcte
A giant graviton genealogy
In this article we extend the construction of giant gravitons from
holomorphic surfaces [arXiv:hep-th/0010206] to the ABJM correspondence. We
construct a new class of 1/6-BPS M5-branes wrapping 5-manifolds in S^7/Z_k and
supported by a large angular momentum in the orbifold space. These orbifold
giant gravitons undergo a supersymmetry enhancement to 1/3-BPS and 1/2-BPS
configurations in special cases. The compactification of M-theory on AdS_4 x
S^7/Z_k to type IIA superstring theory on AdS_4 x CP^3 then gives rise to
another new class of 1/6-BPS D4 and NS5-branes wrapping 4 and 5-manifolds in
CP^3. The D4-branes carry a combination of D0-brane charge and angular momentum
in the complex projective space, while the NS5-branes are supported only by
D0-brane charge. Finally, we present a detailed analysis of a one-parameter
family of 1/2-BPS M5-brane orbifold giant gravitons, and their D4 and NS5-brane
CP^3 descendants.Comment: 34 pages; 1 figure; minor revisions; references adde
The Information Metric on the moduli space of instantons with global symmetries
In this note we revisit Hitchin's prescription \cite{Hitchin} of the Fisher
metric as a natural measure on the moduli space of instantons that encodes the
space-time symmetries of a classical field theory. Motivated by the idea of the
moduli space of supersymmetric instantons as an emergent space in the sense of
the gauge/gravity duality, we extend the prescription to encode also global
symmetries of the underlying theory. We exemplify our construction with the
instanton solution of the sigma model on .Comment: 5 pages, no figures, sorr
Nonrelativistic limit of the abelianized ABJM model and the ADS/CMT correspondence
We consider the nonrelativistic limit of the abelian reduction of the massive
ABJM model proposed in \cite{Mohammed:2012gi}, obtaining a supersymmetric
version of the Jackiw-Pi model. The system exhibits an
Super-Schr\"odinger symmetry with the Jackiw-Pi vortices emerging as BPS
solutions. We find that this -dimensional abelian field theory is dual
to a certain (3+1)-dimensional gravity theory that differs somewhat from
previously considered abelian condensed matter stand-ins for the ABJM model. We
close by commenting on progress in the top-down realization of the AdS/CMT
correspondence in a critical string theory.Comment: 24 pages, no figures; clarifying remarks added, references added,
