    Prevalence Of Musculoskeletal Disorders In Patients Undergoing Haemodialysis in a Tertiary Care Hospital: A Cross-sectional study

    Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant public health problem. Dialysis is the mainstream method of treatment in these patients. This causes the patients to have a monotonous and restricted daily life, joint pain, limiting their activities after treatment onset. Hence this study was carried out to find the prevalence of common musculoskeletal disorders in patients undergoing haemodialysis in a tertiary care hospital. Method: 50 participants undergoing dialysis in a tertiary care hospital under the age group of 18-70 years diagnosed with stage V CKD were included using convenient sampling. They were assessed using Nordic Questionnaire to locate the different areas of pain. Result: The first group consisted of 41 participants who underwent dialysis from 2- 41 months. Body regions commonly affected in the last 7 days were low back 25(60.97%); neck 21(51.21%); shoulder 15(36.58%); elbow 14(34.14%) in the extremity with arteriovenous fistula; upper back 14(34.14%); hips/thighs, knees 9(21.95); wrist/hands 7(17.07%) in the extremity with arteriovenous fistula; ankle/feet 6(14.63%). The second group consisted of 9 participants who underwent dialysis from 42-84 months. Body regions commonly affected in the last 7 days were low back 8(88.88%); upper back 7(77.77%); hip/thigh 6(66.66%); neck, knee 5(55.55%); elbow 4(44.44%) in the extremity with arteriovenous fistula; shoulder, ankle/feet, wrist/hands 3(33.33%). Conclusion: The study concluded that the highest prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in the participants undergoing haemodialysis was low back pain (66%) followed by neck (52%), upper back (42%), shoulder (36%), elbow (36%), hips/thighs (30%), knees (28%), wrist/hands (20%) and ankle/feet pain (18%)

    A Study on Information Seeking Behavior of the Medical and Allied College Students in Goa State

    This paper attempts to explore the information seeking behavior of medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and homeopathic colleges in goa state. The purpose of the study is to know the awareness and use of reference sources available in the library and to know the preference of media as a source of information for their requirement. Results found that, still 95 percent respondents refer/depend upon printed books for their information needs. Only 49 percent students are happy with the internet and online resources available in their college libraries. Further researcher suggested that, the library orientation has to be conducted regularly to convert another 30 percent students to make use of their college library by giving more importance to electronic sources and services

    Impact of heavy metals on water, fish (Cyprinus carpio) and sediments from a water tank at Tumkur, India

    This study was carried out to assess the concentrations of various heavy metals and their distribution in a hyper-eutrophic urban Tumkur tank system, which is being polluted from industrial, domestic and sewage effluents. Samples of water, fish and soil sediment were analyzed for the concentration of seven heavy metals (iron, zinc, copper, nickel, chromium, lead and cadmium) using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The water-soluble (bioavailable) fractions of heavy metals correlated positively with their total concentration, exhibiting the following sequence of bioavailability: Zn > Cd > Ni > Pb > Cu > Cr > Fe. Cyprinus carpio exhibited a maximum bioaccumulation factor for copper (5500). The mean values of all types of collected samples were correlated with the corresponding mean values in a control tank (Teetha tank). The sequence of the order of the concentration of the metals in water, fish and sediment samples exhibiting higher values than those observed in the control tank was as follows: Cr > Pb > Cu ≈ Ni > Fe > Cd > Zn, Cr > Cd > Cu ≈ Zn > Pb > Fe ≈ Ni and Fe > Pb > Cr > Cu > Ni > Zn > Cd, respectively. The geoaccumulation indices of the heavy metals revealed that the tank is moderately to strongly contaminated. As Cyprinus carpio is extensively used for human consumption, there is a growing health risk that these metals could find their way into the human food chain

    Research Contributions of SAARC Countries in Social Science: A Bibliometric Study

    SCI mago is the Journal and Country Ranking database available freely on the internet. We have accessed the required data from 2008 to 2017 from this database and evaluated the research productivity of SAARC countries and citations in the field of social science subject. This article studied SAARC countries publications, citations, citations per document, self-citations and degree of self – citations. The study revealed that on an average 6054 articles are published during the study period. India is the only country to publish more than the average citations publications during the ten years of study. India received 78% of citations and stood 1st rank in the study, whereas Pakistan and Bangladesh got 8% and 6% citations and stood 2nd and 3rd rank. Nepal got highest 76% of citations per document and stood 1st rank among the SAARC countries in the last ten years from 2008 to 2017. Further, it is found that the degree of self-citation is 0.24, which is very lowest. Since all the SAARC countries are underdeveloped so it is suggested that the government of SAARC countries has to encourage more and more publications, then only their socio-economic level may increase. Individuals, as well as organisations, should take more interest to publish their research articles in high impact journals both at national and international level

    In industries such as oil, gas plant and steel plants be accompanied among large amount of heat and that may not be utilized for the plant operation. This wasted heat energy is able to be utilized for supplementary power production. The water flow system over the heating unit may produce the steam and is used for supplementary power production. During this process, high quantity of coolant in the plant is circulated under low temperature and it may reduce the frequency level in the system when the turbine speed decreases. In this project, the flywheel mechanism is suggested to beat this trouble. Flywheel is an automatic machine that can responds in short time and is used to store turning force. The energy storage flywheel is planned to connect on breaker, which will compensate the variation frequency, and it will be maintained as constant. The proposed method will be verified with MATLAB/Simulink model

    First-principles calculations of step formation energies and step interactions on TiN(001)

    We study the formation energies and repulsive interactions of monatomic steps on the TiN(001) surface, using density functional total-energy calculations. The calculated formation energy of [100] oriented steps agree well with recently reported experimental values; these steps are shown to have a rumpled structure, with the Ti atoms undergoing larger displacements than the N atoms. For steps that are parallel to [110], our calculations predict a nitrogen (N) termination, as the corresponding formation energy is several hundred meV/\AA \ smaller than that of Ti-terminated steps

    Bunching Transitions on Vicinal Surfaces and Quantum N-mers

    We study vicinal crystal surfaces with the terrace-step-kink model on a discrete lattice. Including both a short-ranged attractive interaction and a long-ranged repulsive interaction arising from elastic forces, we discover a series of phases in which steps coalesce into bunches of n steps each. The value of n varies with temperature and the ratio of short to long range interaction strengths. We propose that the bunch phases have been observed in very recent experiments on Si surfaces. Within the context of a mapping of the model to a system of bosons on a 1D lattice, the bunch phases appear as quantum n-mers.Comment: 5 pages, RevTex; to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
