Perspectives for foreign language teachers’ professional development in the German-Polish border region

The aim of the paper is to identify key areas as well as to offer an overview of significant topics that should be addressed within training for foreign language teachers, enabling them to use the educational potential of the German-Polish border region in intercultural foreign languages teaching. In order to achieve this goal, in the first part of the paper the main concepts of pupiloriented education in a border region will be described (i.e. cross-border cooperation, learner-orientation, region-orientation, participation, sustainability, and competence for successful living and communicating in a border region), as they give insights into the essential fields of knowledge and skills that should be aimed at in terms of teacher-oriented activities during the process of professionalisation. On this basis, in the second part of the article, concrete recommendations on priority topics within the professional development of foreign language teachers will be made, according to the specific educational potential of the German-Polish border region

Interkulturelle Literatur im Studium der Angewandten Linguistik – Erfahrungen und didaktisch-methodische Reflexionen

Migration und ihre gesellschaftlich-kulturellen Folgen, darunter multikulturelle Identitäten, Mehrsprachigkeit und Herausforderungen der Interkulturalität, sind zum alltäglichen Element des Lebens in Deutschland geworden, und Literatur, die diese Erscheinungen thematisiert, gehört inzwischen zu den wichtigsten Genres der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur. Unter anderem aus diesem Grund sollten die oben genannten Phänomene in neuphilologischen Studiengängen mit der Unterrichtssprache Deutsch außerhalb der deutschsprachigen Länder selbst behandelt werden. In dem vorliegenden Beitrag werden Erfahrungen und Arbeitsergebnisse aus dem Seminar „Interkulturelle Literatur“ beschrieben, das Studierenden der Angewandten Linguistik der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universität Poznań seit dem Wintersemester 2014/2015 angeboten wird. Es wird vor allem der Frage nachgegangen, welche Problembereiche und Potentiale sich aus der Beschäftigung mit interkultureller Literatur ergeben und welche didaktisch-methodischen Maßnahmen sich in der Arbeit mit Texten interkultureller Literatur bewährt haben

That is why, among other things, they should be dealt with in the German studies. The present paper describes experiences and results of work in the seminar “Intercultural Literature” that is offered in the studies of applied linguistics at the Adam-Mickiewicz-University Poznań since the winter term 2014/2015. It is primarily looked into what problem areas and potentials are there in the study of intercultural literature and which didactical and methodical approaches were successful in dealing with intercultural literature.

Intersektionelle Filmanalyse in der fremdsprachigen Kulturdidaktik am Beispiel des MigrantInnenbildes in ausgewählten Culture-Clash-Komödien

The aim of the following paper is to discuss the image of migrants presented inselected culture-clash comedies, and its didactical contribution to transcultural learning. The intersectional analysis of three film sequences conducted in the framework of university classes (seminars and workshops) on intercultural communication is described as a starting point for discussion and reflection upon the stereotyped, and popularised images of migrants as people with specific qualities and skills, certain social backgrounds, and typical patterns of behaviour. The critical analysis of such images supports transcultural learning, which is understood, among others, as bringing aspects of the development of individual as well as collective identities into question, and acknowledging heterogeneity and diversity as cultural and social enrichment

Migration as a Site of Memory? An Interdisciplinary Topic and its Implications for German as a Foreign Language

The following article discusses the potentials of sites of memory of migration as a topic for teaching German as a foreign language, as they do not seem to have been thoroughly and systematically investigated or reflected upon so far. In the first part of the paper, the theoretical frames for combining the topic of migration with the concept of sites of memory are presented. In the second part, examples of ways of working with specific topics and media on sites of memory of migration in German as a foreign language classes are given and their possible potentials for supporting reflective cultural learning are examined
