Cointegrated money in production function: evidence from a developing country

    Get PDF
The notion that real money balances is a factor input has attracted considerable amount of attention from researchers and academicians. However, the debate is controversial and the consensus has yet to be developed. This issue becomes more important when a country follows contractionary monetary policy to curb inflation. The limited research for developing countries with sophisticated econometric techniques powered us to conduct this study. The underlying study employs cointegration approach to investigate the validity of money in production function of a developing country for the period 1964-2008. The cointegration results confirm money as an important factor input in the production function in the long run. The variance decomposition results surface money as greater contributor than labor and capital to output variability.Money, Production Function, Cointegration

The Relationship between Public Service Motivation and Work Performance: A study in Finnish public organizations

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to scrutinize the relationship between public service motivation and work performance by engaging three dimensions which include determination of motivational factors, impact of public service motivation on work performance and identification of motivated employees. Quantitative research method was adopted. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Finnish public organizations to collect the research data. Descriptive statistics and statistical mean were applied in data analysis to draw the results. The research potentially contributes to the field of public service motivation in relation to employee performance. It presents the construct of public service motivation in relation to work performance with three dimensions. The multidimensionality of the study was transformed into a PSM-Performance research model. It offered a PSM-Performance measurement scale to the research field. The study found a positive relationship between public service motivation and work performance. It further finds that there are several motivating factors which stimulate employee behavior to produce higher performance. Mostly of the public employees were found motivated in the subject Finnish public organizations. It confirms the previous studies on the importance of public service motivation. The public managers may consider the results of the study to focus on strong areas and to cope with weak areas regarding PSM and performance in their organizations. This thesis study points out new research directions in organizational perspective for the public managers and researchers. It suggests to public organizations for recognizing the link between PSM and work performance.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format

Applying the factor analytical approach towards aaker’s brand personality model from an Islamic perspective

    Get PDF
Given current technologies, marketers are employing several techniques to differentiate their brands from others due to intense competition and low switching cost. Brand personality is one is one such approach. Aaker’s brand personality model with its five dimensions (sincerity, excitement, competence, sophistication, and ruggedness) has been used extensively in the field of marketing. Despite considerable research on Aaker’s model, scholars have also criticised it based on issues such as generalisability across countries and cultures. Considering religion an important yet ignored element of culture, this paper highlights the criticism on Aaker’s model from which we propose an Islamic brand personality model that we empirically test using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Six factors emerged during EFA with a cumulative variance of 67.389 per cent. As per the findings, three new dimensions (humbleness, cooperation, trustworthiness, and justice) appeared during the analysis along with few pre-existing factors such as sincerity, competence, and excitement. Interestingly, the new dimension of trustworthiness and justice resulted in the highest contribution in terms of reliability and percentage of variance i.e. 0.90 and 13.859, respectively. The Islamic brand personality model can be applied on Islamic brands/organisations in order to evaluate their brand personality which will ultimately help marketers position their brands effectively

COMPARISON BETWEEN THE EFFECTS OF THYMOQUINONE OBTAINED FROM THE SEEDS OF NIGELLA SATIVA AND VERAPAMIL ON THE VOLUME AND ACIDITY OF GASTRIC ACID SECRETION

Background and Objectives: The over production of gastric acid results in peptic ulcer. This study was done to compare the effects of thymoquinone and Verapamil on volume and acidity of carbachol induced gastric secretion. Methods: There were 24 rabbits used, weighing 1-1.5 kg. The rabbits were kept on fasting for 48 hours. After fasting, the pylorus of each rabbit was ligated. Thymoquinone 5 mg/kg, Carbachol 600mg/kg and Verapamil 10 mg/kg body weight were administered intraperitoneally. Pylorus ligation method was used for getting gastric contents and titration method was used for finding out acidity. Results: Verapamil has been proved very effective for the treatment of many diseases. The drug verapamil inhibits the release of histamine, acetylcholine and gastrin. Verapamil has also shown effects in reducing the secretion of gastric acid. It was found that Thymoquinone reduced the volume, free and total acidity of gastric secretion, which were statistically highly significant when compared with Carbachol (P=0.000) but when we compared the results of Thymoquinones with that of Verapamil, it was non-significant. Conclusions:   It was concluded that Thymoquinone can be used for the treatment of peptic ulcer and all other diseases which are caused by increased gastric acidity like dyspepsia, gastritis and reflux esophagitis.                             Peer Review History: Received 8 July 2020; Revised 14 August; Accepted 6 September, Available online 16 September 2020 Academic Editor: Dr. Muhammad Zahid Iqbal, AIMST University, Malaysia, [email protected] UJPR follows the most transparent and toughest ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ system. Why do you adopt social networking sites? Investigating the driving factors through structural equation modelling

    Get PDF
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate those factors that are associated with the adoption of social networking sites from the perspective of Muslimusers residing in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach – A complete self-administered questionnaire was collected from 223 Muslim users of social networking sites in Malaysia. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to sort the significant items for the constructs and to check the validity. Structural equation modelling was applied in testing the hypotheses and the fitness of the proposed model. Findings – The results of full structural model attest that technological and social factors are the most significant factors behind the adoption of social networking sites. However, this is followed by an educational factor. Among Muslim users in Malaysia, the study does not find significant influence of brand or product communication behind this adoption. Originality/value – The paper investigates those factors that are considered inevitable in the adoption of social networking sites. Invaluable findings were offered in the form of a structural model for the stakeholders of social networking sties. These findings can be used in planning and making decisions that may benefit all parties associated with it
