miRNAs in Glioblastoma Multiforme: A Brief Review

    Get PDF
miRNAs are endogenous small noncoding RNAs that can regulate many cellular processes. Different expression levels of several miRNAs have been detected in glioblastomas. Function of miRNAs and targets have been well studied in recent years. According to these studies, the role of miRNAs in glioblastoma pathogenesis have been defined. miRNAs have affected many processes in GBM such as apoptosis, proliferation, angiogenesis, invasion and cell cycle regulation. In this review, we summarize the information of different miRNAs functions in glioblastoma

Medicinal plants: Past history and future perspective

Human societies have been in close contact with their environments since the beginning of their formation and used the ingredients of the environment to obtain food and medicine. Awareness and application of plants to prepare food and medicine have been realized through trial and error, and gradually human became able to meet his needs from his surroundings. Information about medicinal plants has long been transmitted gradually and from generation to generation, a human knowledge has gradually become complete with the formation of civilizations and the provision of more facilities. Medicinal plants are used as a medical resource in almost all cultures. Ensuring the safety, quality and effectiveness of medicinal plants and herbal drugs very recently became a key issue in industrialized and developing countries. By standardizing and evaluating the health of active plant-derived compounds, herbal drugs can help the emergence of a new era of the healthcare system to treat human diseases in the future. Awareness of traditional knowledge and medicinal plants can play a key role in the exploitation and discovery of natural plant resources. In order to maintain this knowledge, comprehensive approach and collaboration are needed to maintain historical records on medicinal plants and use these resources in favour of human beings, before they are destroyed forever. Therefore, this review was conducted to investigate and describe the process of using medicinal plants throughout history. This review focuses on the recent various important challenges in quality evaluation of medicinal plants in the authenticity, efficacy, toxicity and consistenc

The textile industry produces a large amount of polluted effluents discharged into the environment. Therefore, this research was carried out to compare the efficiency of removal of Reactive red 198 (RR–198) dye by fenton and photo–fenton processes and determine the optimal conditions for maximum removal. This study was conducted on a laboratory scale. The effect of influential parameters, including pH (3–9), Fe(II) concentration (10–200mg/L), H2O2 concentration (25–150mg/L), dye concentration (50–200mg/L) and reaction time (15–90min.) on dye removal was investigated and the optimal conditions were determined according to the maximum dye removal efficiency. The results indicated that the dye removal rate increased as the pH and Fe(II) concentration decreased. The optimal conditions for RR–198 removals from the aqueous solution are pH of 3, Fe (II) concentration of 10mg/L, H2O2 concentration of 50mg/L, the initial dye concentration of 50mg/L, and the reaction time of 15min.. The maximum dye removal efficiency under optimal conditions was 98.82%. The results of this study revealed that the photo–fenton process was superior to the removal of dye compared to fenton process

Objectives: Suicide is a serious public health problem, especially among students as active members of the community. The present study aimed to determine the correlation among personality characteristics, family functioning, and suicidal ideation in students of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran in 2018. Materials and Methods: The population of this descriptive correlational study included all 675 students of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, from whom 244 students were selected using stratified random sampling. The required data was collected using four questionnaires, including demographic characteristics, personality traits, family functioning, and Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (BSSI). To analyze data, we used multiple linear regression and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, version 22). Results: Examination of personality traits suggested that the correlation between psychosis and suicidal thoughts was positive and significant (P<0.05). The correlation coefficients between the components of extraversion-introversion, agreeability, and responsibility and suicidal ideation were negative and significant (P<0.05). There was also a positive and significant relationship between all components of family functioning and suicidal ideation (P<0.05). Conclusions: Effective steps can be taken to prevent suicide among students through providing optimal psychological healthcare and periodic screening of students in terms of suicidal thoughts and mental disorders

The effect of perineal massage on labor second stage period perineal tear and its outcomes

Background and aims: Long liness second stage of labor may cause fatigue and discomfort for women. Most of the women experience perineal injury and perineal pain during vaginal delivery. Perineal pain makes the mother too weak to take care their babies. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectivness of perineal massage on labor secound stage period, intact perineal, episiotomy and intensity of perinal pain. Methods: This clinical trial study was performed on 141 nulliparous women (71 massages and 70 control group) who referred to Koohdasht Imam Khomeini hospital for normal vaginal delivery. Countinuous sampling method with random assignment was conducted. In massage group the there cervical dilatation (6-7) was used cm after dipping the pointing and middel fingers in to a lubricating substance (key jell) then dipping 4-5 cm offingers in to the vaginal of the parturing women massaging between 3 to 9 oclock alternatively. Questionnaire and code sheets were used for data collection. Data were analysied by SPSS version 14. Results: The mean length of second stage of labor in massage group was 58.16 ± 28.22 and in control group was 57.07 ± 28.93 minutes, the difference between the two groups was not significant (P=0.723). In the massage group the prevalauce of safe perineal, was 29.6%, episiotomy 32.4% and perineal tear was 38%. In the control group the prevalance of safe perineal was 11.4%, episiotomy 67.1% and perineal tear was 21.4%. Perineal pain on the third day of postpartum in massage group was 50.7% and in control group was 70% (P=0.019). Perineal pain on the tenth day postpartum in massage group was 29.6%, and in control group was 45.7% (P=0.048). There was a significant difference between the two groups comparing perineal pain, but there was no significant difference comparing the pain inteasty between the two groups (the third day P=0.036), (the thenth day P=0.390). Conclusion: The study shows that perineal massage is effective in increasing the likelihood of intact perineume and in decreasing the perineal pain

The influence of cellulose pulp and cellulose microfibers on the flexural performance of green-engineered cementitious composites

The aim of this study was to investigate the flexural behavior of engineered cementitious composites (ECCs) reinforced by cellulose pulp (CP) and cellulose microfibers (CMF). The reinforcements were obtained from chemical-mechanical treatments of Kraft paper and used in ECC mix design. Results showed that cement reinforced by CP exhibited a strain-hardening behavior in the three-point bending test, while CMF led to a brittle behavior in cement composites. Moreover, different hybrid combinations of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and CMF  achieved quite a high strength while maintaining a high level of flexural toughness. A combination of 0.5 vol% CMF and 1.5 vol% PVA resulted in a significant increase in flexural toughness and a slight improvement in flexural strength. The properties of this hybrid composite were comparable with one containing 2 vol% of PVA fiber
