An Empirical Examination of the Composition of Vocational Interest in Business Colleges: MIS vs. Other Majors
Given the diminishing number of Management Information Systems (MIS) majors, an understanding of the factors which influence student choice of major is crucial. It has been noted in many previous studies that interest in a major and career significantly influences the student’s choice of college major; indeed, in most studies, it is the strongest influence. Yet extant studies treat interest as a one-dimensional construct; in fact, interest is multi-dimensional, that is, it is comprised of many factors. This study examines the construct of interest and in particular the factors which contribute to vocational interest among business college majors. Using a sample of 452, it compares and contrasts the significant influences on vocational interest among two groups: MIS majors and non-MIS business majors. Findings indicate both similarities and differences between the two groups, leading to constructive recommendations for increasing interest in MIS with the intention of increasing the number of majors
STCW water survival training needs basic swim evaluation
The study reveals the current supplemental water survival training best practices of American, Spanish and Japanese maritime universities. This research reviews ongoing institutional training above the required STCW practical assessments, Table A-VI/1 and NVIC 08-14. The purpose of this paper is to highlight and share the best practices of participating schools. This vital supplemental training showcased in this study is meant to promote this accessory training throughout all maritime universities. Additionally, the study encourages further discussion on how much supplemental training is needed for today’s mariners. This research will give administrators and instructors valuable insight into their counterparts training methods. The analysis reveals each participating school’s rationale involving the supplemental training. Moreover, the level of importance given to this training in their curriculum and academic schedules. The study reviews training methods, equipment and whether there is an emphasis on swim instruction. The paper intends to be a water survival reference guide, imparting training policies and procedures wherever possible
Overview of NASA's Microgravity Materials Program
The NASA Microgravity Materials Program currently funds 19 grants involving the development of experiments to be conducted on the International Space Station (ISS). These experiments are designed to utilize facilities built by partner agencies, primarily the European Space Agency. These facilities include furnace inserts to the Materials Science Research Rack, the Electro-Magnetic Levitator, and the Device for the study of Critical Liquids and Crystallization (DECLIC) facility. Projects are funded either through proposals responding to NASA announcements or unsolicited proposals associated with an international collaboration that is partially funded by a partner agency. An overview of the research content of the program, how potential investigations are solicited, reviewed and funded, and the operations of the ISS facilities is provided

The Letter of Credit as Security for Completion of Streets, Sidewalks, and Other Bonded Municipal Improvements
When approving a land development project, municipalities require assurance that developers will construct the required public improvements, and that in the event of default, the surety will be responsive, so that the project will be completed promptly, without risk to the municipal treasury. A form of guarantee sometimes used is the letter of credit. The case law involving public improvement letters of credit is sparse, yet the contingent liability to municipalities from defaulted land developments, with illusory sureties, should not be underestimated
