Joint Image and Pupil Plane Reconstruction Algorithm based on Bayesian Techniques

    Get PDF
The focus of this research was to develop an joint pupil and focal plane image recovery algorithm for use with coherent LADAR systems. The benefits of such a system would include increased resolution with little or no increase in system weight and volume as well as allowing for operation in the absence of natural light since the target of interest would be actively illuminated. Since a pupil plane collection aperture can be conformal, such a system would also potentially allow for the formation of large synthetic apertures. The system is demonstrated to be robust and in all but extreme cases yield better results than algorithms using a single data set (such as deconvolution). It was shown that the joint algorithm had a resolution increase of 70% over deconvolution alone and a 40% increase over traditional pupil plane algorithms. It is also demonstrated that the new algorithm does not suffer as severely from stagnation problems typical with pupil plane algorithms

    Shuttle Payload Processing At KSC

    Get PDF
This paper presents the current baseline concept for processing payloads and payload elements at the Shuttle launch site. Processing flows for various payloads will be presented from arrival at KSC/CCAFS through installation into the Shuttle Orbiter. Horizontal installation in the Orbiter Processing Facility and vertical removal and/or installation at the Pad will be presented. Special emphasis will be given to facilities/ equipment required for payload handling, transportation and access. Support capabilities of the Payload Transportation Canister and the Pay Payload Changeout Room will be included

Modal control of an oblique wing aircraft

    Get PDF
A linear modal control algorithm is applied to the NASA Oblique Wing Research Aircraft (OWRA). The control law is evaluated using a detailed nonlinear flight simulation. It is shown that the modal control law attenuates the coupling and nonlinear aerodynamics of the oblique wing and remains stable during control saturation caused by large command inputs or large external disturbances. The technique controls each natural mode independently allowing single-input/single-output techniques to be applied to multiple-input/multiple-output systems

Utilizing Credit Reports for Employment Purposes: A Legal Bait and Switch Tactic

In our previous article, Holding Credit Reporting Agencies Accountable: How the Financial Crisis May be Contributing to Improving Accuracy in Credit Reporting we reviewed the legal history of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), its amendments, and the federal case law by circuit. We suggested that the ability of consumers to ensure the accuracy and security of their credit reports might lead to an expansion of the litigation surrounding accurate credit reporting. This article takes the discussion further by exploring the ever-expanding use of credit reports in the employment law arena. We review the state legislation limiting the use of credit reports by employers, the exceptions to these state statutes, and litigation related to those laws to date. This analysis is followed by an examination of the federal legal landscape and broader legal issues related to the use of credit reports, including whether the use of credit reports by employers discriminates against various protected groups. We conclude with a summary of our research, draw conclusions, and point to areas that should be explored in the future, and also speculate, based on a case from the US Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit that we discuss, that this consequence could once again operate to increase the accuracy of credit reporting and hold those agencies more accountable
