Spin diffusion of the t-J model

The spin-diffusion constant of the 2D tJt-J model is calculated for the first time using an analytical approach at high temperatures and a recently-developed numerical method based on the Lanczos technique combined with random sampling in the intermediate temperature regime. A simple relation, σ=Dsχ\sigma = D_s\chi, between spin conductivity and spin diffusion is established and used to calculate the latter. In the high-temperature and low-doping limit the calculated diffusion constant agrees with known results for the Heisenberg model. At small hole doping, DsD_s increases approximately linearly with doping, which leads us to an important conclusion that hopping processes enhance spin diffusion at high temperatures. At modest hole doping, δ0.25\delta\sim 0.25, diffusion exhibits a nonmonotonic temperature dependence, which indicates anomalous spin dynamics at small frequencies.Comment: 12 pages with figure

Towards Explaining Growth of Private and Public services in the Emerging Market Economies

    Get PDF
The employment in public and private services in Emerging Market Economies (EME) has undergone disparate patterns of change during the transition. The paper reveals the main determinants of employment growth in different service groups in the period 1995-2008. Standard variables (per capita income, productivity gap and government expenditure) provide insufficient explanation for the increasing share of services employment while transition reforms indicators exert statistically significant influence. Estimations differ substantially for public, mixed and private services. Deviations from the theoretical framework and patterns in developed economies are observed that need to take into account path dependency of the convergence process of emerging market economies in major service groups. The findings are inconclusive and call for the extension of research towards additional explanatory factors and improvement of data set.employment growth, tertiarisation, public services, private services, transition

Superquadrics for segmentation and modeling range data

    Get PDF
We present a novel approach to reliable and efficient recovery of part-descriptions in terms of superquadric models from range data. We show that superquadrics can directly be recovered from unsegmented data, thus avoiding any presegmentation steps (e.g., in terms of surfaces). The approach is based on the recover-andselect paradigm. We present several experiments on real and synthetic range images, where we demonstrate the stability of the results with respect to viewpoint and noise

On the Number of Hamiltonian Groups

Finite hamiltonian groups are counted. The sequence of numbers of all groups of order nn all whose subgroups are normal and the sequence of numbers of all groups of order less or equal to nn all whose subgroups are normal are presented.Comment: 6 pages, 8 table

Productivity growth and functional upgrading in foreign subsidiaries in the Slovenian manufacturing sector

    Get PDF
The paper discusses the determinants of productivity growth in manufacturing foreign subsidiaries in Slovenia. Special attention is given to the impact of control pattern. Using the standard growth accounting approach we show that productivity growth is significantly and positively correlated with the level of foreign parent companies' control of marketing and strategic business functions. Larger subsidiaries and subsidiaries with higher exports to sales ratio also experience higher changes in the productivity level. Subsidiaries in high technology intensity sectors exhibit significantly lower change in productivity than subsidiaries in other sectors

Assessing Benefits of Business Intelligence Systems – A Case Study

    Get PDF
Several arguments can be found in business intelligence literature that the use of business intelligence systems can bring multiple benefits, for example, via faster and easier access to information, savings in information technology (‘IT’) and greater customer satisfaction all the way through to the improved competitiveness of enterprises. Yet, most of these benefits are often very difficult to measure because of their indirect and delayed effects on business success. On top of the difficulties in justifying investments in information technology (‘IT’), particularly business intelligence (‘BI’), business executives generally want to know whether the investment is worth the money and if it can be economically justified. In looking for an answer to this question, various methods of evaluating investments can be employed. We can use the classic return on investment (‘ROI’) calculation, cost-benefit analysis, the net present value (‘NPV’) method, the internal rate of return (‘IRR’) and others. However, it often appears in business practice that the use of these methods alone is inappropriate, insufficient or unfeasible for evaluating an investment in business intelligence systems. Therefore, for this purpose, more appropriate methods are those based mainly on a qualitative approach, such as case studies, empirical analyses, user satisfaction analyses, and others that can be employed independently or can help us complete the whole picture in conjunction with the previously mentioned methods. Since there is no universal approach to the evaluation of an investment in information technology and business intelligence, it is necessary to approach each case in a different way based on the specific circumstances and purpose of the evaluation. This paper presents a case study in which the evaluation of an investment in on-line analytical processing (‘OLAP’) technology in the company Melamin was made through an analysis of users\u27 opinions along with a strategic analysis based on identifying a cause-and-effect relationship between the benefits of OLAP technology and the company’s strategic goals

    Conceptualization of BIS Embeddedness Determinants

    Get PDF
Actual and effective use of Business Intelligence Systems (BIS) is considered as one of the main sources of competitive advantage for long-term survival of organizations and presents a link between the information provided by BIS and the business value of BIS. Acceptance of BIS should not be understood only as frequency and intensity of use, which was the focus of most previous research focused mostly on operational IS. Using BIS must become embedded in the business value generation process. In this study we develop a conceptual model of BIS embeddedness with a specific set of determinants identified using exploratory analysis based on semi-structured interviews among professionals in the field. Understanding acceptance and use of BIS presents a priority item for both researchers and practitioners in the field alike, as better understanding of these factors might improve the utilization and business value of BIS in organizations
