    Media, and specifically, social media, is playing an increasingly central role within American political discourse. This poster will attempt to explain the reasoning behind why social media is taking up so much space in our discourse and what that means for American democracy. In attempting to answer these questions, this poster will rely utilize the works 24/7: Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep and New Dark Age: Technology and the End of the Future by Jonathan Crary and James Bridle respectively. In addition to that fact, this poster will pay attention to the central point of Bridle’s book- technology is not a neutral force and should not be framed as one

    Search for high mass resonances in dilepton, dijet and diboson final states at the Tevatron

    No full text
    5 pagesInternational audienceAt hadron colliders, new massive particles can be searched for by the observation of high tranverse momentum objects forming high-mass resonances. Searches for additional massive vector bosons (W',Z'), Randall-Sundrum gravitons and sneutrinos in R-parity violating scenarios are performed in dilepton, dijets and diboson final states. The most recent results from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron are presented corresponding to integrated luminosities between 1 and 4~fb^{-1}

    The Uncertain Protection of Derivative Trade Secrets, 18 J. Marshall Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 241 (2019)

    This article discusses when a trade secret misappropriation claim can be premised on the acquisition, disclosure, or use of a product or method derived from a trade secret, rather than the acquisition, disclosure, or use of a trade secret itself. Although this question is likely to take on increasing importance as digital products that were made through the use of trade secrets and that can easily be copied become a larger part of everyday life, courts have rarely focused on it and have not come to any consensus. In this article, we survey the existing, inconsistent case law and analyze it in light of the applicable statutory text and relevant public policy considerations. The article provides some conclusions and takeaways for practitioners

    SUSY searches at the Tevatron

    The Tevatron collider has provided the CDF and D0 collaborations with large datasets as input to a rich program of physics beyond the standard model. The results presented here are from recent searches for SUSY particles using up to 6 fb-1 of data.Comment: Presented at the 2011 Hadron Collider Physics Symposium (HCP-2011) Paris, France, November 14-18, 2011, 4 pages, 7 figures; Hadron Collider Physics Symposium (HCP-2011), Paris : France (2011

    Godunov-type methods for conservation laws with a flux function discontinuous in space

    Get PDF
    Scalar conservation laws with a flux function discontinuous in space are approximated using a Godunov-type method for which a convergence theorem is proved. The case where the flux functions at the interface intersect is emphasized. A very simple formula is given for the interface flux. A numerical comparison between the Godunov numerical flux and the upstream mobility flux is presented for two-phase flow in porous media. A consequence of the convergence theorem is an existence theorem for the solution of the scalar conservation laws under consideration.Furthermore, for regular solutions, uniqueness has been shown

    Monotonization of flux, entropy and numerical schemes for conservation laws

    Get PDF
    Using the concept of monotonization, families of two step and k-step finite volume schemes for scalar hyperbolic conservation laws are constructed and analyzed. These families contain the FORCE scheme and give an alternative to the MUSTA scheme. These schemes can be extended to systems of conservation law

    Projeto de Graduação apresentado à Universidade Fernando Pessoa como parte dos requisitos para obtenção do grau de Licenciado em FisioterapiaObjetivo: Esta revisão bibliográfica pretende verificar os efeitos do treino dos músculos inspiratórios (TMI) em atletas ou desportistas, em várias modalidades. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma pesquisa na Pubmed, Web of Science e Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) em Dezembro de 2020 para identificar estudos randomizados controlados que avaliassem o TMI recorrendo a um dispositivo inspiratory pressure threshold loading entre grupo de intervenção (GI), grupo placebo (GP) e/ou grupo controlo (GC). Foram avaliados parâmetros de força muscular respiratória e função pulmonar. A qualidade metodológica foi avaliada através da escala de PEDro. Resultados: Dez artigos foram incluídos. Na análise da qualidade metodológica obtivemos uma média de 6.81 na escala de PEDro. Todos os artigos demonstraram um aumento significativo da pressão inspiratória máxima (PIM) após a aplicação de um protocolo de TMI. Conclusão: O TMI parece ter influencia positiva sobre a performance dos atletas e desportistas em qualquer modalidade desportiva.Objective: This bibliographic review aims to verify the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on athletes or sportsmen, in various modalities. Methods: A search was carried out on Pubmed, Web of Science and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) in December 2020 to identify randomized controlled trials that evaluated the inspiratory muscle training with inspiratory pressure threshold loading between the intervention group (IG), the placebo group (PG) and/or control group (CG). Parameters of respiratory muscle strength and lung function were assessed. Methodological quality was assessed using the PEDro scale. Results: Ten articles were included. In the analysis of methodological quality, we obtained an average score of 6.81 on the PEDro scale. All articles showed a significant increase in the maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) after applying an IMT protocol. Conclusions: IMT seems to have a positive influence on the performance of athletes and sportsmen in any sport.N/

    Effects of Experience and Workplace Culture in Human-Robot Team Interaction in Robotic Surgery: A Case Study

    Get PDF
    International audienceRobots are being used in the operating room to aid in surgery, prompting changes to workflow and adaptive behavior by the users. This case study presents a methodology for examining human-robot team interaction in a complex environment, along with the results of its application in a study of the effects of experience and workplace culture, for human-robot team interaction in the operating room. The analysis of verbal and non-verbal events in robotic surgery in two different surgical teams (one in the US and one in France) revealed differences in workflow, timeline, roles, and communication patterns as a function of experience and workplace culture. Longer preparation times and more verbal exchanges related to uncertainty in use of the robotic equipment were found for the French team, who also happened to be less experienced. This study offers an effective method for studying human-robot team interaction and has implications for the future design and training of teamwork with robotic systems in other complex work environments
