    Let VV be a left RR-module where RR is a (not necessarily commutative) ring with unit. The intersection graph \cG(V) of proper RR-submodules of VV is an undirected graph without loops and multiple edges defined as follows: the vertex set is the set of all proper RR-submodules of V,V, and there is an edge between two distinct vertices UU and WW if and only if U∩W≠0.U\cap W\neq 0. We study these graphs to relate the combinatorial properties of \cG(V) to the algebraic properties of the RR-module V.V. We study connectedness, domination, finiteness, coloring, and planarity for \cG (V). For instance, we find the domination number of \cG (V). We also find the chromatic number of \cG(V) in some cases. Furthermore, we study cycles in \cG(V), and complete subgraphs in \cG (V) determining the structure of VV for which \cG(V) is planar

    Josephson super-current in graphene-superconductor junction

    Within the tunneling Hamiltonian formulation for the eight-component spinors,the Josephson critical super-current has been calculated in a planar superconductor-normal graphene-superconductor junction. Coupling between superconductor regions and graphene is taken into account by a tunneling Hamiltonian which contains two types of tunneling, intra-valley and inter-valley tunneling. Within the present tunneling approach, we find that the contributions of two kinds of tunneling to the critical super-current, are completely separable. Therefore, it is possible to consider the effect of the inter-valley tunnelings in the critical super-current. The incorporation of these type of processes into the tunneling Hamiltonian, exposes a special feature of the graphene Josephson junctions. The effect of inter-valley tunneling appears in the length dependence plot of critical current in the form of oscillations. We also present the results for temperature dependence of critical super-current and compare with experimental results and other theoretical calculations

The sparse component analysis framework is a powerful method for achieving this. Sparse orthogonal transforms, in which only few transform coefficients differ significantly from zero, are developed; once the signal has been transformed, energy is apportioned from each transform coefficient to each estimated source, and, finally, the signal is reconstructed using the inverse transform. The overriding aim of this chapter is to demonstrate how this framework, as exemplified here by two different decomposition methods which adapt to the signal to represent it sparsely, can be used to solve different problems in different mixing scenarios. To address the instantaneous (neither delays nor echoes) and underdetermined (more sources than mixtures) mixing model, a lapped orthogonal transform is adapted to the signal by selecting a basis from a library of predetermined bases. This method is highly related to the windowing methods used in the MPEG audio coding framework. In considering the anechoic (delays but no echoes) and determined (equal number of sources and mixtures) mixing case, a greedy adaptive transform is used based on orthogonal basis functions that are learned from the observed data, instead of being selected from a predetermined library of bases. This is found to encode the signal characteristics, by introducing a feedback system between the bases and the observed data. Experiments on mixtures of speech and music signals demonstrate that these methods give good signal approximations and separation performance, and indicate promising directions for future research

    Nano-encapsulation of olive leaf phenolic compounds through WPC-pectin complexes and evaluating their release rate

    In this study, W/O micro-emulsions as primary emulsions and a complex of whey protein concentrate (WPC) and pectin in the external aqueous phase were used to produce W/O/W emulsions. Average droplet size of primary W/O emulsion and multiple emulsions stabilized by WPC or WPC-pectin after one day of production was 6.16, 675.7 and 1443 nm, respectively, which achieved to 22.97, 347.7 and, 1992.4 nm after 20 days storage without any sedimentation. The encapsulation efficiency of phenolic compounds for stabilized W/O/W emulsions with WPC and WPC-pectin were 93.34 and 96.64, respectively, which was decreased to 72.73 and 88.81 at 20th storage day. The lowest release of phenolics observed in multiple emulsions of WPC-pectin. These results suggest that nano-encapsulation of olive leaf extract within inner aqueous phase of W/O/W emulsions was successful, and there could be a high potential for the application of olive leaf extract in fortification of food products. © 2015 Elsevier B.V

    Storage stability of encapsulated barberry's anthocyanin and its application in jelly formulation

    The barberry (Berberis vulgaris) extract which is a rich source of anthocyanin was used for encapsulation with three different wall materials i.e., combination of gum Arabic and maltodextrin (GA+MD), combination of maltodextrin and gelatin (MD+GE) and maltodextrin (MD) by spray drying process. In this context, the storage stability of encapsulated pigments was investigated under four storage temperatures (4, 25, 35 and 42 °C), four relative humidities (20, 30, 40 and 50%) and light illumination until 90 days. All wall materials largely increased the half-life of the encapsulated pigments during storage compared with non-encapsulated anthocyanins. MD+GA showed the highest encapsulation efficiency, lower degradation rate in all temperatures and was found as the most effective wall material in stabilizing the pigments. The encapsulated pigments were utilized in coloring jelly powder as an alternative of synthetic color. Sensory evaluation were run to identify best encapsulated natural color concentration in jelly powder formulation according to acceptability by consumers. A jelly with added 7% encapsulated color had higher scores than the commercial jelly containing synthetic color for all the sensory attributes evaluated. Physicochemical properties of produced jelly including moisture content, hygroscopicity, acidity, ash content and texture were not significantly different with control sample while, syneresis and solubility of the samples prepared with encapsulated color was significantly reduced. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

    Microencapsulation optimization of natural anthocyanins with maltodextrin, gum Arabic and gelatin

    The barberry (Berberis vulgaris) extract which is a rich source of anthocyanins was used for spray drying encapsulation with three different wall materials, i.e., combination of maltodextrin and gum Arabic (MD + GA), maltodextrin and gelatin (MD + GE), and maltodextrin (MD). Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied for optimization of microencapsulation efficiency and physical properties of encapsulated powders considering wall material type as well as different ratios of core to wall materials as independent variables. Physical characteristics of spray-dried powders were investigated by further analyses of moisture content, hygroscopicity, degree of caking, solubility, bulk and absolute density, porosity, flowability and microstructural evaluation of encapsulated powders. Our results indicated that samples produced with MD + GA as wall materials represented the highest process efficiency and best powder quality; the optimum conditions of microencapsulation process for barberry anthocyanins were found to be the wall material content and anthocyanin load of 24.54 and 13.82, respectively. Under such conditions, the microencapsulation efficiency (ME) of anthocyanins could be as high as 92.83. © 2016 Elsevier B.V

    Non-western contexts: the invisible half

    Like many other disciplines within the broad area of social sciences (e.g., anthropology, gender studies, psychology, sociology, etc.), consumer research is also highly navigated by scholars from Western countries. This, however, does not mean, by any means, that consumer research is devoted to studying Western contexts only. As evident from the ever-increasing number of regional conferences (e.g., Asia-Pacific and Latin American conferences of the Association for Consumer Research) and non-Western students' enrolment in doctoral programs at Western universities, there are many more researchers (from non-Western countries) who are entering the field and enriching it by their colourful contributions. Yet, given the low number of publications on consumer research in non-Western contexts, it seems that our current knowledge in these societies has a long way to go to flourish. More specifically, and in the domain of consumption culture research, this gap is even further widened by the fact that the culture of consumption in such contexts is largely interpreted with reference to the 'grand narratives' of Western scholars (e.g., Foucault, Mafessoli, Bourdieu, Deleuze, Baudrillard, Nietzsche, Durkheim, Derrida, etc.). Therefore, from an ontological perspective, it seems that our existing knowledge about non-Western societies lies heavily on the 'theoretical structures' that are 'constructed' by Western philosophy as a set of ideas, beliefs, and practices (Said, 1978). As Belk (1995) reminds us, consumption culture always existed in all human societies. What makes contemporary societies different from that of our predecessors' is not the fact that consumption culture did not exist in those societies, but that consumption culture has become a prevailing feature in modern society (Slater, 1997; Lury, 1996; Fırat and Venkatesh, 1995; McCracken, 1988). Therefore, the nature and dynamics of consumption culture in each society should be studied not only against the sociocultural, historical, and economic background of a given context (Western or non-Western) but also with reference to the philosophical and epistemological viewpoints that analyse and interpret cultural practices of that society from within that culture. Addressing such issues, this paper discusses some of the key reasons for lack of theory development in the field from non-western contexts. The paper invites scholars in non-Western contexts to introduce the less articulated, and sometime hidden, body of knowledge from their own contexts into the field of marketing in general and consumer research in particular
