Draft Genome Sequence of anEnterobacterSpecies Associated with Illnesses and Powdered Infant Formula
This is the first report of the draft genome sequence of an Enterobacter species that may have been transmitted from powdered infant formula (PIF) to infants, resulting in illness. Enterobacter spp. are currently permitted in PIF, but the transmission of this strain indicates that the microbiological criteria for PIF may need revision
SUSY QCD Corrections to Higgs-b Production : Is the \Delta_b Approximation Accurate?
The associated production of a Higgs boson with a b quark is a discovery
channel for the lightest MSSM neutral Higgs boson. We consider the SUSY QCD
contributions from squarks and gluinos and discuss the decoupling properties of
these effects. A detailed comparison of our exact order(alpha_s) results with
those of a widely used effective Lagrangian approach, the \Delta_b
approximation, is presented. The \Delta_b approximation is shown to accurately
reproduce the exact one-loop SQCD result to within a few percent over a wide

Support Vector Machine classification of strong gravitational lenses
The imminent advent of very large-scale optical sky surveys, such as Euclid
and LSST, makes it important to find efficient ways of discovering rare objects
such as strong gravitational lens systems, where a background object is
multiply gravitationally imaged by a foreground mass. As well as finding the
lens systems, it is important to reject false positives due to intrinsic
structure in galaxies, and much work is in progress with machine learning
algorithms such as neural networks in order to achieve both these aims. We
present and discuss a Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm which makes use of
a Gabor filterbank in order to provide learning criteria for separation of
lenses and non-lenses, and demonstrate using blind challenges that under
certain circumstances it is a particularly efficient algorithm for rejecting
false positives. We compare the SVM engine with a large-scale human examination
of 100000 simulated lenses in a challenge dataset, and also apply the SVM
method to survey images from the Kilo-Degree Survey.Comment: Accepted by MNRA
On Retardation Effects in Space Charge Calculations Of High Current Electron Beams
Laser-plasma accelerators are expected to deliver electron bunches with high
space charge fields. Several recent publications have addressed the impact of
space charge effects on such bunches after the extraction into vacuum.
Artifacts due to the approximation of retardation effects are addressed, which
are typically either neglected or approximated. We discuss a much more
appropriate calculation for the case of laser wakefield acceleration with
negligible retardation artifacts due to the calculation performed in the mean
rest frame. This presented calculation approach also aims at a validation of
other simulation approaches
Gamma-ray lines and One-Loop Continuum from s-channel Dark Matter Annihilations
The era of indirect detection searches for dark matter has begun, with the
sensitivities of gamma-ray detectors now approaching the parameter space
relevant for weakly interacting massive particles. In particular, gamma ray
lines would be smoking gun signatures of dark matter annihilation, although
they are typically suppressed compared to the continuum. In this paper, we pay
particular attention to the 1-loop continuum generated together with the
gamma-ray lines and investigate under which conditions a dark matter model can
naturally lead to a line signal that is relatively enhanced. We study generic
classes of models in which DM is a fermion that annihilates through an
s-channel mediator which is either a vector or scalar and identify the coupling
and mass conditions under which large line signals occur. We focus on the
"forbidden channel mechanism" advocated a few years ago in the "Higgs in space"
scenario for which tree level annihilation is kinematically forbidden today.
Detailed calculations of all 1-loop annihilation channels are provided. We
single out very simple models with a large line over continuum ratio and
present general predictions for a large range of WIMP masses that are relevant
not only for Fermi and Hess II but also for the next generation of telescopes
such as CTA and Gamma-400. Constraints from the relic abundance, direct

The Expanded Very Large Array
In almost 30 years of operation, the Very Large Array (VLA) has proved to be
a remarkably flexible and productive radio telescope. However, the basic
capabilities of the VLA have changed little since it was designed. A major
expansion utilizing modern technology is currently underway to improve the
capabilities of the VLA by at least an order of magnitude in both sensitivity
and in frequency coverage. The primary elements of the Expanded Very Large
Array (EVLA) project include new or upgraded receivers for continuous frequency
coverage from 1 to 50 GHz, new local oscillator, intermediate frequency, and
wide bandwidth data transmission systems to carry signals with 16 GHz total
bandwidth from each antenna, and a new digital correlator with the capability
to process this bandwidth with an unprecedented number of frequency channels
for an imaging array. Also included are a new monitor and control system and
new software that will provide telescope ease of use. Scheduled for completion
in 2012, the EVLA will provide the world research community with a flexible,
powerful, general-purpose telescope to address current and future astronomical
