The author presents the problem of sociological education at universities and the problem of sociology graduates’ careers. The article reveals the author’s opinion of how young sociologists should be taught and their role in different institutions and workplaces. Gradvates should be prepared for different roles, which defines sociology as social theory directed towards practice. Sociologists should not be educated without a wide social context, because they are especially needed after EU enlargement. Graduate sociologists should work in different branches, but they are often undestimated or ignored by employers, who are afraid discovering something that should stay hidden. Sociologists are also often ignored by other social scholars. The author considers the possibility of repeating the research conducted in the 80s when graduate sociologists were asked about the usefulness of their studies in later professional careers

The problem of social integration of a Silesian village has its roots in history and specifically in this region. Silesia belonged to the territory which separated from the Polish state a long time ago. Historically speaking, Silesia was a part of the Piast Poland in the early Middle Ages. However, the regional division dating from the times of Boleslaus Wrymouth, the mutual antagonisms among his sons and later the hereditory division of the Silesian lands resulted in the supreme authority being exercised over this region of Poland; first, by the Polish kings for almost 400 years, next by the Czech sovereigns for about 100 years and then by the Austrian rulers for about 250 years. The Prussian rule began in 1763. Summing up, Silesia was under Prussian-German rule for 182 years. [fragm. tekstu

The mechanism of functioning culture in a town demands cultural patterns within which cultural life is well‑ordered and available. Sociological research and observation refute the existing opinions — the stereotypes about culture in a town as if the numerous cultural devices available to its inhabitants would testify to the high development of culture. The existence of cultural integration in a town is very important as it means that there are alternatives in the choice of cultural values and it is a higher stage in the development of culture. It assumes not only the accessibility and dissemination of culture but also to a higher and higher degree, the ability to choose cultural values which are the closest to a given man. The expression of cultural integration is the participation of town‑dwellers in culture which allows them to join actively not only to make use of culture but to create it at the same time. It should be noted that all fulfillment of potential abilities of the participation in culture is achieved in an individual act of expressing own interests and aspirations of town‑dwellers
