    A new approach to estimate the mix eficiency in data envelopment analysis

    Recently, in Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology, there are two type of efficiency measurement; radial and non-radial measure represented by the Charnes- Cooper-Rhodes (CCR) and the slack-based measure (SBM) model respectively. There are two characteristics to the target in oriented CCR model; the input minimization (output maximization) plus any further reduction (expansion) indicated by any nonzero slacks while the SBM deals directly with input or output slacks. Both models were important in order to estimate the mix efficiency of production. This study attempts to propose a single DEA model that cope together the characteristics of the CCR and the SBM model. The aim from this proposed model was to provide a new approach for estimating the mix efficiency. We implemented the new approach on a data set and attained almost similar result of the mix efficiency score compared to the standard method. The validity of our proposed model as a tool for efficiency measurement was proven by the numerical results. We observe that this new approach is computationally advantageous since it only needs to solve a single model instead using the previous approach

    Kaedah simpleks adalah kaedah yang paling termasyhur bagi menyelesaikan masalah pengaturcaraan linear. Kaedah ini menjelmakan masalah asal pengaturcaraan linear kepada bentuk kanonikal dengan bantuan pembolehubah tambahan, sama ada pembolehubah lalai, lebihan atau pembolehubah buatan. Dengan demikian, timbul satu pertanyaan. Mengapa tidak diselesaikan masalah pengaturcaraan linear dalam bentuk asal nya, yakni tanpa pembolehubah tambahan? Pertanyaan inilah yang memotivasikan kajian penyelidikan yang dibentangkan dalam dissertasi ini. Pada mu lanya pengubahsuaian dibuat terhadap pencarian penyeJesaian tersaur asas awal bagi kaedah simpleks tanpa penggunaan pembolehubah buatan tetapi masih mengekalkan penggunaan pembolehubah lalai/lebihan. Setelah diperoleh penyelesaian tersaur awal tersebut, pengiraan diteruskan dengan kaedah simpleks. Kemudiannya diteruskan dengan ide susur dan lantun dan seterusnya dikemukakan kaedah susur dan lantun yang menyelesaikan masalah pengaturcaraan linear seperti sedia tanpa penambahan sebarang pembolehubah, sama ada pembolehubah lalai/lebihan atau pembolehubah buatan. Kaedah Susur dan Lantun pada asasnya terhasil dari ide susur dan lantun dalam geometri ruang dimensi dua dan tiga. Namun begitu ianya dikembangkan untuk kesernua ruang dimensi. Kaedah ini menyusur sisi rantau tersaur dan melantun menerusi normal kepada fungsi matlamat untuk mencapai titik optimum. Proses pergerakan susur dan lantun, sililt berganti, mengikut keadaan tertentu akhirnya akan menemui titik yang optimum yakni penyelesaian optimum bagi masalah pengaturcaraan linear

    Imprecise DEA for setting scale efficient targets.

    This paper discusses the new aspects of setting scale efficient targets in DEA with imprecise data such as ordinal and interval. The achieved models are non-linear but it can be solved in linear Appa and Yue models with determining a set of exact data from imprecise input and output data. Numerical examples are provided to show the projection of DMUs to their most productive scale size under input minimization and output maximization criteria

    Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and multiple objective linear programming (MOLP) can be used as tools in management control and planning. The existing models have been established during the investigation of the relations between the output-oriented dual DEA model and the minimax reference point formulations, namely the super-ideal point model, the ideal point model and the shortest distance model. Through these models, the decision makers’ preferences are considered by interactive trade-off analysis procedures in multiple objective linear programming. These models only consider the output-oriented dual DEA model, which is a radial model that focuses more on output increase. In this paper, we improve those models to obtain models that address both inputs and outputs. Our main aim is to decrease total input consumption and increase total output production which results in solving one mathematical programming model instead of n models. Numerical illustration is provided to show some advantages of our method over the previous methods

    Call admission control (CAC) schemes play a critical role in providing quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees for various classes of traffic with diverse QoS requirements in IEEE 802.16e networks. The dynamic CAC and bandwidth reservation scheme is one of the current schemes that simultaneously provides efficient utilization of network resources and guarantees QoS for admitted connections. However, its admission criteria starved high and low service classes due to its linear adaptation policy to accommodate more users into the network under moderate-to-heavy traffic load conditions. Its adaptive threshold for handoff connections is adjusted based on the arrival of new and handoff connections, that results in a waste of resources when the new and handoff connection arrival rate occurs frequently. In this paper, a new CAC scheme for Mobile WiMAX networks is proposed to prevent starvation of service classes and enhance the efficient utilization of network resources. The scheme determines a new admission criteria based on a scheduling service class. In the admission criteria, bandwidth degradation policy is used to admit more users when there is no available bandwidth to admit a more users. The adaptive threshold has been introduced dynamically to adjust the quantity of reserved bandwidth for handoff connections based on the traffic intensity of handoff requests. In addition, an analytical model for the proposed scheme is also developed. Extensive simulation experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of our proposed approach. The simulation results illustrate that the proposed scheme significantly improves the network efficiency compared to other schemes in terms of accepting more connections into the network and assuring QoS for all service classes. The numerical results have shown similar performance to the simulation results

    An efficient battery lifetime aware power saving (EBLAPS) mechanism in IEEE 802.16e networks

    The IEEE 802.16e standard is an emergent broadband wireless access technology that added the mobility feature to the original standard. This feature made battery life of an operated mobile subscribe station (MSS) a bigger challenge because an MSS is powered by a rechargeable battery. The battery lifetime mechanism has to be created in order to prolong the battery-life of an MSS. The battery lifetime-aware power saving (BLAPS) scheme has been created to prolong the battery life of an MSS by adaptively adjusting the three-sleep parameters named idle threshold, initial sleep window, and final sleep window according to the residual energy and the traffic load. However, the scheme minimized the energy consumption of the MSS at the expense of the average response delay due to the effect of the remaining energy. It also used the standard sleep mode algorithm where the MSS frequently goes to listening mode when the traffic is low which leads to the high-energy consumption. In this paper, a new energy mechanism called efficient battery life-aware power saving scheme has been proposed to enhance the parameters of BLAPS. The three-sleep parameters in BLAPS mechanism are analytically enhanced according to the downlink stochastic traffic arrival pattern of an MSS. Moreover, an improved sleep mode control algorithm has been introduced to reduce the frequent transition to listening mode in case of low traffic. The simulation has been extensively used to evaluate the proposed scheme. The results have shown that the proposed scheme outperforms the BLAPS significantly in terms of both the average response delay and the average energy consumption

    Efficiency decomposition for two-process production systems with shared inputs in data envelopment analysis

    Zha and Liang [10] develop an approach for measuring the efficiency of two-process production systems where the inputs of the system can be freely allocated between two processes. They represent the overall efficiency of the system as a product form, to integrate the efficiencies of the two processes. A major restriction of Zha and Liang's model is its non-linearity. This paper develops a relational DEA model, taking into account the series relationship among two processes, to measure the overall efficiency of two-process production systems with shared inputs. The linearity of DEA models is maintained in the new model. Also, by introducing dummy process, the original production system can be transformed into a two-stage system where the first stage has a parallel structure. we utilize the relational model to propose a model that the overall efficiency score of the system is decomposed into the product of the efficiencies of the stages. This helps the decision makers identify the inefficient stages and make later improvements. A numerical example of US commercial banks is used to clarify the model
