Order batching and picking in a synchronized zone order picking system

    Get PDF
Order picking has been considered as one of the most critical operations in warehouse. In this study, we propose an analytical approximation model based on probability and queueing network theory to analyze order batching and picking area zoning on the mean order throughput time in a synchronized zone picker-to-part order picking system. The resulting model can be easily applied in the design and selection process of order picking systems. © 2011 IEEE.published_or_final_versionThe IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM 2011), Singapore, 6-9 December 2011. Statistical models for time sequences data mining

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present an adaptive modelling technique for studying past behaviors of objects and predicting the near future events. Our approach is to define a sliding window (of different window sizes) over a time sequence and build autoregression models from subsequences in different windows. The models are representations of past behaviors of the sequence objects. We can use the AR coefficients as features to index subsequences to facilitate the query of subsequences with similar behaviors. We can use a clustering algorithm to group time sequences on their similarity in the feature space. We can also use the AR models for prediction within different windows. Our experiments show that the adaptive model can give better prediction than non-adaptive models.published_or_final_versio

Efficient simulation and analysis of quantum ballistic transport in nanodevices with AWE

    Get PDF
Quantum-mechanical modeling of ballistic transport in nanodevices usually requires solving the Schrdinger equation at multiple energy points within an energy band. To speed up the simulation and analysis, the asymptotic waveform evaluation is introduced in this paper. Using this method, the wave function is only rigorously solved at several sampled energy points, whereas those at other energies are computed through Pad approximation. This allows us to obtain the physical quantities over the whole energy band with very little computational cost. In addition, the accuracy is controllable by a complex frequency hopping algorithm. The validity and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated by detailed study of several multigate silicon nano-MOSFETs. © 2006 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Finite element based generalized impedance boundary condition for complicated em calculation

    Get PDF
In this paper, a finite element based generalized impedance boundary condition (FEM-GIBC) is proposed to solve complicated electromagnetic (EM) problems. Complex structures with arbitrary inhomogeneity and shapes are modeled with the finite element method, and their scattering contributions are transformed to generalized impedance conditions on their boundaries. For each sub-domain, a special GIBC can be established and it is only related to the structures in this domain. Hence, for finite periodic structures, a representative GIBC can be formulated at the boundary of a unit cell. After the GIBC at each boundary is established, the electromagnetic coupling between each impedance boundary can be calculated by the boundary integral equations (BIE) and accelerated with the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). © 2011 IEEE.published_or_final_versionThe 2011 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI), Spokane, WA., 3-8 July 2011. Improved blog clustering through automated weighting of text blocks

    Get PDF
In this paper, a new clustering algorithm is proposed for blog data clustering. Considering the structure information of text blocks in blog data, we group the features of blog data into three groups and extend the k-means clustering algorithm to automatically calculate a weight for each feature group in the clustering process. We introduce a new objective function with group weight variables and present the Lagrangian method to derive the formula to calculate the group weights. This formula is added as a new step in the standard k-means iterative clustering process to automatically compute the group weights according to the distribution of features. This new process guarantees the convergency of the clustering process to a local optimal solution. The experimental results have shown that this new algorithm performed better than k-means without group feature weighting on different blog data sets.published_or_final_versio

Hole mobility model for Si double-gate junctionless transistors

    Get PDF
In this work, a physics based model is developed to calculate the hole mobility of ultra-thin-body double-gate junctionless transistors. Six-band k · p Schrodinger equation and ¨ Poisson equation are solved self-consistently. The obtained wavefunctions and energies are stored in look-up tables. Hole mobility can be derived using the Kubo-Greenwood formula accounting for impurity, acoustic and optical phonon, and surface roughness scattering. Initial benchmark results are shown

Generation and Culture of Blood Outgrowth Endothelial Cells from Human Peripheral Blood.

Historically, the limited availability of primary endothelial cells from patients with vascular disorders has hindered the study of the molecular mechanisms underlying endothelial dysfunction in these individuals. However, the recent identification of blood outgrowth endothelial cells (BOECs), generated from circulating endothelial progenitors in adult peripheral blood, may circumvent this limitation by offering an endothelial-like, primary cell surrogate for patient-derived endothelial cells. Beyond their value to understanding endothelial biology and disease modeling, BOECs have potential uses in endothelial cell transplantation therapies. They are also a suitable cellular substrate for the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) via nuclear reprogramming, offering a number of advantages over other cell types. We describe a method for the reliable generation, culture and characterization of BOECs from adult peripheral blood for use in these and other applications. This approach (i) allows for the generation of patient-specific endothelial cells from a relatively small volume of adult peripheral blood and (ii) produces cells that are highly similar to primary endothelial cells in morphology, cell signaling and gene expression

The E3 ubiquitin ligase WWP2 regulates pro-fibrogenic monocyte infiltration and activity in heart fibrosis

Non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) can cause left ventricular dysfunction through interstitial fibrosis, which corresponds to the failure of cardiac tissue remodeling. Recent evidence implicates monocytes/macrophages in the etiopathology of cardiac fibrosis, but giving their heterogeneity and the antagonizing roles of macrophage subtypes in fibrosis, targeting these cells has been challenging. Here we focus on WWP2, an E3 ubiquitin ligase that acts as a positive genetic regulator of human and murine cardiac fibrosis, and show that myeloid specific deletion of WWP2 reduces cardiac fibrosis in hypertension-induced NICM. By using single cell RNA sequencing analysis of immune cells in the same model, we establish the functional heterogeneity of macrophages and define an early pro-fibrogenic phase of NICM that is driven by Ccl5-expressing Ly6chigh monocytes. Among cardiac macrophage subtypes, WWP2 dysfunction primarily affects Ly6chigh monocytes via modulating Ccl5, and consequentially macrophage infiltration and activation, which contributes to reduced myofibroblast trans-differentiation. WWP2 interacts with transcription factor IRF7, promoting its non-degradative mono-ubiquitination, nuclear translocation and transcriptional activity, leading to upregulation of Ccl5 at transcriptional level. We identify a pro-fibrogenic macrophage subtype in non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, and demonstrate that WWP2 is a key regulator of IRF7-mediated Ccl5/Ly6chigh monocyte axis in heart fibrosis

    Resonances in J/ψϕπ+πJ/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K\phi K^+K^-

    A partial wave analysis is presented of J/ψϕπ+πJ/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K\phi K^+K^- from a sample of 58M J/ψJ/\psi events in the BES II detector. The f0(980)f_0(980) is observed clearly in both sets of data, and parameters of the Flatt\' e formula are determined accurately: M=965±8M = 965 \pm 8 (stat) ±6\pm 6 (syst) MeV/c2^2, g1=165±10±15g_1 = 165 \pm 10 \pm 15 MeV/c2^2, g2/g1=4.21±0.25±0.21g_2/g_1 = 4.21 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.21. The ϕππ\phi \pi \pi data also exhibit a strong ππ\pi \pi peak centred at M=1335M = 1335 MeV/c2^2. It may be fitted with f2(1270)f_2(1270) and a dominant 0+0^+ signal made from f0(1370)f_0(1370) interfering with a smaller f0(1500)f_0(1500) component. There is evidence that the f0(1370)f_0(1370) signal is resonant, from interference with f2(1270)f_2(1270). There is also a state in ππ\pi \pi with M=179030+40M = 1790 ^{+40}_{-30} MeV/c2^2 and Γ=27030+60\Gamma = 270 ^{+60}_{-30} MeV/c2^2; spin 0 is preferred over spin 2. This state, f0(1790)f_0(1790), is distinct from f0(1710)f_0(1710). The ϕKKˉ\phi K\bar K data contain a strong peak due to f2(1525)f_2'(1525). A shoulder on its upper side may be fitted by interference between f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710).Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Submitted to Phys. Lett.
