Problems Encountered in an Ovine Practice

    Get PDF
With the increase in the number of farm flocks, sheep have assumed an ever increasing role in veterinary practice. It has been said, and justly so, that a sheep is a difficult animal to treat. However, with the improvement in vaccines and pharmaceuticals, excellent results may be obtained if the original diagnosis is correct. With sheep, perhaps more than any other animal, a correct diagnosis is essential to successful treatment. A mistaken diagnosis and subsequent erroneous treatment may be disastrous

    Get PDF
This paper describes the requirements for a Fuzzy Logic Controller for the physiologic administration of hormones by means of a FDA-approved surgically implantable infusion pump. Results of a LabVIEW computer simulation for the administration of insulin for diabetic adult patients as well as human growth hormone for pediatric patients are presented. A VHS video tape of the simulation in action has been prepared and is available for viewing

Extended quantum conditional entropy and quantum uncertainty inequalities

    Get PDF
Quantum states can be subjected to classical measurements, whose incompatibility, or uncertainty, can be quantified by a comparison of certain entropies. There is a long history of such entropy inequalities between position and momentum. Recently these inequalities have been generalized to the tensor product of several Hilbert spaces and we show here how their derivations can be shortened to a few lines and how they can be generalized. All the recently derived uncertainty relations utilize the strong subadditivity (SSA) theorem; our contribution relies on directly utilizing the proof technique of the original derivation of SSA.Comment: 4 page

Classification of irreps and invariants of the N-extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

We present an algorithmic classification of the irreps of the NN-extended one-dimensional supersymmetry algebra linearly realized on a finite number of fields. Our work is based on the 1-to-1 \cite{pt} correspondence between Weyl-type Clifford algebras (whose irreps are fully classified) and classes of irreps of the NN-extended 1D supersymmetry. The complete classification of irreps is presented up to N≤10N\leq 10. The fields of an irrep are accommodated in ll different spin states. N=10 is the minimal value admitting length l>4l>4 irreps. The classification of length-4 irreps of the N=12 and {\em real} N=11 extended supersymmetries is also explicitly presented.\par Tensoring irreps allows us to systematically construct manifestly (NN-extended) supersymmetric multi-linear invariants {\em without} introducing a superspace formalism. Multi-linear invariants can be constructed both for {\em unconstrained} and {\em multi-linearly constrained} fields. A whole class of off-shell invariant actions are produced in association with each irreducible representation. The explicit example of the N=8 off-shell action of the (1,8,7)(1,8,7) multiplet is presented.\par Tensoring zero-energy irreps leads us to the notion of the {\em fusion algebra} of the 1D NN-extended supersymmetric vacua.Comment: Final version to appear in JHEP. 52 pages. The part with the complete classification of irreps (and the explicit presentation of length-4 irreps of N=9,10,11,12 and N=10 length-5 irreps) is unchanged. An extra section has been added with an entire class of off-shell invariant actions for arbitrary values N of the 1D extended supersymmetry. A non-trivial N=8 off-shell action for the (1,8,7) multiplet has been constructed as an example. It is obtained in terms of the octonionic structure constant

Enantiopure and racemic radical-cation salts of B(malate)2−anions with BEDT-TTF

    Get PDF
We have synthesized the first examples of radical-cation salts of BEDT-TTF with chiral borate anions, [B(malate)2]−, prepared from either enantiopure or racemic bidentate malate ligands. In the former case only one of two diastereoisomers of the borate anion is incorporated, while for the hydrated racemic salt one racemic pair of borate anions containing a R and a S malate ligand is incorporated. Their conducting and magnetic properties are reported. The tight-binding band calculation indicates that the chiral salt has an effective half-filled flat band, which is likely to be caused by the chiral structural feature

New semiconducting radical-cation salts of chiral bis(2-hydroxylpropylthio)ethylenedithio TTF

    Get PDF
Electrocrystallisations of the chiral donor molecule S,S-bis(2-hydroxylpropylthio)ethylenedithiotetrathiafulvalene have produced a series of 1 : 1 semiconducting radical-cation salts with anions bromide, chloride, perchlorate and hexafluorophosphate. The flexibility and hydrogen bonding ability of the donor's chiral side chains lead to three quite different packing arrangements of donor cation pairs. Conductivity is maintained despite significant separations of donor cation pairs in some cases

Superconformal Multi-Black Hole Moduli Spaces in Four Dimensions

Quantum mechanics on the moduli space of N supersymmetric Reissner-Nordstrom black holes is shown to admit 4 supersymmetries using an unconventional supermultiplet which contains 3N bosons and 4N fermions. A near-horizon limit is found in which the quantum mechanics of widely separated black holes decouples from that of strongly-interacting, near-coincident black holes. This near-horizon theory is shown to have an enhanced D(2,1;0) superconformal symmetry. The bosonic symmetries are SL(2,R) conformal symmetry and SU(2)xSU(2) R-symmetry arising from spatial rotations and the R-symmetry of N=2 supergravity.Comment: 23 pages, harvmac. v2: many typos fixe
